Fabulous food, wine pairings and service.
The food and service were both excellent.
Went to Beast for Sunday brunch with my wife and I visiting from SoCal and my son and his girlfriend that live in Portland. Very welcoming as we entered the restaurant. The staff were very attentive and friendly. this was a 3 course fixed menu, each unique in presentation and taste from starting with a pastry, bacon sweet/savory combination moving on to 2 other courses, all extremely tasty and aesthetically prepared. Bottom line, really good and we all want to come back for the evening meals.
My fourth time, always sublime.
I'm not surprised that I really enjoyed this dining experience and I'm glad for that.
The menu was fantastic and the wine pairing (for $50 additional) was such a delicious experience. I really appreciated the waiter and sommelier's expertise/ professionalism as well. Both gave us great food and wine descriptions and everything tied together seamlessly. I'd highly recommend Beast. Especially for special occasions or celebrations.
Great food served at communal tables. They catered to my GF diet pretty well.
Incredible, low-key atmosphere. Fantastic food. The menu changes frequently, but I'm sure it will be fantastic whenever you go. My wife and I had a wonderful time catching up and enjoying the incredible food. We both love scallops and were very impressed with the salt-cured scallops. Such a great surprise!
Love the setting, however was expecting more from the food. Everything was just way too salty, and it was like they were trying too hard. Nothing stood out as amazing. Some dishes, like the salad, were almost too salty to eat, yes the salad was salty. Was hoping to find a great place, that didn't happen. Maybe it was a bad night, but for $300 its not worth trying again. Wanted to love this place, but just couldn't.
Incredible food. My wife and I were gifted a dinner for two with wine pairings by a business partner, and I think I'll always remember the meal I had there. Incredible complexity, a terrific "story arc" (in a sense) of courses, and expert introductions to each course / wine by the very kind, courteous sommelier. Thanks, Beast!
Amazing! Always consistently good. First time at brunch- and not the last!
This is an incredibly special restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone.
One of the best fine dining experience you’ll have in Portland
I maybe be a bit biased as I have followed Naomi's gastronomical exploits for more than a decade, but she always delivers an exceptional meal and experience. It's a true value as well.
We really enjoyed the Beast. We felt very welcomed upon our arrival. It was our first time doing a tasting meal and it was fun to see what was coming next and hear about all the ingredients in the dishes. All the dishes were delicious, and the Bloody Mary was quite delicious.
This was my 5 or 6th visit to Beast and oddly although it was thoroughly enjoyable, it was the lowest key menu I've eaten there. Still extremely good and well worth the value.
Beast never fails to impress. Another outstanding meal at Beast, the best we've had in the last year. Ms. P and her dream team provide some of the best food on this coast. Thank you! John and Marry
It’s my second time going to Beast for a special event and both times it has been REMARKABLE. Worth every penny! The food was exquisite and full of fascinating/unique flavors that I couldn’t get enough of (I could have eaten a whole meal of each dish!). The wine pairings were impeccable and the stories behind them were even better. I can’t thank the Beast team enough for making my boyfriend’s birthday so special, we can’t wait to go back!
Is it possible that this place gets better over time? I think it is. There just seems to be no end to the creativity that goes into the menu, and everything is so artfully presented. I'd highly recommend the wine pairings, well worth the money for the interesting and expertly-paired wines that you get. There isn't anything about this place that is short of stellar.
Food was very good but way too expensive. Not worth the experience. Probably would not go back.
Had brunch with wine pairing. Excellent food and friendly server.
The atmosphere and food at Beast are lovely. Great time.
We had an awesome brunch - service was on point, and the food was perfect!
Had 2 members of our party of 6 cancel for illness and their cancellation policy is extreme.
Amazing prix fixe dinner for a group of friends. Pairings were fantastic, especially the wine. Lots of wines from less known regions that meant something to the restaurant and paired really well with the meal. Did not feel heavy or over full at the end, as I have with other multi-course dinners. Overall a really great experience
We went here not knowing what to expect. Yes, it is pricey but my daughter and I tasted food that we never would have ordered and it was great. The wine pairings were perfect. Great for special occasions.
Awesome . Did brunch . Perfect amount of food and it was amazing!
Beast has to be the best restaurant in Portland. I have seen restaurants come and go and Beast keeps improving and getting better and better.
Everything was amazing, the food, the service. Could not ask for a better dining experience.
I love this place, the staff are always friendly, non-pretentious and very knowledgeable. The food is knock your socks off good and the wine pairing is spot on!
I love Beast. Plan on a 2.5 food event. You will not be disappointed.
one in our party is pregnant and unable to eat raw/lightly cooked egg. staff was very responsive and provided her with delicious replacements.
superb food and service.
Knowing that some of you will label this review as heresy, and as much as it pains me to write this, I think we witnessed the beginning of the end of Beast. Having eaten in the various incarnations of Family Supper and now Beast, I feel that we have enough experience to know the amazing highs that are possible by the Beast crew. Unfortunately, our last meal was mostly a low. The Amuse-Bouche was a dense, off-putting seafood salad on a dry wafer. The Oil Poached Hokaiddo Sea Scallop came sitting on a piece of too thick Pineapple. The Pineapple completely overpowered the Sea Scallop. The Parsley Garganelli was good, but not great, the pasta was a bit dry. The Beef Cheeks was not plural, it wasn't even singular, it was fractional. Sadly, it was served room temp at best. The Beef Cheek came with some Frisée scattered on it. It made no sense to have a bitter element with Whipped Potatoes and Carrots...less is more. The Beet and Endive salad was very good. The Profiterole with Blue Cheese was good but not great. The La Peral Blue Cheese was the best thing on this dish, I am going to call the Cheese Bar and see if they have any in stock. The Tres Leche cake was good, but here again this dish had unnecessary and unwanted micro-greens on it. Why?
The music didn't help the middling food. It was a combination of Pop and R&B that was too loud and mostly not very good. I overheard the diners next to me comment that the music sounded "like a race to the bottom of what was bad in 2017". I realize that music is very subjective, just like my review here, but I don't know many kids who would have enjoyed this music and can also afford Beast. Who is being catered to here? The clientele or the staff?
On a more positive note, the staff was attentive and very friendly.
There are lots of food options in Portland, perhaps one of them will take the mantle away from Beast.
I brought my wife here on a date after hearing good things from friends of ours. We chose to include the wine tasting which we both agreed was absolutely the right choice. The food was amazing and the portions sized appropriately given the 6 courses provided. While the seating is group friendly we kept to ourselves and found no issue with either noise level or feeling unable to share the moment.
A truly wonderful dining experience which we will do again once the season changes to experience a radically different set of flavors.
I so enjoyed our experience at Beast. All of the food was artfully prepared, even the bread from a local baker was a cut above. The beef cheek was something to remember. Lovely intimate setting and friendly staff.
Every bite was pure perfection. Wine parings were perfectly matched. The atmosphere is quiet and centered around the food.
Beast made our 25th wedding anniversary really special!
Great service, staff was knowledgable of the food and wines being served.
Lighting was a little dark, but that's a personal preference.
Fantastic evening. Great food, ambience, wine pairings, service, and originality. Would go back often if lived in Portland. Liked the "no tip" policy.
Smart servers, warm atmosphere, relaxed (but rigorous) kitchen. Every course tasted more magical than I was expecting from the descriptions. Big and small, this restaurant pretty much did everything right.
Amazing preparation and presentation in a small kitchen. Great staff. Food as unique as French Laundry
