Beauty & Essex- New York
The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.
The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

The space is crazy cool....cool storefront with wild scene once you get through the door...hostess was super cool-waitress was amazingly attentive and friendly-and the food superb. This concept makes smaller sharing dishes make perfect sense-I had sushi, Italian and Mexican at one sitting. Very happy with my experience - going to try it in LA!
I no longer respect Chris Santos' Chopped reviews. when he talks about something being under seasoned. He either expects he is catering to the under 30 crowd or he has a very poor sense of taste. I got more salt intake in this one meal that I should have in a month. The place is pretentious without cause. Coat check guy couldn't even keep track of my hat. I am not enamored of the beautiful people supper club crowd which this tried to be. Overrated and overpriced
Great good, great vibe!
I heard of Beauty and Essex years ago and finally found myself here this weekend. We dined earlier in the evening and the service was prompt and unobtrusive, food was amazing and well portioned and the environment was everything i hoped it would be. The pot de creme was the only thing that was lacking but the beef wellington....oh my....the beef wellington...ORGASMIC! Would 100% dine again and recommend!
The food was delicious. The atmosphere was calm yet sophisticated. Liked it a lot. The women’s bathroom is beautiful
The food was as fabulous as last time. We loved the vegan chilaquiles, char sui meatballs, and chocolate avocado mousse. HOWEVER despite making the reservation weeks in advance, we had to wait THIRTY minutes to be seated. They didn't offer much of an explanation and just told us we could sit and wait "a few minutes" in the bar area. Well, a few minutes turned into thirty with no offer of a free drink/discount/etc which would typically be offered at any other restaurant.
Waited for a table despite creating and confirming a reservation. It was cold inside the restaurant. Seating was too close to enjoy comfort. Although the food was good, the experience took away from it. Overall it fell short of the hype.
We got seated right away which was great and the food was delicious :)
Unbelievable!! A must when visiting the city!
It was amazing . Would definitely go there again . Me and my girl had such a good time .
Great location, food, service and atmosphere. Menu amazing!!
Such a good experience! Overall, the food and the ambiance were great! Would definitely be returning!
Great ambiance and great service. The food was excellent! We had the grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings, rib eye tacos and the sea bass. For dessert, we had the donuts and they were delicious! Freshly made and served warm. Great place. I will definitely go again!
Excellent venue for Valentine’s Day date
My ex and I recently broke up and we’re trying to rekindle our relationship. He accused me of an encounter which clearly my receipts didn’t have information on. So instead it turned into a farewell dinner. The best farewell dinner in style. Wine service and waiter was amazing! All staff from the entrance until my departure made an overall great experience. The food is delicious and not as pricy as expected. I’ll definitely dine here again with someone new.
Great food, great environment for any occasion. Good service.
It was such a great experience from arriving at the establishment which looks like a pawn shop and then you enter the dining area which is beautiful. Now the staff are all very nice and attentive. Then comes the drinks and food and I am a total foodie and this place really does it well. Every plate we chose the presentation was on point and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend for any occasion date, birthday or just dinner it was fantastic and there is a little secret for the ladies in the bathroom that really added something special 🤫
I have been to Beauty and Essex over 10 times. I make it a point to visit the restaurant whenever I come to town for business. This was by far the least satisfactory experience I have had. Definitely an above average establishment not sure what happened on my recent visit.
It was fabulous!
Great atmosphere and delicious food! Fun people watching too.
Great meal and experience in an awesome venue!
Delicious food above expectations and the cocktails were amazing! Perfect end to our honeymoon in NYC
It was amazing! Will definitely be back!
We went in our anniversary and they were super kind and friendly and gave us a complimentary dessert. We loved our experience in Beauty & Essex. The food was amazing.
This restaurant was beautiful and the food was outstanding.
Our waiter was very informative about the different things we wanted to order. He made amazing recommendations on the combining of different flavors!!! Excellent
The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun and lively (but loud). The service was pretty sub-par but I kind of expected that for a Saturday evening.
Great for a date. a bit loud but fish tacos were excellent!
Food was great especially the toro tacos
Noise level good when we got there but as we were leaving it got really loud
Resemble prices on food and wine
Beautiful and cozy, yet sophisticated!! Food was incredible. Good portions
Food was great, had to wait 30 mins past our reservation time to be seated though. Host wasn’t very apologetic.
Food was interesting and mostly delicious. We were seated in a front annex which was drafty. The drinks were incredibly expensive and most were watery. We'd expected a terrific experience and were disappointed. It was very good, but not great.
It's cool entering the restaurant through a pawn shop. It would have been cooler if the door was closed so we had to open it to get in. But, it WAS at the height of the brunch time on a Saturday so I'm sure it was easier to just leave it open.
My wife and I were leaving for Penn Station right after dining and the staff there took good care of our bags while we ate.
The place was packed and very noisy but, I guess that's to be expected for the time of day. Everything we had to eat was very good but nothing was great. Still, however, it was good enough at brunch to make me want to go back at dinner time to sample a different menu.
So accommodating. Fabulous food. Great bar drinks. Will return again and again and again!!
The service was great. The food is always outstanding. Medium sized orders allowing you to share or eat yourself.
This is a really fun place to dine in. The aesthetic is awesome and the staff are very attentive. The food is daring but for me the flavors did not click. The bacon was coated in a sweet sauce. The burger also had a sweet aftertaste that did not fit the meaty craving I had.
The most overpriced mimosa in all of New York City - $17, not worth it. The burger was excellent but the fried chicken and grits was very dry and subpar in taste. Potato and cheese dumplings were good but not great as the server sold it to us saying if anyone visits Beauty and Essex they MUST have it.
Highly recommend the doughnuts, biscuit bites and grilled cheese dumplings! Delicious.
Great twist on small plates. Reasonably priced, lots of good recommendations from our server.
The security guard stationed at the top of the stairs was rude and aggressive. Prior to being seating we advised the staff that we would like to take a couple pictures if it was okay with management. We were told that would be fine. We were in town to celebrate 2 birthdays. When we got on the stairs the guard walked down and told us we were blocking the stairs which wasnt true. There was one picture taken at a time. No other staff members seemed bothered. Sadly we witnessesd 2 other groups taking pictures as we were leaving and have decided not to go back.
