Main course changed to duck since I booked dinner. Rare and not good. I did not like. Texture was off. The gravy was rich Presentation on all was lovely but I could have spent 700.00 for four anywhere in town and had a better meal. Too bad for us and our special celebration.

Amazing experience for a special occasion! I particularly loved both (1) the fixed menu and (2) the communal seating. Space permitting, they separate parties with a little buffer of an empty seat, but in our case, my wife and I had a choice of a couple places to sit when we arrived and we were placed across the table from another couple. We ended up having a lively and engaging conversation with them, and it only added to the experience. One of the larger parties, five in total, were sat at the end of the communal table, with a buffer on either side, and able to have more a private experience. On our other side were two couples, sat next to each other around the bend of the table, and each couple was able to have more of a private dining experience, despite sitting *with* to another couple. If this would be your first experience with the communal dining experience, no worries: it can be as engaging and communal, or not, as you'd like to make it.

Oh, and the food. Ohhhhh, the food. Ah...the food! Oh, and the wine pairings!

Yeah, let's just leave it at that.

We went there for my partners birthday and it was, without a doubt, completely worth it. We were very impressed by the wine pairings and tasting menu—definitely an experience any foodie should seek out. Presentation, taste and pairings were amazing. The sommelier and hostess were informative and fun to hear explain the wines and food. The shared seating was also a great addition to the cozy experience.

We began our anniversary celebrations with brunch at Beast. The three courses were inventive and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the open kitchen, knowledgable staff, and the communal setting. It was a great start to a wonderful day!

Food was so amazing. The brunch tasting menu was generous, and I was full for the entire day, but it was all so perfect. All three main courses were different and satisfied every brunch craving - smoked salmon was divine, the apple clafoutis with candied bacon and vanilla cream was insane, and the pork shoulder hash with a poached egg had this dijon hollaindaise which was incredible. Usually I don't like hollandaise because it's such a gutbuster, but this was not too heavy and all the roasted veg and confit potatoes in the hash were so incredibly delicious. The 4 mini sweets at the end were perfect! Coffee flowed generously, and although service wasn't particularly friendly, it was very attentive and efficient. I will definitely be back for dinner! Reason to visit PDX again!!!

Fantastic. This was by far the best Prix Fix menu my wife and I have tried in Portland, ever. Pacing was great, wine pairings were actually really good (my experience has been bad with these pairings at most restaurants), and the food was phenomenal. The serving of Wagyu was surprisingly large, which is so appreciated as many restaurants dish out 2 oz at the most. Ahi, pasta with mushrooms, wagyu, and even the salad were very good. Its always funny to me to sit in a communal setting and hear the comments from other diners. Food taste and style of cuisine are so subjective and responses are all over the board even when everyone in the entire restaurant are eating the same dishes, at the same time. Some will love it more than others, but we absolutely loved every dish all night. Super impressed and will absolutely return. Very well priced, with the gratuity included. Great job to everyone who works here. Keep it up.

My wife and I were visiting Willamette Valley but we stayed in Portland. One of the vineyards suggested Beast and we could not have been happier. The meal was superb and the pairings were spot on! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for great high-end food in the Portland area.

I’m very disappointed. My business client had to cancel and only after 10 minutes of having the reservation I asked to cancel it and it took until the next day for someone to call me back and say that they do not except cancelations and I would be charged a fee. I’m in the food business and sad to say I’ll never go back here

The food is fabulous. The price is high, but worth the experience. And, you don't leave a tip, they don't want you to and they zero out the tip line on your bill. You don't know what's on the menu until you get there and each dish is spectacular. We opted for the wine pairing which was another great experience with wine offerings from all around the world. We had a wine from Mexico with our Wagyu beef course, it held us surprisingly well, but we all agreed a cab would have been more desirable. My only complaint would be that the music was too loud so it was difficult to hear each other and also hear the server describe each course and wine offering. I'd definitely go again to bring friends or for a special occasion.

I cant say enough wonderful things about Beast!!! The staff was incredible, the food was so thoughtful as well as intricate, fabulous tasting as well as approachable!!! It was our anniversary and we had traveled from Detroit to Portland for getaway; they were so helpful with the reservation and gave us a wine paring as a special gift . I am a chef in the food scene in Detroit and was just over the top about the entire tasting menu and every little detail that went with it!!!

Some may go back to Portland to hike ( and that was cool) but Beast is what I would travel back for again!

Bravo and cheers Beast

My dining companions and I have traveled extensively and eaten at many James Beard Chef and Michelin Star restaurants as well as those who are not yet recognized for their talents. We felt the menu at Beast was disjointed from one course to the next and the wine pairings disappointing in the selection poured and in their lack of compatibility with the food. I’ve read great reviews of Beast so perhaps this was an off night. The venue is quaint and cozy but very dark so impossible to read the menu.

The wine by the bottle was quite expensive - it would have been good to have had some cheaper options
The food was incredible but there was great efficiency bordering on unfriendliness in moving us out at the end of our dining for the next seating.

The noise was off the charts - mostly due to a block fair outside but..Music inside, Culture Club and 80's doesn't quite fit the vibe. Food was good. Enjoyed watching the chef. She needs to a better job of hiding when she is ticked off at a guest or her sous chef. I have to complaints about the food. The beef, while it was cooked well and seasoned just right, the beef itself was not good. It was tough and if it wouldn't have been for the seasoning (salt) it would have had no flavor what so ever. The other complaint is the overall menu. Don't get me wrong, overall, the food was great - there was just too much sweet and black pepper - it was just out of balance. We enjoy eating at Beast. It is always a culinary adventure but this menu, while it sounded great, was just meh.

We spent the night at the chefs table for our special occasion, so we felt very well taken care of. The food and service were excellent. For the quality of the food the noise level to include loud music was not appropriate in my opinion. I could hardly hear my girl friend talk to me. The wine suggestions were spot on! We would go back if the music would be a little less "energetic."

The food and service was exceptional. It lived up to hype and expectations. The experience was a special treat for us. I had expected the family-style seating to lead to a more social mingling. Loud background noise and deep tables made it difficult to converse with those around us, however. We enjoyed our twosome, aided by delicious wine pairings accompanying every creative course. Narrower tables and a little acoustic dampening could make the experience even better.

The Beast is amazing don’t get me wrong all the dishes with the exception of the poached duck egg being over cooked was wonderful. Unfortunately the duck egg was the show case for the main dish and it was definitely over cooked for most people there that I noticed. The run was minimal on the yolk and that is why I was disappointed. Poached eggs can be difficult but if it is going to be the show case it needs to be perfected :). I will definitely be back again though as the service and the rest of the meal was wonderful !!

I really wanted to like this restaurant and I had very high expectations. The food was good but it really wasn’t that great other than the first course. I just feel like the flavors didn’t really meld all that well, among other things. I’m not disappointed, I just expected so much more because of previous reviews. There are so many other restaurants in Portland, luckily.
