Beacon Bar & Grill have a really good brunch. I take the train from BWI and then Uber to the spot, yes to me it is worth it. However, this time the food seemed less inspired than in times past, the scrambled eggs were very very hard, dry and unappetizing, the buffet serving utensils needed care and attention, and some of the desserts tasted stale. So no big deal, I don't need the carbs and they make omelets to order.
My only real gripe is the noise level. When we arrived there were lots of people and the noise level was tolerable and conducive to conversation. About 30 minutes later, two groups arrived and they were so loud and rude, that we quickly finished our meals and left. Even though they were not together, they all apparently were acquainted with one another and the level of noise was deafening. Management would be wise to address parties that disturb other diners. The manager was aware of the situation as other tables complained, but for whatever reason he did not approach the parties in questions.
This is the perfect spot for live music on a Friday evening!!!
I went for the music, which was outstanding. I made a reservation through OpenTable and arrived on time. I gave my name to the Maitre D and told him I'd reserved a seat for one near the band. Then I was told the only available seat was in "the back room". My waiter was surly but brought me what I'd ordered; the duck breast was tough and way too salty. Then when I got home, I got an email informing me that the restaurant had cancelled my reservation 15 minutes after my arrival. I definitely recommend the music on Friday nights, but not the food. Next time, I will order only wine or beer.
We had a wonderful time--our waiter was very attentive, but NOT hovering. Really love the live music. Have made reservations to return later this month. Hope we are able to have the same table.
TLDR: Bad service, cold vibe, and uncomfortable atmosphere made us leave without ordering dinner.
This place was very awkward. We were attracted here by the 1,000 point bonus on opentable as well as the overall review mark. However, after experiencing this place I am concerned for opentable’s legitimacy regarding reviews.
We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time to find an empty podium, we proceeded forward to a group of employees huddled around the bar. Upon entering the group looked up, saw us, then continued on with their conversation without any acknowledgement. We thought it was odd and we were unsure of what to do, so we ask “do we seat ourselves?” To which someone in the group acknowledged with “yes” and someone else laughed as we tried to decide where we should sit.
This place felt like it was some cheap, wanna-be-upscale type venue that was built into a hotel as an after thought. The seating was awkward with open half-moon booths. The Service was cold and unwelcoming.
We ordered the Moscow mules and couldn’t decide if we should stay for food, so we asked for a minute to review the menu (really review our options). Our server responded by telling us we should hurry because they were closing early since it was a slow night.
Our server brought the Mules out in glass cups, not copper, so it was just a mixed vodka drink essentially. Not worth the $10. After that, and the attitude about closing early, we decided to ask for the check and left without eating or ordering anymore. We went up the street to The Commissary which was really good and much cozier and more welcoming.
We came for the music, which didn't disappoint. The food was good and the prix fixe menu made it a good value. The décor is so-so, not what I was expecting for an upscale supper club.
Had s great time at a friends birthday brunch.
Very nice venue to dine and hear good jazz.
Comfortable seating, well-spaced tables, attractive atmosphere, excellent musicians and singer.
We’ll definitely be back.
The food was great! We really love the unlimited Mimosas!! Dominic was the best waiter ever!!!
We went on a Friday night to hear Chris Grasso and Sharón Clark perform, who are wonderful jazz artists. The atmosphere and decor are nice in the restaurant however we sat near the entrance and the noise from the bar was quite distracting to the music and even with no music it interferes with conversation in an otherwise reasonable noise-level atmosphere. The food would have been better were it not for the excessive saltiness and in my friend's case excessive garlic in the shrimp scampi. She couldn't finish it due to the garlic. I had mussels and the duck both were okay until the amount of salt quickly began to register as overpowering (my lips started to burn) and it was too bad because the duck was tender and not bad. Others at our table reported the caesar salad too salty as well. The desserts (apple and bourbon pecan) were pretty good.
The amazing Sharon Clark plays Friday evenings, with wonderful accompaniment from extraordinary pianist Chris Grasso and the incredible Michael Bowie on bass. Very highly recommended.
Food about average, decore that of a middle-america hotel dining room. However, the excellent jazz stylings by Sharone Clark with Chris Grasso on the piano made the Friday evening memorable.
Fridays at the Beacon Bar and Grill present a spectacular night of entertainment with Chris Grasso and the incomparable Sharon Clark. The musical entertainment is top notch and truly memorable. I'd highly recommend it.
It was an excellent dining experience.
Booked this restaurant solely based on the 1000 pt bonus, I see why it was offered, for the first 30-45 minutes of our 6:30pm reservation the place was vacant. None of the staff was aware of the reservation (given the place was empty, we didn't really need one) and they had to hunt down the manager to validate our Open Table booking. The waiter made a number of mistakes regarding our drink orders. These were corrected without issue though it lowered our expectation of the restaurant. The food presentations and taste were very good, something that essentially saved our evening.
Great selection of food. Desi, our server was extremely attentive which made it an even better experience.
Great food, great service !
Intimate setting on the lower level of a boutique hotel. Hip decor with an "under the sea" feel. Ambiance is great. Plenty of staff but it seemed to be "European style" service, meaning lots of time between courses. The jazz Friday nights is HOT with Sharon Clark, Chris Grasso and Tommy Cecil. There is a three course prix fixe menu for jazz nights. I recommend asking to see the full menu as well, which was not automatically handed to us. The lobster tail was unfortunately overcooked for both my husband and me. And was served oddly with a polish sausage. But overall a nice experience.
Don’t know how to make a drink. Service was pathetic! Food was ok.
Great brunch with unlimited mimosa . The food was great and plenty to pick from
It was just okay. We expected to get the “Sunday brunch.” I recommend going on a Sunday.
The food was excellent! Not a place I would want to come on a date again. The place was dead on a Friday night.
This is my group's go-to brunch and we enjoyed the new items added the menu! Keep up the good work BBG.....
I met my 4 friends here for a Birthday Brunch. Literally the best food and very “potent” mimosas. Definitely coming back!
Always a good experience. We are regulars for special occasions.
I’ve always come back because it’s the only restaurant where you are not rushed to eat and scoot! You are comfortable and can be there until you are ready to leave without any pressure to leave! Experience the food and drink in their welcoming atmosphere!
My dating clients had a nice time and enjoyed your restaurant. Thank you for taking good care of them.
Prices have gone up but food has gone down
I have always been pleased with my experience here but it was just ok this time. I didn't like that the Shrimp & Grits had pork sausage or any sausage in it (I'm allergic to pork). I didn't notice the sausage until after the food was on my plat with everything else. My portion didn't have any sausage but still I had to discard the plate. The fried seafood combination was stale and too dried out to eat at all, I tried.
A+! Always a great time. I go as often as I can!
I love The Beacon! My friends I go go almost every sunday for brunch.
Took my boyfriend for brunch to celebrate his birthday. This was my second time going to the Beacon and again I 'm completely satisfied. The server Desi was great she was very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and well prepared. We enjoyed the unlimited mimosas as a added bonus.
Disappointed in the food. Poorly seaoned. The restaurant which is quite lovely was empty except for us. Maybe that's a good indication. Too bad.
It was higher than normal due to having seafood this week. Seafood didn’t warrant the high price for brunch.
We had a great time for our brunch date! My partner and I come here all the time! The lady with the red short hair was attacking other employees. So my partner spoke to a manager and got her to stop being so rude to her coworkers! After that, the experience was great! Also, please fix the music!!!!!!
Food was amazing, especially the waffles!!! Only issue we had was that they played the same Ariana grande song the entire two hours we were there. Other than that, was a fantastic experience!
The new manager is great. Professional and genuine. She had such a positve vibe. Liked the new menu!
Great server and staff!!
Steep prices but really pretty atmosphere (in the dining room area). The service was decent but we got overcharged for some items and it took awhile for them to change the bill. The server did not seem to know the menu very well, but he was very polite so maybe he was new. Our dinner was good but not sure it was worth the price. The highlight was definitely the cocktails, so I would return for drinks. Definitely a good place for a date or business lunch.
The staff was great!!! They were very attentive!!
