Every dish was absolutely amazing
Wonderful food and gorgeous ambiance and fantastic service
Amazing food, amazing drinks and gorgeous interior.
Amazing food and great atmosphere! The hummus is crazy good!
It was as amazing as everyone says! Yum - we will be back
Have already recommended this place to several friends and fellow industry folks. My server and supporting staff were absolutely phenomenal. Only issue was with person offering beverages to those waiting. Seemed like you are an after thought, even after it they ask you if you want a drink. My non server brought out a bottle of wine and poured me about 2.5-3 ounces of wine. I pour wine for a living and when I jokingly said something he was serious and walked off. Rested the wine bottle on my glass, spilled wine down the glass and table and on my menu and didn’t wipe it up. Most expensive sip of wine I’ve ever had.
Best restaurant in la. Took my best friend for her birthday!
This place is fantastic for a fancy dinner! The meals are portioned perfectly. With a party of 3 we had: Duck Hummos, Baba Ganoush, Meat Charcuterie, Gem Salad, Lamb Neck, Duck, and Dorade (Fish), Chocolate Rose Doughnuts, Cheese and Strawberry Pastry with Drinks, it rounded up to about $277 (not inc tip). The server convinced us to get 4 appetizers, I don't don't think we needed to do that we got full very quickly; But still happy about the outcome. My only complaint was our reservation ran about 30 Mins behind on a wednesday night, they made up for it by giving us some drinks (although i don't drink i was happy they made an effort.) All in all 10 out of 10 would definitely come here again.
Food was nothing great. Restaurant had extremely bad acoustics.
Very noisy. Server wanted whole order immediately while we wanted appetizers over martinis while we looked at the menu. Very expensive and very noisy. Seemed like a cement box.
Each time I eat there the food is excellent, presentation is on point, and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. One of my all time favorite places to eat at.
Food so amazingly delicious. Service- superb. Only downside, super loud, music loud, bare surfaces echoing all the voices. Energetic??!! Maybe too much.
Our server Ethan and his asst. Jesus made sure it was a magical meal!
My wife and I stumbled upon this place a year ago and could not have been more pleased with the experience. The decor in the main bar area is give a vibrant, airy feeling, while the food and drinks are all prepared with such care and attention to detail. In our latest trip, we ordered two plates of the oyster mushrooms, which are cooked perfectly and are tender with a crisp on the edges. The duck hummus bursts with flavor in each bite, and the cucumber pear salad has a fresh, zesty taste that exceeds even a high expectations I'd have for what I thought may be a filler salad.
The staff has always been great -- bartenders are great at making bespoke cocktails, and the crew has always been attentive (reasonable wait times, friendly demeanor). We found out that they curate the music, which is always on point with a blend of modern and classic hip-hop.
The only knock I have it the enclosed patio area, where the decor leaves something to be desired (and really pales when compared to the main dining section). And, it's not the cheapest place ever, not exactly an everyday spot for us. Otherwise, this place is just about perfect. We love Bavel and highly recommend the experience.
It's one of our favorite places in LA and I highly recommend.
The food is fresh & creative. My problem is with so many spicy dishes it's difficult for us with more sensitive pallets. Be prepared to spend more than at less popular joints.
We had the best dinner here! The service was phenomenal, great recommendations and the food was incredible. I wish I wasn’t visiting so I can eat here all the time! The wine was delicious, overall one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. It is very loud, so if that’s not your thing be warned.
Favorite restaurant currently. Amazing food, great service, and overall a great experience.
Fantastic food and service.
Unbelievable Middle Eastern flavors, great service, great vibe, comprehensive wine list. Definitely worth the trip to LA's Arts District.
I have been wanting to come here for a year. Finally make the trip downtown to have the worst rudest waiter I’ve ever encountered. Maybe it was because we had a baby with us, maybe because we didn’t drink, who knows. He wouldn’t look us in the eye, was outright rude when we didn’t eat one of our dishes because it was too spicy, and made all of us at the table outraged with the attitude. The food was okay. Desserts phenomenal. But will not be back.
Our group of four people ordered 14 different items--each one was a gastronomic delight. Every single item was exceptional in flavor--even the hummus! Our waiter, Richard, couldn't have been more engaging and informed about the menu--he could tell us what each unique ingredient was when we couldn't identify it. I'm not used to loud restaurants anymore, so we kept our conversation down to a minimum. Lots of hard surfaces and lots of people made the place very "energetic." We are definitely going back. I can't wait to take other family members.
One of my favorites places in LA. the . food is superb, service is great and the Chef is friendly.
The food and drinks were amazing. We ordered a lot of different things off the menu including things we weren’t too sure about from the menu description but each dish was a delicious surprise. The desserts were just ok, but often restaurants with delicious savory food is lacking when it comes to desserts unless they have a pastry chef, but that’s ok because everything else is so good. Even the mixed drinks were so good. The location isn’t great, but that’s just downtown LA. You will not be disappointed.
The food was incredible -- I don't even know how to describe it. The quail, chicken liver pate and beef check were fantastic.
Seated immediately when we got there for 7pm reservation. All of the food we had tasted amazing. It was a bit loud in there, however. Overall, would recommend to eat here at least once in your life!
Loved the food second time here and especially the curry sauce . The oyster mushroom kabobs , and everything was great ! Service and ambience great
We had a great time. Delicious food and excellent service.
Place was wonderful. We love every dish that came out!!! Great place to celebrate a friends birthday!!!!
The food was amazing, as usual this is one of the best places in the city to eat. Our server was also great and knowledgeable about the food. The only draw back to the night is that we waited 45 minutes beyond our reservation time. Our host failed to keep us updated and I had to check in every 15 minutes. We ordered drinks while waiting but that took 20 minutes to get as well. I know its important to keep the tables full but if guests have to wait 45 minutes for their reserved table I think something is wrong.
Great food, strongly recommended for sharing. Wines are okay. Service is very slow while you are waiting and great once you are seated.
We arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait over 15 minutes for our table. We were seated and then greeted by a lovely man who I presumed was a manager. A few minutes later our curt, cold, rushed server arrived. She was expedient, knowledgeable, but decidedly cold. It felt to us like her message from the beginning was: don't get too comfortable here. No small talk. Get to the point. We are in a rush. What do you want?
As our server explained, our food would come out as it was ready and not as we would rather eat it. It came out exactly that way, in a timely manner. Thankfully, the food runners were very friendly and eager to explain the details of the food to us. We paced our eating so we could eventually have all our dishes together on the table so we could dip the bread from one in the sauce of the other and experience the meal fully. My dining companion has an aversion to cilantro. When she asked our server if the cilantro could be left out, the server made it abundantly clear that NO ALTERATIONS are tolerated by chef. I find this practice of refusing any and all alterations to be incredibly presumptuous, jarring and off-putting. The food was disappointing. When I see a blazing fire in a hearth and a wood burning oven in a kitchen, I expect the food to come out blistered and intentionally a little charred. Ours did not. Some of the dishes would have been so much better if they were given time in the fire. Some were overly spiced or under-salted. Overall, the food fell way below our expectations. The service and the pacing and the restaurant's refusal to accommodate our requests as guests made us feel like we were being told were lucky to be eating there and should just keep quiet and count our blessings. But we should count them quickly, because clearly another group was waiting for our table. The check was dropped before we were finished with desert. We will not be going back.
Baba Ghannouj had 2 much garlic, it totally deviated from what it should taste, even for someone from the Middle east, the amount of garlic was sickening.
The Lamb neck Shawarma is not what Shawarma is, can call it something else. Meat was tender, the accompanying pickles were mediocre
The Noise level by the salad counter was extreme, and watching how the kitchen towel was used by the prep staff would definitely make me think 2 before going back or recommending a friend to go there
The restaurant was stuffy and smelly and very loud. We had to scream across the table to hear each other. The food was over priced. I have no problem paying a lot of money for food as long as it tastes good but hate paying a lot of money when it tastes average. The kabob mushrooms tasted like someone marinated them in lighter fluid. The lamb chops were bland and had 0.0 flavor. The wine list was ridiculous as well. I did not recognize a single wine on the menu. I feel this is a way to rip you off by offering wines you’ve never heard of and charging you whatever they want. We tried 3 different wines (2 bottles, and 1 glass) and they were awful. The babaganoush was outter worldly. The only good thing we had that night.
I gave 3 stars on service because other than the waitress, who was clearly having a bad night, everyone else was fantastic. Sommeliers was awesome and friendly. The cleaning staff was so great. They came by and checked on us often. The waitress on the other hand couldn't care less. Funny but the table next to us was celebrating their 14th year anniversary. So were we. Their waitress was so engaging and recommending in a fun way. We were given the short choppy answers with attitude.... but the food was incredible.
We had 5pm reservation, but were caught in traffic and I called them and told them we could be arriving at 5:20pm. When we got there at 5:20, they had given away our table and seated us at the counter. We had Laker tickets that evening and couldn't have stayed later than 6:45pm. My question for the host was they expect guests with 5pm reso to leave before 6:45pm? I don't think so.
Anyway, food was great as always and the service at the counter was good as well.
Service was great, food was amazing, drinks were wonderful
Food and service was amazing! 10/10
The food was awesome as advertised by all the reviews. We were very much looking forward to the experience. Our primary waiter was far below our expectations of this type of restaurant. He was inexperienced and/or having a very bad day and it reflected in his service. There were many others who assisted our table who were all outstanding in delivering our meal with excitement and adjectives that enhanced our experience. Every dish was delicious and we’ll come back with hope of an alternate or greatly improved waiter.
Wasn’t so good the 2nd time☹️ Grilled mushrooms were cold, bread a bit stale and toasted burnt
Food was good and the spreads were fresh and flavorful. They are served with a lot of bread so you can easily get full quickly so watch out. Great wine list too.
