Brunch was excellent and the service was unmatched. If you have the opportunity ask for Carter he is a great waiter. His recommendations were spot on.
Firehouse renovation is very cool, however, because it’s a firehouse with all hard surfaces the noise level is very high. My drink (FH7) was excellent, I enjoyed every sip of it, and our “meatball” appetizer was absolutely scrumptious! Panzanella salad was very tasty but also had a bold vinaigrette and so I couldn’t finish it because my taste buds hurt. We ordered lamb chops (yum!) and two pasta dishes (meh). The pasta dishes were just ok, a little bland. Overall it was a good experience and I think I would go back again but wouldn’t order the Pappardelle or the lemon cavatelli. Did not have dessert.
This restaurant is just perfection. The physical building is lovely. It is set up perfectly inside - with the tables not being too close together. The menu is diverse - and every single item we tried was delicious. We had the chicken Parmesan and eggplant Parmesan - best anywhere. The pastas were incredible. Mine had fennel sausage and I truly would drive back to San Antonio just for that dish. The cauliflower and brussel sprouts were delicious. We had no room for dessert - but maybe next time.
WE LOVE BATTALION, THE FOOD, AND THE STAFF/SERVICE !!!!!! NAOMI MAKES US ALWAYS FEEL WELCOME. WE ARE IN LOVE WITH THE SPINACH DUMPLINGS, AND ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO BRUNCH..JUST AMAZING.
With a unique and brilliant menu, I fear for Battalion's competitors. The Chef, and his kitchen, create a superb menu, with a mind to share dishes between parties. The staff works in a single unit cohesion, working on taking care of people with noconcern of credit due, lending credit to the entire staff.
Fabulous as usual - but loud, loud, loud
Great signature cocktails - FH7 was refreshing and served in a chilled metal martini glass. Try the meatballs for a first course - Amazing! Artichoke dip is served cold - so-so. You cannot go wrong with any of the pastas - we had spinach manicotti and the bucatini. Both were incredible and piled high with parm cheese! Feeling full already we ended up splitting the lamb chops - comes with 4 breaded chops with a flavorful cream sauce. You will not leave hungry! Ambience is an old fire station. Only complaint was - don't get seated next to the door to the outside patio or you will have a breeze everytime they go in and out - which was constant!
Highly recommend Battalion for the fabulous and delicious food and terrific service. We were there for Sunday brunch and were extremely impressed.
Had reservations with my husband for date night. Loved the vibe, beautiful scenery, and overall loved the environment. The service was outstanding and the food was very good. Will definitely be going soon.
Life changing Cauliflower!!
Be prepared to wait a few minutes, despite having a reservation. However, the cocktails are worth the wait with outstanding bar services. The food and service are outstanding and even when the restaurant at peak time can be a little noisy, I believe the whole experience is very much worth the trip. Our sever Christiaan was very helpful and knowledgeable of what the restaurant has to offer. Excellent experience overall. We will definitely be back again!
As always the food and services are amazing! However the upstairs is always hot.
We’ll be back!
Delicious food and great ambiance! Will definitely be returning.
Always a lovely experience with great, friendly service upon entering the restaurant to the bar staff and servers. I wish you would share your training with other local restaurants.
Delicious food backed up with excellent service....and one of the best Espresso Martinis I've ever had! Thanks for looking after us so well Wacy, you're an asset to Battalion!
Had a reservation on a Tuesday and was seated promptly. This is my second time coming back. Loud but good ambiance. Could barely hear the waiter and that's bc it was calm. Recommend the cherry Italian soda, it was delicious!!!!!! I dont think I have ever recommended a non alcoholic drink, nonetheless, must try! We had the meatballs, so good!! Ravioli was tasty! We also ordered the buccatini... which was bland, needed more pepper for sure... but I do recommend the panna cotta, so light and with the candied pistachios, delish!
Unique yet lovely location. Great cocktails, good wine menu/value and amazing food, all around.
Food-wise, it was great, I just wish it was hotter when it came to our table. The tacos would have been a notch better with sliced avocado. Food is otherwise delicious and worth the price. The Italian soda was excellent as well. When we asked for cream for coffee, we were brought what must have been 2% milk, which was kind of disappointing but I consider this a minor inconvenience.
Ambiance is really cool, and we will return, but I'd rather park blocks away for free than pay another dollar to that parking "manager". Evidently theres some disagreement between the jerkwad of a parking manager at the saisd lot next door and the restaurant. Parking is no longer free so make sure you have $5 cash. I wish Battalion had more info about this ahead of time so our experience wouldnt have started off on such a bad foot. I know Battalion had no control over the parking cost but even Biga on the Banks was really good about communicating and making sure we were prepared for changes to their parking situation. I wish Battalion had done the same. I am also making a complaint to the parking management company for the parking "manager" behavior.
First of all, the restaurant itself was so unique. The nod to old and a touch of modern was such an interesting concept. Our server was incredibly helpful when choosing our food and wine and made sure to check-in on us every so often. And then there was the food...The food was divine! All of the food is designed to be shared and honestly it's more fun that way because then you get to try all kinds of dishes! The spinach artichoke dip with the crispy prosciutto was the best I've ever had. The pasta dishes were probably my favorite, especially the spinach dumplings which my husband said that he could eat once a week for the rest of his life. The veal with the fava beans and morel mushrooms was fork tender. My husband and I were there celebrating my birthday and at the end of our meal our server was nice enough to bring us an enormous piece of tiramisu that was super rich and indulgent. I would definitely recommend Battalion and I cannot wait for the next time we can go there!
Food was delicious, staff outstanding, and prices were reasonable considering quality of food. Highly recommend!
Awesome, as always!
Outstanding food and relatively inexpensive. Portions were large.
Food and Service is always excellent! Continues to be one of my favorite places.
Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Food was not up to the standard of previous visit. Blistered beet salad was disappointing, beets barely roasted, not many pears and walnuts with gargonzola a puddle in the bottom of the bowl. Spring pea pasta was very good. Everything seemed rushed from the kitchen when we wanted a leisurely meal.
Excellent food! Sorry some of my favorites are no longer on the menu. Some things were very spicy and burned my mouth which is disappointing. I wish that could be on the side and added if you want it. It's difficult to take out once it's in the dish!
Great atmosphere, service and food. Cool old firehouse turned into a nice restaurant..
Excellent service. Good food, more brunch options would be appreciated. BEST pancake I have ever had in my life.
Because we heard it was quieter upstairs, we opted for a table there. The problem is that everything, food, drink, etc. has to come up the stairs. Service was somewhat slow. The noise level was unbelievably loud.
Way too loud, upstairs and down. Food overall was great but disappointed that the home made pasta had too many added ingredients thats you couldn’t taste the fresh pasta. It is not an upscale restaurant but more of a jeans, shorts and sandals kind of place.Tried it twice and not sure we’ll go back any time soon.
Service was professional and courteous
Great spot for downtown pre theater meal. Great atmosphere, service and food. This is not a one and done...I will be returning.
Amazing food and the service was good. Love that they rotate the menu occasionally.
Batallion is a wonderfully quiet yet relaxing restaurant. Highly recommend the high-end yet reasonably priced meals and drinks! And the servers are high-end, too!
Just way way too loud. Can’t even talk.
Everything from cocktails to dessert were top notch! Everyone had a different cocktail and I honestly could not say which was my fave. Appetizers... burrata!!! I loved my pasta with peas and pancetta but the lamb dish and trout were also table favorites. Lots of tasty sides! Dessert was amazing and we loved finishing with house made lemoncello. Our servers were wonderful making this everything g we could have wanted for our party of 7 graduation dinner!
Excellent food and great service. Not cheap but the lovely restored fire station and atmosphere made it worth it.
Dining at Battalion was a very cool experience. We enjoying the unique atmosphere and the architecture of this renovated firehouse turned restaurant. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable, and our food was delicious. A def must do while in San Antonio!
It was difficult to hear the waiter explain the menu because the noise was so loud. Was not aware that it was a family style servings so was not prepared. Would have preferred to order my own food then to order different ones and share.
