Battello Ratings and Reviews
The only thing saving this place was the view. Hostess was downright rude and made is feel unwelcome. We brought birthday cake and upon her seeing it first scolded us and told us of the per slice serving fee. Fee wasn't the problem, the delivery of the message was. Then, to make matters worse, made us witness her opening the box so if the cake was damaged in transit in any way, it would be our fault. Moving on to food, pastas were ok, pork chop good and steak flavorless. Waiter better than hostess but cocktails took forever and wife asked for "very cold" cosmo and he clearly dodnt check that it was room temp. Cold hostess and warm drink to start was hard to come back from. So frustrating when a nice place is ruined by unwelcoming service.
The food is delicious and has creative flair - grilled peaches and burrata, beets with goat cheese , gnocchi, and pancetta wrapped scallops. All excellent. Desert did not disappoint either croissant crisps and chocolate cake with coconut ice cream, both exceptionally fresh and flavorful. And the cocktails are special too -Misunderstood ginger whiskey with matcha tea...yes please! Service was attentive. Just had to wait a little long for a couple of requests, like a glass of ice and a taste of wine that we wanted to purchase a bottle of. So that our appetizers arrived before our wine. But they held back dinner a bit to accommodate us. The views of NYC are spectacular, but the dock is "closed for maintenance" which should be shared with the customer at reservation time since this is definitely part of the reason you come to Battello.
Wonderful food, cocktails, service and atmosphere. The marina pier location with a view of lower Manhattan, the open dining space, high ceilings and cozy seating are fantastic- Add-on to this, the seasonal menu with fresh ingredients was flavorful, imaginative and beautifully presented. Last but not least, the service was informative, friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant-
We had a work party here in their back private space before it shut down for renovation. The food was great and everyone enjoyed the party, but my only complaint is the private room has no water views. Other than that the it was a great time. I especially enjoyed the passed chicken and waffles appetizer and the nice selection of meat and cheeses they had on display. I would visit Batellos again in the future, especially considering the lack of "upscale" lunch spots in the Newport Jersey City area.
Definitely recommend - great view, excellent service, nice ambiance, food was good (not great). Went for my wife's birthday and only mentioned in reservation (asked for a nice table - which it was) and they had set up a small cake with a candle (which I didn't even ask for!). It is a little thing but it speaks volume for the great service!
The food was absolutely delicious! Our party had black sea bass, bronzino and lobster along with a grilled pear and burrata appetizer. I have never had fish so perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned! Although not inexpensive, the incredible food is worth every penny!
Celebrated our daughter's birthday with lunch here. Great space with whitewashed brick, soaring ceilings and windows everywhere. View of NYC skyline is magnificent. Food was spectacular...we shared grilled peaches with burrata to start...like eating sunshine! We all chose the crab cake burger... very large serving with tasty sauce and bacon. Sides were French fries or tossed salad. We washed it down with a bottle of rose... more sunshine to taste. Excellent service by Tammy. This was a very special day!
Battello is a waterfront destination in a large hall, likely a converted boat house, with excellent views and valet parking. The portions are generous and the dishes are, for the most part, tasty. Unfortunately, the chef will not permit some members of the party to enjoy the tasting menu, which consists of any available dish as opposed to a separate or limited menu, while other members do not. That is irksome. Overall, Battello is a solid option for Jersey City dining.
Menu selection is varied and appealing, as was the preparation of the food. Scallops wrapped in pancetta with quinoa and raisins was especially good. One complaint: desserts are on the skimpy side and more stylish than satisfying. But this is quibbling - the great ambiance more than compensates!
beautiful location on the water. The Happy Hour prices on drinks and appetizers was a good value. All staff were friendly and efficient. Recommended branzino was delicious, as was pasta and chocolate dessert.
Parking was efficient and convenient with valet at street entrance.
Nice view of Manhattan.
If you want horrific service and mediocre food then this is the place for you. Bar was not crowed, yet it took nearly 10 minutes. I'm sorry, but this unacceptable. I had high expectations and they were not met.
We ordered a bottle of Duckhorn, not available. Then asked for Caymus, not available. Manager insisted we get a cheap in expensive bottle that was disastrous. It is common restaurant etiquette to offer the patron a more expensive bottle at the same price. Manager never gave us this option and I was done with the whole experience.
Food was cold , not cooked correctly for example i had grilled octopus which taste bad couldn't even chew it and paid 17 for this crap, no taste in dishes which we received at all ,my wife had pasta which taste terrible i am not a cook ans i think i would made better pasta. We do not recommend this place. Worst restaurant in jc , the only nice is thing is view but for 150$ for dinner i am sure you can find nice place
We had a very enjoyable visit to celebrate my wife's birthday. Unfortunately, the patio area is closed, due to work being done by the landlord (beyond the restaurant's control), but the main seating area is nice. Our food was very good, from appetizers to entrees to desserts. The service was very attentive, and we appreciated a nice visit from the manager, Cesar, who stopped by our table. All in all, a good experience. We will be back.
The food and ambiance were good, but service left quite a bit to be desired. We had an 8:00 reservation for two on a Monday night and waited at least 40 minutes to be seated. It was busy, but as tables emptied out, service seemed to get worse rather than better. There was a very long wait between our first and second courses, and we had to flag down a waiter for a dessert menu and then to order dessert (and they knew we were celebrating a birthday, so would be ordering dessert). Nice spot on the water, but probably won't be hurrying back soon.
