Had to wait 45 min to be seated. Very busy and no place to wait. Got seated at table by door - very cold & uncomfortable. Also by a very noisy table with 10 people. Food okay but nothing special. Will not go back.
I’ve been to Becco many times and have recommended the restaurant to many people. Last nights dining experience was subpar. The food and wine were spectacular, however the service was not up to standard. We ordered the pasta special, which is always my favorite. We waited approximately an hour to receive our appetizers. We were so hungry we ate the entire bread basket while waiting for our meal to begin. We waited an additional 30 mins between appetizers and main meal. We watched as servers stood on the side of the dining room holding hot pans of pasta that they couldn’t serve because we had no plates. When we finally got our plates, we only received 2 of the 3 pasta specials. Another server came to clear our plates and we had to inform him that we weren’t finished with our meal, as we were still waiting to try the 3rd pasta sample. The restaurant did send us a dessert to compensate for the poor experience, but I must admit I was very disappointed in the entire experience. Unfortunately, I will reconsider my restaurant choice next time.
Great place to grab a reasonably priced dinner after a show. The night we went it was extremely busy and loud. The waiter actually apologized for all of the noise. The meals were delicious as well as the wines. There is a wine menu for bottles that all cost $33.00, and ours was delicious.
I would like to visit again when it is not so busy and crowded. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
Service was horrible. Waited 30 minutes for a drink order. Had to get manager involved who told us to be patient.
In NY with my 27 year old daughter. Parents told me to go here. Made reservation for Sunday 2/27 at 6:45. Got there place was packed. No place to wait, people all around waiting. Finally sat down and we order the pasta special. UNLIMITED pasta. Waiter took order and drinks and brought them fairly timely. After that we really never saw him again. Someone else came to clear the table and I said I wanted more pasta. We waited and waited. No waiter. When he finally showed I told him to just give me the tab. Really disappointing experience. Pasta was ok but for $26 how good should pasta be? I would think exceptional. Not so. Maybe another night to come is better but I would advise to stay away Sunday at 6:45. This place is also loud so don't come for quiet conversation.
Food was very good. $33 bottles of wine was great. Service was very slow had to ask multiple times for another bottle of wine... not the best NYC experience we’ve had.
Excellent service, delicious food, especially the antipasto and all you can eat pasta. The staff was friendly and helpful. The wine list was extensive, including several affordable wines. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Awesome as usual, very cramped and difficult to move around but I understand the space is limited in that area and maximizing that space is paramount. Terrific restaurant!!!!
Delicious swordfish and spaghetti squash for me. I cannot eat pasta so this was a nice option. Very crowded and loud but good service and I did not feel rushed like I had during my last visit.
It was fair, at best. The pasta served with he $29 chefs pasta special was very ordinary, at best. It was more loud and crowded than convivial. For a cheaper NY meal, it was fair. I won’t be returning.
Becco is a tasty, well-oiled machine in the theatre district. Pros- if you have a show time, they will get you out the door on time. The menu is concise but with great options. Cons- it is TIGHT space wise. Like, you have to move your table to get to the other chair. Which means it is also loud. For a tourist this may be a bit surprising.
The 3 pastas special didn't sound or look all that amazing (we did not try this). We had the mussels to start which were perfect. I had the hangar steak with polenta and roasted root vegetables which again was a delicious dish. Cannolis were terribly underwhelming, which was a big letdown. $33 for a bottle of wine was a steal and left us in a good mood. Overall a solid choice and I would go back.
My concern was that some tables are difficult to get for the customer and the people bring the food especially servers with the pasta frying pans.
Overall loved the restaurant, food, service, atmosphere. Tables are on top of each other - that was the only negative.
Went for a Valentine dinner and a play. We did have an early dinner which helped because when we left we had a hard time getting out of the restaurant. I had the pasta special , the artichoke ravioli was amazing, so flavorful, the past it self tasted delicate, the bolengise was again so flavorful, not too much but not too little. My husband had the veal piccata and said this was one of the best veal dishes he has ever had.. we will defiantly be back with my son and parents
Great food at a great price. Pretty restaurant. We have always had excellent service but this time not so attentive. Maybe because we sat in the front room and not the back where we usually sit. Would def go back and recommend the food!
Interesting menu and wine list. Very good food. Well located for a pre-theatre meal.
The best post-show restaurant in NYC. I need to open a menu one day as I always just order the symphonie of pasta! Also, always start with the polpette - you will be transported to food Heaven! It’s close quarters on the table-seating but don’t worry as your neighbor always seems to be in a fun, social mood as well.
Server was excellent, Ruby. Food was a close second. We’ll be back for after theatre dining!
Fantastic food and service! Everyone was really nice and super friendly. The reservations were on time we didn’t have to wait long. Bar is cute to grab a cocktail.
They seem to have overbooked a bit, with no real place to wait with 2 teens. Once we sat down we had great good and service!
Wonderful food. Fabulous hanger steak perfectly prepared. Delightful professional service.
A bit noisy
The food was okay. There's a $33 per bottle wine list that offers a nice selection of pizza wine. We ended up choosing one of it Bastianich's, the bouquet and taste of wine was just okay. The place was very crowded. Hey, it was Saturday night! I'd had informed the restaurant a couple of days before that it was a significant anniversary for us but zero attention paid to it. Our server was unaware that we were his table for the first 15 minutes.
This is one of our favorite haunts in NYC. Unfortunately, we went on an "off" Saturday night. Inattentive and smug waiter that triggered a pattern of waving down servers to refill water and requests for grated cheese, etc. The food was poor. Watery pasta for their signature dishes, spicy dishes removing the spice over the past three years and simply becoming ordinary fare. We chose to celebrate at Becco based on our history and sentimental dinners with friends and family from near and far. We came away feeling that the present will never meet the the food, joy and experience of years gone by.
Becco was excellent as usual-food was fantastic, service very helpful & friendly and the
front-of house people very pleasant-it is a high volume atmosphere but very warm & inviting!
Always look forward to going back!
I understand this was partly our fault for making reservations at a time when a lot of theatre go-ers were also eating; however, they HAVE to be able to do a better job of managing reservations for flow of people. I have never felt so crammed into a space while waiting for my table. It was downright miserable with people piled on top of each other waiting. And then when the hostess finally led us to our table, we had to go through the bar and squeeze through massive crowds of people. The worst part was the entire time we were at the restaurant, there was a line of at least 8 people for the restroom. The server told me it would be that way for at least the next hour. the tables were so close the only time I could get out to try the restroom was when the people on either side of us left. No way to have a conversation that everyone wouldn't hear. The food was very good and my rating on service reflects the overall service of the restaurant - our actual server was very good. Oh - and they also charged me $3.50 EACH for 3 diet cokes, which I think is a bit ridiculous.
Had to ask for bread. Also, had to ask for the third pasta to be served of the three pasta dinner.
Okay food, but we were seated 20 minutes past our reservation. There is not enough space for the many people waiting for tables, so we felt very much in the way during our long wait. Once seated, we found the tables in the restaurant are packed in very tightly. The pasta was okay but not spectacular. It was a good value and a good location if seeing a Broadway show, but the logistics detracted from the overall experience.
Service is wonderful and the staff is always considerate of your theatre plans. Food is out of this world!!!!
my daughter and i ate upstairs in the back room and it was the first time we we up there. We had a great time and a great meal. We love Becco's.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Becco. The food was delicious, the drinks were wonderful and the service was professional. We will definitely go back!
BECCO was a wonderful spot for lunch before the theater; great location on restaurant row! The pasta was very good, especially the meat sauce, and plentiful. We were seated at our reservation time. The bread selection was terrific with a delicious spread.
All of the entrees looked great and my husband enjoyed the calves liver! We will go back when we are in New York again!
We ate at the bar which is always our preference if it’s available. The bartenders were both knowledgeable and attentive. The all you can eat raviolis are a really great deal and were delicious. Wine selection was ok. The osso bucco wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was good and presentation was good. Taste was excellent but it wasn’t as tender as I’d like. When the bill came it was lower than expected. Overall it was a very good experience for the cost and we would go back.
Becco has been a long time favorite of mine since it's first opened! I'm still bringing first timers for the experience of the Pasta Special...and all are delighted by the frying pans coming right off the stove and out of the kitchen directly to their plate! The 3 selections were delicious as always(fresh tomato sauce with homemade pasta, linguini with white clam sauce and artichoke ravioli). Included in the price is a choice of antipasto or Caesar salad and our group chose a combination of both for all to sample. Delicious as well!
If you don't need to catch a Broadway show, anytime after 8pm is the perfect time to go as the place empties out a bit and the atmosphere is more calm and intimate. Becco used to be the best kept secret in town but because of fans desire to share with friends the word has been out for quite some time! Highly recommend!
My friends and I enjoyed the food that we ordered. The service was superb. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends.
always great to go to Becco when we go to the city. Our go to place for the last 20 years. Great $33. wine list to go with the great food . No other place like it in NYC.
Food and service were fabulous. Very loud and bustling spot.
Ate at Becco on a Friday night before an 8pm play. Reservation at 6:15, arrived at 6:10 and were seated right away. Man is this place cramped... They took us all the way to the back of the restaurant and sat us right next to the service hallway, so there was a constant stream of waiters and waitresses passing by. They pack you in like sardines here. The waiters were good, we had a host/manager that interacted with us, asking us first if we were going to see a play, then giving us a colorful run down of the specials for the night.
My Mother got the sinfonia di pasta special (three of the chefs offerings) which she was disappointed with. Said they were all too watery, and was disappointed the linguine with clams had very few clams if any.
Arancini appetizer was outright terrible. Three of us at the table all felt this way.
Carpaccio was as expected - heavy lemon which took away from the beef
The special we ordered - short rib in wine reduction was great I thought. Sauce was right on, beef was tender and delicious.
Pollo al Limone was equally good - a bit small on the portion, but the sauce was great as was the chicken. I had a side of the one pasta of the day (Red sauce and basil) which I will say was slightly watery as well.
All in all, it wasn't the worst, wasn't the best. Reasonably-ish priced (my mother scoffed at the prices, but lets remember we're in midtown manhattan on restaurant row...) I was OK with the prices.
Being so tightly packed in was a definite detriment to their score, but it was a pretty good meal, and they got us in and out Just when we needed to be, so props to Becco for that. Can't be easy serving all those people in a timely fashion
A great place to go in the theatre district with excellent service, attractive decor, and very good food. Two of us had
steak which they said was outstanding. I had a very good carpaccio but was a bit disappointed in my mozzarella appetizer where there only tiny slices. Other than that, it was great. Our 2 guests arrived 45 minutes late but our waiter
was able to get is out in 40 minutes.
My second time here! Can’t wait for my next time.SUPERB!!
I have eaten at this restaurant twice and the experience has been the same both times: tremendous! The food is detectable, the service is efficient, and memories lasting! A definite must!
