As the beat will always be a good restaurant in my mind, nice to see it still has that charm of a beer hall. Good change of food beverages like the beer flights are a must to try and take one. Nice place to grab some beverage sand small snack food.
great night out with a group of eight
excellent beer selection - knowledgeable server
tasty food all around
good blues band
probably not a place to go to to have a quiet private conversation, but perfect for groups
Service was awful. We had a meal that was wrong, 2 meals delivered 20 min after everybody else was served, one served 15 min before anybody else. We waited 20min to see our server again to communicate the issues and get the remaining meals. We attempted to order a 2nd round of drinks but waited 30 min for them to arrive. In the interim we had requested our check and the drinks arrived after the bill. Upon reviewing the bill we noticed we were charged for 2 drinks we never ordered but we just ate the charge so we could leave. Also, 3 of the beers we attempted to order weren't available. We were out celebrating a birthday and all the issues totally distracted from our experience and celebration.
Visited Saturday night. Service was extremely slow. Food took 25 minutes (2 appetizers) and when we ordered drink refills we had to remind the waitress to bring them. Food was ok, presentation was less than desirable. They were also out of many menu options (both food and drinks).
My husband and I wound up here on a busy Friday — the eve of the Head of the Charles race. The restaurant is big enough to accommodate many different needs. The dinner was delicious - I had an entree salad with salmon and he had a hamburger. The salmon was perfectly cooked with crispy spice-rubbed skin. All the food was fresh and delicious. Great beer and cocktail selection. Best of all was kindness and efficiency of the servers.
Did not like this place one bit since they rebranded. The cocktails were watered down with too much ice and not balanced. They had gotten one order wrong and was incredibly late to serve our last friends meal. Service was slow.
Beat Brew Hall was much, much better when it was Beat Hotel. The space is still cool, but many of the tables have been replaced with picnic-tables which are pretty uncomfortable. You also will share a table with another party if you are a party of 2 or 3, which I suppose is fine.
The food and cocktails were DELICIOUS at Beat Hotel, now they are just ok. The cocktail list is much smaller and less appealing though my boyfriend liked the beer list. The menu has less options. Do not get the pub salad with added Salmon/chicken etc. I got it with Salmon and it was a nice piece of Salmon but it was on the plainest most uninspired salad I have ever had a restaurant. Iceberg, red onions, cucumbers, and barely any dressing (and I like my dressing light).
Our service was horrible. Our waitress forgot about us for long periods and it was hard for us to even wave her down.
I loved the Beat Hotel, but I will not be back to the Beat Brew Hall.
Beat was good - large tables and a bar area. Our server was attentive. The food was average. The apps and flatbreads were good, the ribs were a little dry. Drinks were good.
Food was good. But service was inconsistent. I think mainly because the kitchen was unorganized. Food came out at different times. Some apps come out with the main course. Good place if you want to hang at bar
Went in expecting Beat Brassier Jazz Brunch and discovered they have reinvented the restaurant. It's now an Oktoberfest brew pub and the whole ambiance has been changed- the stage area is no more and all blocked off. More beer, less wine, food similar but not the exactly the same. Hoping they bring in live music for this new theme. Will have to see what this new place is like in the Harvard Square scene.
They just re-opened and it feels like they are having growing pains with their menu (food and cocktails were very hit or miss) and friendliness of their waiters.
Food was good except the brown rice bowl. I was expecting a grain bowl like Beat used to have on their menu, but this was a bowl of brown rice with steamed vegetables. Pretty pathetic. Would love to see some heartier grains like farro and kamut and roasted vegetables and a seared tofu.
Food was adequate, but over-priced for what you got. "Appetizers/shared plates" were small for sharing.
This place has a great vibe, super unique feel, and then there’s my server the most unique human there is, love you Olivia Casella!! You killed it I’ll want to go back for you cause your the best!
Really disappointed by our experience here. Drove from NJ to Boston specifically for restaurant week. We had heard great things, so we were really excited. When we arrived and we were handed normal menus, but we immediately explained how we had made a reservation through restaurant week for the $38 pre-fixe dinner menu. We were informed that they were actually not participating in restaurant week, but we “should be able to find something on the menu” that we like. They completely disregarded the fact that they did not contact us to tell us that what we signed up for was not what we would be getting. The manager did not seem at all apologetic and kind of had an “oh well” attitude despite us expressing how disappointed we were considering the distances traveled. They could have at least comped a small appetizer or drink for us, but we felt due to our age, they completely took advantage and brushed us aside. This isn’t the customer service we expected at such a highly rated restaurant.
Amazing atmosphere and exceptional menu offerings. The wine is on tap and the selection is excellent.
Went for brunch. The music was great and quiet enough so that we could still talk. Our server Beryl was wonderful, the food was delicious and the whole experience was excellent. Highly recommended!
Good music with no cover charge. I had a vegetarian main course that was delicious.
We had a great dinner at Beat Hotel. The ribs were delicious as were the Irish nachos. The service is very attentive. If you are looking for a casual Harvard Square locale, give it a try.
Buffalo cauliflower is a definite win. Good service, good food, not a cheap date though.
Great cocktails at this place. I went recently for the first time in about a year and they really slimmed down the menu, which is fine. For the price though I felt like it wasn’t worth it. The tuna tartare was loaded with fresh ginger (overpowering), the watermelon feta salad had olives in it which made it too salty- the feta was enough salt; And the BBQ platter had very little meat and too many sides. It wasn’t that the food was bad but it wasn’t worth the price.
I would definitely go back for drinks and music/ambience. Also the staff is great.
Food was absolutely fantastic. I only scored this place 3 stars for the “value” ranking because the drinks are too pricey to me - $12 for a mimosa is killing me 😩. Other than that the food is A++ so is the service and ambiance. Took my mother and future mother in law there for breakfast and they LOVED it. Will be back again.
I love this place as one of my go-tos. I'm out of state, so it doesn't happen often, but it's reliable and good food that I know I can eat since I have to eat GF.
Had a lovely meal with my friend!
I put in my reservation it was my birthday and it was not acknowledged
Very nice dinner. We had one meat eater who enjoyed his dinner, one person who needed dairy and gluten free, and was happy with her choice, and one vegetarian who was also pleased. The food was fresh and the service was excellent.
Chose this in large part because of its proximity to the ART, but will definitely return because the atmosphere is lively and relaxed, the food interesting and tasty, at reasonable prices. Also, we were there before the music started, but it would be a really fun place to hear a band. Great start to our evening!
Great spot in the heart of Harvard Square! Live music with no cover! Fabulous menu with fresh ingredients and a fun atmosphere. Suitable for families, couples and friends whether it be for a casual get together or a celebration. Friendly and professional staff with great table service. There are two bars and high top tables. Go, listen to some great music and enjoy good healthy food. They also have excellent brunch and special events like Brunch with Santa! Make a reservation as they are very popular.
Good bartender, tasty and reasonably priced drinks. Service for dinner was fast but well paced for the multiple small plates we ordered. Worked perfectly for our pre-show plan. Food was eclectic and tasty.
Great open layout with quirky character and charm and AMAZING music venue. Food was incredible and we will be back for sure!!
My allergy & dietary concerns were treated exceptionally well! Food & drinks were awesome. Always great
Very nice ambiance. Tables seem to be a bit too close to other diners so try to sit in a corner booth. Very diverse menu. We enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer and potatoes nachos were delicious. Main course we chose the bowl of quinoa salad with steak. Dessert was the cheese cake with blueberries and we added vanilla ice cream. Service was excellent and the food was brought out very quickly as we were going to the theater after dinner. They have live music too. Nice bar area and creative cocktails. You won't go wrong dining at Beat!
Great brunch with friends before a matinee at American Rep. Enjoyed the eggs shashuka.
The food was great, per usual. The service was not as good as it usually is though. We got there just before most of the brunch crowd and maybe the waiter just didn't have as much to do at first but he came over about every 3-5 minutes a few times and we felt very rushed. Once we got the food, the service improved. The live music was great.
Unique but broad selection of food options. Great drinks as well. Fun atmosphere and excellent service. One kid has a nut allergy and they were extremely attentive.
We had tickets to see ART's show Jagged Little Pill, and we tried with restaurant since it was easy walking distance to the venue and had good reviews. We are not disappointed, great wine and beer menu, delicious meal, great servers, in and out by show time. We will definitely go back again! A great night out with friends!
Fabulous Fathers Day. Any day. Love the falafel bowl
A great place to grab sunday brunch, enjoy delicious food and listen to live music. We really enjoyed the band that came for the grateful dead bluegrass brunch!
Since they switched to small plates, I have been disappointed each time I have gone. Used to be that you would get a plate of ribs for about $18 now you get a single rib for $4. Small plates is opportunity to set ridiculous prices
I never write anything. The worst pasta dish ever. It was supposed to b homemade parpadelle noodles, they were stuck together like a ball. The tomato sauce had a ton of lemon. The wine on tap was the absolute worst. The waiter never asked us about it. It was so bad I just paid and left. I’ll never go back and would never recommend it. Sorry
