Beauty & Essex- New York
The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.
The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Server took HOURS to bring the card back after charging the check.
Dessert was wonderful although it was impossible to eat. It was the smores one and we had to literally tear it up with hands amd a knife. Taste was good tho.
Food was awesome tho.
Overall it was great, but we had to wait 45 minutes for our 9:15 reservation and the hostess was unhelpful and didn’t seem to care that although we had a reservation that we could be waiting for up to an hour.
Meatballs were insanely good. Had an amazing waiter who made great recommendations. Loved the cocktails and general atmosphere was second to none. Can’t wait for one to open in London so we can go back. Pawn shop entrance is a nice touch, as was the GIF booth!
Great experience. The food was amazing and our waiter was always around even the restaurant was packed.
B&E made our anniversary dinner so special! The restaurant is a fun atmosphere and the food was amazing (as usual). Always a treat! ❤️ newcomers: Try the kale and apple salad!
Tried Beauty and Essex because Stanton Social closed. Missed a lot of the dishes from Social. Wish they would add a few.
Great food, service and ambiance. If you want a NYC experience go here. Food is mostly a sharing menu with a few main course type dishes. We shared the beef Wellington which was divine. Any place that offers you a glass of champagne in The ladies room is pretty terrific.
Server and host were very rude. Business dinner did not go well.
Great food and ambience
Overall very good. The food was excellent and timely. Great service but the A/C was way too cold. We had to ask twice to have it turned off.
Fine dining at its BEST!!!!
I have been dining at Beauty & Essex since it opened in 2010. We actually made a reservation the first month they opened. I was wowed then and wowed now, on my 30th Wedding Anniversary which my husband and I celebrated on Sunday, September 8th.
One would think after dining there all these years I wouldn’t be impressed anymore but actually I was surprised how it’s beauty still takes my breath away. When that Door opens your transported to the Fantasy of a different place and era. The ambiance is exquisite and the food gets better and better every time I come. How is that possible? Only with a chef like Chris Santos!!! Nothing ever leaves his kitchen without perfection.
I ordered the bone marrow with toast, yum!!!
My husband ordered the chicken meat balls with sheep ricotta and truffle and said it was better than ever!
The Beef Wellington was as tender as butter and the flavor divine. The side of puréed potatoes with bacon was seasoned with a delicate touch of heat that was DELICIOUS!!!! I definitely want to try and duplicate that recipe at home.
So if you are looking for Great Food, Beautiful Ambiance and Impeccable Service Beauty & Essex should be your next reservation!!!
The bartender, Paul, was great! He was very well versed in his cocktail portfolio and able to customize drinks based on our descriptions. The vibe was hot and upstairs on Sunday there is a second brunch “party” going on. We arrived a tad early for our 6pm reservation; therefore, we were able to enjoy the end of the brunch party.
The food was amazing. We ordered the lobster Mac & cheese and the kale salad as an appetizer. We shared the beef Wellington for our main dish with asparagus. The asparagus was the only thing we ordered that was average. Everything else exceeded our expectations.
It was a really unique experience!
Always have a great meal and a great experience here
Brilliant brunch. We had six dishes between three. All very tasty, particular compliments going to the empanadas and avocado toast (yes, really!). Decor and vibe make for a stylishly different and very chilled vibe (although my only complaint is that the air-con was a bit extreme so it was very chilled in both senses of the word). Overall, highly recommended.
Food was heavenly as always
A really great expirience! Beautiful place, great music and armosphere!
Really hip place but so loud and you can’t hear yourself talk plus they ignore you
Though with a booking, we still had to wait. Everything else was great
Enjoyable experience. Ambiance was unusual and the food was ok.
The food is nothing to write home about. It's all about the name and the ambiance. The service was excellent. Save your money.
Fun place with great food - but too much noice
Beauty & Essex is tucked away on a side street on Lower East Side. Its really interesting how you enter through a pawn shop.
We were seated on the lower level near the bar and a room of empty tables that was scheduled for a private function later that evening. It was really dark which didnt make things easy to read the menu. Sure glad I had flashlight on my cell phone.
Seating hostess was a bit snooty, making sure we knew that we were on a time limit and they would need our table in 90 minutes. Not exactly how you want to be greeted when youve heard great reviews.
The food was served tapas style and did not disappoint. The burger might have been one of the best I’ve ever eaten!
Was glad to go here but not sure Id make effort to eat here in the future.
Seated upstairs and it was too noisy
Our server was disinterested and seemed to be rushing us out. And after ordering another bottle of wine he seemed annoyed (even though we're spending more money?) and then just ignored us and we had to wait a long time for him to come back with the check.
Otherwise a great experience! The food and ambiance is always on point.
Waitress was wonderful. Man at next table was very loud.
This place is quite overhyped. The best thing about the place is the staircase.
My whole experience wasn’t good, it was outstanding! All of the menu items suggested to us were great. The vibe was cool. My friend and I had an amazing time. I will definitely return and I highly recommend.
Stunning decor and marvelous food. The Grilled Cheese, Bacon and Tomato Soup dumplings were my favorite! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to return!
We went for our anniversary and they treated us like royalty from the beginning- wishing us a happy anniversary, giving us each a glass of champagne and a special dessert cupcake.
What incredible service all around! Love the food, presentation and quality. The place has a great vibe without snobbery. Classy, trendy, artsy, all in.
Thank you so much for the great experience!
We love this place...... we visit every time in NY....
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! Gorgeous atmosphere
Great ambiance and very friendly service. The food is delicious and the Hanger Steak and Eggs is filling after a starter. Highly recommended.
Too loud!! And out of the bulogi ribeye tacos!!
It was a dope experience. Food could be better.
The only “downside” was the tight quarters of some of the seating. When the staff or people walked by, they had to squeeze in between my table and the table behind me, bumping both seats.
The food was great
The drinks amazing
The music was perfect
And the upstairs lounge was a added bonus
Will most certainly be back again and visit the other locations.
Loved everything about this restaurant from the food, to drinks, ambiance, and music.
Very loud Food very good Fries delicious Grilled cheese and tomato soup fish tacos favorite! Drinks watered down tasted good though!! Loved the champagne in the ladies room! Lots of fun! Lydia the attendant very kind!
Awesome experience, a must for New Yorkers and visitors. The food was excellent, their steak was one of the best I've ever had, Lobster mac and cheese was loaded with lobster chunks, Peruvian chicken was cooked to perfection. Ambiance was very chic and cool , what you would expect from NYC.
Always a delight to dine at Beauty & Essex! Food is to die for!
