Contemporary American
Designer Walter Gagliano's second visioning of BBG introduced a fresh, romantic feel to BBG. Vermeer’s portrait of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” was the muse in creating a new look. “Our original goal was to bring the space to a cleaner more contemporary vibe. When we discovered the over scaled Vermeer print, originally created by Philipe Stark, our fondness for bold romanticism found expression and led our fabric and lighting choices in a different direction" stated Gagliano.
Chef Edgar Melendez introduces a menu that balances his own personal flair and beliefs with the wants and needs of our guests. Clean lines, bright flavors, and unique combinations best describe his culinary style. Menu items are influenced by the seasons in conjunction with local farmers and purveyors. Just like our clientele, our cuisine represents a fusion between regional and global influences. Chef Melendez's goal is to give a truly pleasant and graceful dining experience in a casual, elegant setting.

I went for Sunday Brunch. Brunch is buffet style and comes with bottomless mimosas. It'll run you about $45-$50 but it is well worth it. Customer service is fantastic. Our waitress Desi (sp.) was very attentive. My mimosa glass and my water glass was never empty. :)

I have been there several time but this was a bad experience. I had requested a table in the lower level but that was being cleaned (at lunch time, oh my). The table we were seated at was over a heating vent, so it was too hot at first then too cold when they turned it off (not able to adjust temperature). Two in our party order an item on the menu, only to find out they didn't have it. One person ordered fish (salmon) and it was bad (smelled funny). She had to return it. When she selected another entree, she requested no onions and it came back with extra onions. This place has been going down for some time now, maybe they need new management.

We went there for brunch. We made a reservation at 9 thinking we could do their $35 brunch special (three courses plus bottomless mimosas or champagne) but were told that you are not allowed to do that until 11. We hadn’t seen that anywhere on their website but could have been an oversight on our part/DC law we aren’t aware of. So we decided to go walk around for two hours and made another reservation to come back at 11. What upset us is that the hostess was not helpful at all. She was rather rude and indifferent. Not very good with customer service. Didn’t help facilitate another reservation for us. I don’t think you should employ someone as a hostess who does not have people skills.
Overall we had a good time. The waiter was incredibly kind. The food was meh. Kind of tasted like reheated freezer food but honestly we had gone there for the mimosas anyhow. I’d say we had 8-10 while we were there. They were constantly filling. And for $35 I’m okay with subpar food.
Would go back again but they should think about moving their hostess to another location.

Scallops were fishy and chewy. Crab cakes were full of crab shell pieces. The waiter, though kind, had trouble hearing us over the noise, and the ambiance was that of a run down hotel cafeteria.

Have been to Beacon several times and my past visit will be my last. There were very few people at the restaurant and we still had slow/bad service. We had to ask to order our food, they started vacuuming towards the end of our brunch which caused us to leave early. Our waitress brought our bill without asking if we wanted a final round of mimosas and was very off put when we asked to split the bill evenly between debit cards. After we paid, she never came back to clear any plates or refill water. Sad to see this place go downhill.

Wwhat happened to this place? Came for Sunday brunch and was sorely disappointed for more reasons than one. The food hadn't been refreshed. Nothing about the atmosphere was sophisticated and the place was dirty with visible crumbs and detritus on the floor. Never again

Beacon Bar & Grill have a really good brunch. I take the train from BWI and then Uber to the spot, yes to me it is worth it. However, this time the food seemed less inspired than in times past, the scrambled eggs were very very hard, dry and unappetizing, the buffet serving utensils needed care and attention, and some of the desserts tasted stale. So no big deal, I don't need the carbs and they make omelets to order.
My only real gripe is the noise level. When we arrived there were lots of people and the noise level was tolerable and conducive to conversation. About 30 minutes later, two groups arrived and they were so loud and rude, that we quickly finished our meals and left. Even though they were not together, they all apparently were acquainted with one another and the level of noise was deafening. Management would be wise to address parties that disturb other diners. The manager was aware of the situation as other tables complained, but for whatever reason he did not approach the parties in questions.

I went for the music, which was outstanding. I made a reservation through OpenTable and arrived on time. I gave my name to the Maitre D and told him I'd reserved a seat for one near the band. Then I was told the only available seat was in "the back room". My waiter was surly but brought me what I'd ordered; the duck breast was tough and way too salty. Then when I got home, I got an email informing me that the restaurant had cancelled my reservation 15 minutes after my arrival. I definitely recommend the music on Friday nights, but not the food. Next time, I will order only wine or beer.

TLDR: Bad service, cold vibe, and uncomfortable atmosphere made us leave without ordering dinner.

This place was very awkward. We were attracted here by the 1,000 point bonus on opentable as well as the overall review mark. However, after experiencing this place I am concerned for opentable’s legitimacy regarding reviews.

We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time to find an empty podium, we proceeded forward to a group of employees huddled around the bar. Upon entering the group looked up, saw us, then continued on with their conversation without any acknowledgement. We thought it was odd and we were unsure of what to do, so we ask “do we seat ourselves?” To which someone in the group acknowledged with “yes” and someone else laughed as we tried to decide where we should sit.

This place felt like it was some cheap, wanna-be-upscale type venue that was built into a hotel as an after thought. The seating was awkward with open half-moon booths. The Service was cold and unwelcoming.

We ordered the Moscow mules and couldn’t decide if we should stay for food, so we asked for a minute to review the menu (really review our options). Our server responded by telling us we should hurry because they were closing early since it was a slow night.

Our server brought the Mules out in glass cups, not copper, so it was just a mixed vodka drink essentially. Not worth the $10. After that, and the attitude about closing early, we decided to ask for the check and left without eating or ordering anymore. We went up the street to The Commissary which was really good and much cozier and more welcoming.

We came for the music, which didn't disappoint. The food was good and the prix fixe menu made it a good value. The décor is so-so, not what I was expecting for an upscale supper club.

We went on a Friday night to hear Chris Grasso and Sharón Clark perform, who are wonderful jazz artists. The atmosphere and decor are nice in the restaurant however we sat near the entrance and the noise from the bar was quite distracting to the music and even with no music it interferes with conversation in an otherwise reasonable noise-level atmosphere. The food would have been better were it not for the excessive saltiness and in my friend's case excessive garlic in the shrimp scampi. She couldn't finish it due to the garlic. I had mussels and the duck both were okay until the amount of salt quickly began to register as overpowering (my lips started to burn) and it was too bad because the duck was tender and not bad. Others at our table reported the caesar salad too salty as well. The desserts (apple and bourbon pecan) were pretty good.

Food about average, decore that of a middle-america hotel dining room. However, the excellent jazz stylings by Sharone Clark with Chris Grasso on the piano made the Friday evening memorable.

Booked this restaurant solely based on the 1000 pt bonus, I see why it was offered, for the first 30-45 minutes of our 6:30pm reservation the place was vacant. None of the staff was aware of the reservation (given the place was empty, we didn't really need one) and they had to hunt down the manager to validate our Open Table booking. The waiter made a number of mistakes regarding our drink orders. These were corrected without issue though it lowered our expectation of the restaurant. The food presentations and taste were very good, something that essentially saved our evening.

Intimate setting on the lower level of a boutique hotel. Hip decor with an "under the sea" feel. Ambiance is great. Plenty of staff but it seemed to be "European style" service, meaning lots of time between courses. The jazz Friday nights is HOT with Sharon Clark, Chris Grasso and Tommy Cecil. There is a three course prix fixe menu for jazz nights. I recommend asking to see the full menu as well, which was not automatically handed to us. The lobster tail was unfortunately overcooked for both my husband and me. And was served oddly with a polish sausage. But overall a nice experience.
