Fun, upbeat place with nice staff, good food, and live music. Good for healthier eaters who want salmon and quinoa -- and also for people who just want a great plate of ribs or pork nachos.
The food and the music (B11band) was really really good! Totally enjoyed the night.
Great spot for Sunday brunch! The jazz band is wonderful, created a calm and romantic atmosphere without being so loud that you can't still have a conversation. The cocktails and food are delicious, and the décor is so fun and vibrant! Somehow, it's not too crowded either, so the service is pretty quick and it's not too chaotic. Love it!
This restaurant is great for vegetarians. Their salad bowls are fantastic and very filling when you add falafel to the mix. Be sure to try to Buffalo cauliflower as an appetizer. They have live music, which is a nice addition to the dining experience.
Stopped in for a late weeknight dinner. Our server, Shannon, was outstanding and she made us feel like valued guests. The food was delicious as well. I had the Life Bowl with salmon. Very tasty and healthy. Well done!
Everything was great. Confused as my boyfriend was offered a "birthday cocktail" that was just an expensive drink I paid for.
The restaurant is too inflexible about not seating parties until everyone has arrived. We were kept waiting more than 15 minutes after the time of our reservation with 4 out of 5 people present, even though we explained to the hostess that we had called the fifth person and she was a few minutes away. After we were finally seated, the service was very slow. Our group had an appointment a few blocks away 2 hours and 15 min. after our original reservation time, and we ended up rushing through our meal. One diner's order was prepared incorrectly; they did fix it and take it off the bill but this added even further to the delay.
This was my second visit to this restaurant, the first experience was very positive so we were very disappointed with this second experience. Less trendiness and attitude that they are doing you a favor to let you eat there; more competence and attentiveness needed. Harvard Square is crowded with restaurants so there is no need whatsoever for us to go back here when there are so many other fine choices in the neighborhood.
First time at Beat Brasserie. Menu was very varied and had great brunch choices. Food was very good; service was good (attentive, responsive) but a little slow -- took a long time to get our food and it didn't seem all that crowded. The bowls were very good, specifically the Azteca bowl with added poached eggs. Live music was a definite plus on Father's Day! We all really enjoyed it. We sat at the bar waiting for our guests and enjoyed some of their draft wines, yes, draft wines. Great bartender, very knowledgeable. Will return when we're in the area.
Went to Beat Brasserie specifically for their Grateful Dad - Fathers Day Brunch. The food was good - quiche was excellent and my Eggs Benedict was perfect; however, the service was slow - possibly our server was a bit forgetful? We were disappointed in the live music - which may was advertised as a "Grateful Dad" - Grateful Dead/bluegrass inspired live show. Sadly, I don't think what we heard was either Grateful Dad or Bluegrass. Frankly, my husband said the music was putting him to sleep.
We've eaten brunch here twice. Both times the food was very good - they offer some unique brunch entrees and cocktails. Both times the service was poor - very slow, missing food items, wrong drinks. Wish they could figure this out.
The place is trendy and fun. The food was fine. The drink service at the table was poor. We'd order a drink and get it 15-20 mins later and no one ever checked on on us to ask if anyone wanted another drink. We'd have to waive someone down every time...
One of my favorite dinner spots - very good food (plus: very vegetarian-friendly menu) and live music. Check the website when making plans so you can sync your reservation with the performance times!
Service is usually very attentive. Drinks/wine options are excellent. Great spot for just a couple or a large group. Can't really say enough good things about the Beat - I hesitate to do so and make getting a table more difficult...but they deserve it.
Beat Brasserie just rocks, plain and simple. Great food, beautiful venue, and amazing live music. Wonderful service as well. The only downside was a very rude couple yakking loudly next to my date & I, but that is of course not the fault of the restaurant. If anything, I sympathize with the kind staff members for having to deal with their barking orders!
Overall lovely place, can't wait to return!
My husband and I needed a break from the usual hi end dining appetizer entree dessert yawn. This was great fun, outstanding music, will do it again.
Our favorite place at Harvard square always eat here before the theater
Tasty food but service was incredibly slow. We were seated and left on our own for 20 min before the waiter came for drink orders. 30 min later he returns to get food orders. 35 min later the food came. We were a big group but the restaurant was more than half empty!
I love the atmosphere at Beat but we ordered one of the salads with the quinoa cakes on it and the cakes were quite charred, almost burned. The salad had the potential to be very good if the cakes had been cooked properly.
The wait staff always keeps me entertained and laughing. I really enjoy the fun atmosphere here and the jazz is always good listening music.
My daughter recommended this place last time we were in the area. Loved it! Has a groovy vibe inside. Would definitely go back again :)
Can't recommend this place enough! Everything is of amazing quality, AND they take reservations - a rare quality for a brunch place in the greater Boston area! I've tried many of the items on the menu, and have never had anything remotely bad-tasting. I would almost call them flawless, but they have no gender-neutral bathrooms, which did make me uncomfortable as a nonbinary diner.
Food was not that great neither was the craft wine but the decor and atmosphere were fun.
We were celebrating my son's graduation, and this place was a lot of fun. Cocktails were yummy, food delicious, and service attentive. My only quibble was the room was a bit noisy.
We go to Beat Brasserie often for the live music, great drinks, and affordable, delicious food. I appreciate the seasonal menu and the ability to share small plates with friends. The bartenders are also very friendly and make some very interesting cocktails. I had the Something Natural (?)- cucumber vodka, lime and fresh cilantro. It was a not-to-sweet and perfectly refreshing spring drink. We will return many times over the summer I am sure!!!
I made a reservation for brunch and half my party was 30 minutes late. The hostess was super nice, said it was no problem, and had a table ready as soon as we were ready. All staff was friendly and I loved the live music!
Wonderful food, the performer was great, the drinks were amazing, and frankly, how frequently does one see wine on tap?
Excellent as always. Hostess was super accommodating, seating us near the stage upon request. Bartenders are always great when getting a few drinks before dinner. Very attentive waitstaff, fantastic food. Awesome music. One of my favorites in the city.
The food and ambiance was great! Disappointed that we were unable to dance to the great band Rick Russell Band. there were quite a few tables empty by the band, but when someone tried to move them to dance they were spoken to. It's too bad to have such a great band and not be able to dance.
Disappointing.....very average food, got twice wrong dish....nice atmosphere but it tooks us weeks before getting a table on Friday night and it was not really worth waiting for it....
We had enjoyed the Beat Beasserie before, so we're looking forward to the Mothers Day Brunch. Unfortunately, it was very overpriced considering the options offered on the prix fixe menu. All the food seemed to have been cooked in bulk in advance and was very lackluster. Bland quiche, soggy rhubarb cake, boring Caesar salad. The service was also slow and inattentive. There were 6 of us and it was a special day (Mothers Day and a college graduation). Wish we had chosen somewhere else!
Set menu on Mother's Day. Enjoyed the visit. Adult food was good, kids was just OK - Chicken dino's, really? Please, please, please serve kids food with a healthy fruit or carrot portion.
The food is always fresh and delicious - one of the best Eggs Benedict you can find in the city. However, I've never had prompt service at this place. Even with a reservation, we waited 15 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was not attentive and also forgot beverages we had ordered multiple times. On the other hand, the ambience is lovely, and the jazz music was the perfect pairing. If you go, be prepared for a leisurely dining experience.
Loved the ambiance. It felt good from the moment we walked in.
Service was good. We were greeted promptly and nicely and were seated right away, and our server was attentive and helpful.
So many good choices on the menu - hard to decide! The server was helpful, and everything we ordered was fabulous. It was fresh and delicious and all arrived in a reasonable time.
We don't drink, so I can't comment on the bar scene, wine list, or night life, but they did have fun-looking choices.
We had kids with us for Mother's Day (as did many others!) and that worked just fine. Not sure that this is a kids' place at night though I can't comment on that for sure.
Prices on the higher end but not outrageous and well worth it for us.
I went to Beat Brasserie in a Saturday night show. I didn't knew who would play but I took the chance and wasn't disappointed. There was a blues band playing great modern blues, and I like it very much. I had a salmon crostini as starter and a duck as entree and both were great. I loved also the wine list with organic wine choices.
Group of 12 people were seated at two distinct tables which made it challenging to interact as a group. We had two waiters assigned and there was no coordination for order taking, drink or food arrival. The end result, we really didn't end up eating together as a group and it was very disjointed. Their "policy" is to have space between two tables which could have easily be put together. Never heard of such a setup and should have been disclosed before we got there - maybe we would have chosen a different venue.
The manager was nice about this when I called the next day, but made offer of compensation or apology at all.
Fun place though with excellent drinks and food - their service needs to get up to speed to match. Disappointing.....
They insist of being on time and they even say they would charge $25 (how?!) for not showing up without cancelling. But the waiter was rude and it took forever (1h) for our meals to be served... The place is nicely decorated and the music band there that day for brunch was really nice!
My experience at Beat Brasserie was wonderful from start to finish. Very cool atmosphere. Menu fit for foodies with options to please both carnivores and vegetarians. Unique drink menu - I had the Kombucha Collins, which was delicious. Live music is always a major plus! The music was dinner appropriate, meaning you could still hear your date. Service was friendly and attentive. I have already recommended the Beat experience to my friends, and I will definitely be returning.
Been here several times. This time to celebrate a birthday, 5 of us. The jazz music was great. Everyone loved their food. Staff were friendly and efficient.
We loved the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the live music, and in general had a wonderful time with the family and my 3month old niece. However, we had a small issue with the service's basic rationality as we were forbidden to bring the baby's stroller next to our table even though there was plenty plenty plenty of space (btw this is another advantage that I forgot to mention before: no matter how crowded it gets, the place never feels packed). I imagine this was some sort of restaurant policy as it did not appeal to any real spatial necessity. The policy does not make any sense either, but whatever. Thank God our little angel is the sweetest baby in the world and spent the whole time we were there sleeping on my lap or enjoying the music during her sleep intervals.
Better then expected!
The food was subpar from a quality perspective (portions were quite small for the price and taste was subpar for the price). Alcohol selection and quality was good. The music was great. Overall ambiance was medium-high. I really liked our server a lot!
