Okay so sitting in this speakeasy felt like I had wandered into a moody camera filter in the best way possible. Dim lighting, cozy vibes, music that made me feel like I should be wearing velvet gloves and dramatically sipping something mysterious. There were four tables total which felt intimate… or exclusive… or maybe just limited seating, unclear. Anyway, we got seated at the table closest to the entrance which is like the speakeasy equivalent of being seated next to the bathroom at Applebee’s, not tragic, just mildly awkward. Also there was this air vent that decided to personally attack my friend’s face all night. Like aggressively. It felt like the vent had beef with her specifically.
I asked the waitress if the tea came hot or iced, you know, a completely normal question in any timeline, and she looked at me like I had asked if they serve tea infused with moon dust lol. She actually said, “We don’t usually serve tea,” which is both mysterious and confusing. So I was like, okay… green tea? Maybe? And then she brought it and honestly, it slapped. I loved it. The tea was having a moment. My friend’s cocktail looked like something you’d order if you were a glamorous divorcee in a Nancy Meyers movie and she said it was her new favorite drink, so that was a win.
But then.. the wait. For the food. Was. Eternal. Like I aged a little. When it finally arrived, I nearly cried from joy. I got the filet mignon which was actually phenomenal: beautifully cooked, lovely presentation, and there was even a tiny decorative flower on the plate like the steak was about to go to prom. That said, the sides were teeny-tiny. Like fairy-sized. Garlic mashed potatoes and roasted veggies (squash, carrots, onion, broccolini), all very flavorful, but portioned like they were being rationed in a Jane Austen novel.
And then the check took forever. Again. But whatever. I still had a great time. I will definitely go back and next time I’m getting the beef Wellington like I’m in a BBC drama.
