Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boombox, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course. Chef Chris Santos was one of the pioneers of the small, share plate dining trend that has swept the nation, and with the Beauty & Essex menu, he once again has created waves on the food scene.

Outstanding dinner! What a fun unique space! I think our relatives were frightened and confused walking into the store but that ended the minute the door to the back was opened! Such a gorgeous space. We love trying new things and sharing dishes so we tasted many different items and every single recommendation fro our waiter was spot on! So happy we went here for my son's graduation celebration dinner and we will definitely be back!!!

What a super cool spot. Enter through an elegant gift shop where all the guitars on the walls and everything is for sale and come to a downstairs bar lobby before climbing a staircase to a fun quintessentially New York dining room. The server was very good, though it took a moment for him to warm up—I suppose this is the New York way. We had several mouth watering dishes highlighted by the grilled cheese bites and, seared scallops and ribeye. Everything was exceptional. It was busy but never felt crowded. For four of us with several adult beverages we spent about $100/person so it’s definitely an experience.
