Came to Battalion to celebrate a birthday and our experience was awesome. The food was great along with energy in the restaurant. Overall a good dining experience.
Loved the vibe at the restuarant. When entering the premise the staff was very friendly and the decor was amazing. Great bar area on the 1st floor. Our server was very nice and understood the menu very well. Our glasses stayed full all evening and he was pleasant throughout the night. The place where this evening fell short was the food. We had a 4 top and ordered different entrees and sides to try as many different dishes as possible. The pasta was cooked well but so heavy on the salt it wasn't finished, the pork chop was cooked perfectly but also very heavy handed on the salt. We also ordered the T-bone and it was ok, the sear was not great ordered Pittsburgh style and it was cooked medium rare, I was expecting more from a $34 steak. 1 of the sides we did order was fantastic the spinach dumplings, excellent buttery cheesy sauce that was delicious. I wished every dish we ordered had tasted as good. This restaurant has a ton of potential, great location, great staff, wonderful ambiance just lacking in food quality
Loved the food . . . Lamb chops, egg plant parm, spinach artichoke dip, mozzarella, bar drinks. All great and prepared perfectly. Also, pastas were fantastic!
With all the heard surfaces, it was noisy but a really neat building.
Went for our 24th Anniversary. Waiter was helpful with menu due to food allergy and no meat. Food was delicious and just the right portions two!!
Great Meal and Great Service the only issue was they brought out three of the meals and then it took about 5 minutes for the 4th meal to arrive. It really was a major bummer to wait for the other meal to arrive.
This is a fabulous place to eat! The food and the ambiance is fabulous! The service was good but our waitress was a little too zealous and we did not finish one course and the next one came. and they tried to clean our plates with food still on there and not asking if we were done. Just a training issue, but overall the place is fabulous!
Great service, no doubt. Food was just barely warm, although it had great flavor, I felt like it must have sat in the kitchen for a while before it reached our table.
Our service was impeccable. He was well informed, friendly and we enjoyed visiting some with him. We will be back! Loved the table our son picked, this was our view. We ❤️ you Sam Antonio!
We had a fantastic dinner celebrating with our son for his 19th birthday.
Had a business dinner and everything was great! Would highly recommend Battalion for any occasion!
We were celebrating my brother’s engagement. The decor was beautiful, but didn’t seem appropriate for a renovated Fire Station. The building, while beautiful, would have been better complimented with fixtures that weren’t so shiny and overly abundant. Our waiter lacked the ability to anticipate needs and overall attentiveness. Menu a little too pretentious. The reddish was delicious, but would have preferred a salmon or halibut option.
We were given the absolutely worst table in restaurant right by back door to patio service. Every time door opened, a blast of hot air came in. Probably happened ten to fifteen times in an hour. It was horrible. There were two tables for four opened next to us and they were quickly filled with couples? In addition you couldn’t hear anything because it was so loud. The service was good, but I could Not hear our waitress. I had the crusted Lamp chops. Horrible! The squash side was equally poor in taste.
Worse meal and a restaurant in San Antonio.
Always high quality, both in the service and the food. It is our “go to” date night spot.
Excellent food, service and fun atmosphere. Highly recommend it!
Service was great. Cocktails were, also, great. Olives & marinated watermelon salad were very good. As usual, parmesan lamb chops were outstanding. We loved the pecorino donderets. For our taste buds, both the grilled summer squash and the corn & mushroom farrotto were not quite up to level of excellence that everything else was. All the same, we were very pleased overall with the evening and the meal.
We celebrated our 26th anniversary with dinner here and we were blown away with the quality of the food, not to mention the great customer service! #flavoronsteroids
We had a wonderful meal there Monday night. We started with the grilled octopus, ( wonderful!) and spinach balls. We received a complimentary order of the spinach pasta manicotti that was stuffed with homemade ricotta. Amazing also! The main entree that we split was a veal shoulder roast with leeks and other goodies. Totally awesome! We wrapped up with sharing a sabione (spelling?) desert that came in two cups perfect for sharing. Our waiter helped us with selecting a nice Pinot noir to go with dinner and made excellent recommendations!
We went knowing that the Battalion was know for great food, but also for a very high noise level that I attribute to all the concrete and hard surfaces that lead to a lot of echoes. Go for the great food and friendly service and tolerate the noise level, and you will have one of your best meals in a long time.
Great food, great wine, great service, as usual.
Food was pretty good, but this restaurant was so noisy that I couldn’t easily talk with others at my table. It would also be an improvement if they made a practice of serving complimentary bread with your dinner. They will only do so reluctantly upon request.
It was a mixed bag. Although our server Anna was extremely friendly and attentive, there were a lot of negative factors stacked up against our experience to ever recommend Battalion. We were sat upstairs, in a corner table. The tables themselves were beautiful, however, completely not functional for ANY movement and made our dining experience VERY poor. Any movement to the table (cutting meat, plate setting, BREATHING, etc) completely quaked the table--spilling everything. The base of the table was no where structurally capable of holding the marble top. This was discussed with the staff, who were completely aware of the problem. They tried to "fix" the table with no success. Further, the temperature between the downstairs and upstairs was significantly different, creating a dining experience upstairs comparable to the humidity/heat of the Tropics! My party was extremely uncomfortable due to the heat. The menu was lackluster, not creating the most memorable palate experience, definitely forgettable and not worth repeating. Apart from the meatballs. Do yourself a favor--sit at the bar (not a table), DOWNSTAIRS, order a cocktail and eat meatballs. Anything that deviates from that, you'll be sorely disappointed.
Can't believe it took us so long to try Battalion. Look forward to returning!
The food, service and ambiance was fantastic! Best Eggplant Parmesan I have ever had!
We have dined at Battalion twice before and enjoyed very much. This visit was so disappointing. The kitchen seemed off. The watermelon salad was very spicy and quite unimpressive. The eggplant dip seemed under seasoned. The lamb chops were way over done. The green beans were supposed to be charred. Well let’s try burner and bitter. The drinks however were excellent. Overall, the kitchen seems to have fallen off significantly.
Amazing food and service however music is a bit to loud. Parmesan incrusted lamb chops are incredible
Best meal ever. Service fantastic. Food incredible. Could not find anything wrong. A+++++
Fantastic food and service, one of the best dining experiences we have had in a very long time! Highly recommended!
Battalion is always wonderful! We liked some of the new items we tried - the green beans, watermelon salad and pork loin were delicious! Of course, you can never go wrong with the meatballs and any pasta dish. Be wary of eating upstairs during the summer - it was quite warm. Ask for sitting downstairs where it is cooler.
Great food and fantastic service from Maurice. Will be back.
Awesome waiter guided me through steps. Vegetarian friendly. Awesome fresh food with interesting mix of flavors. Blistered beet salad had soy, gorganzola, pear, walnuts, greens. Best beets ever. Spinach dumplings in cream sauce absolutely freshly made. Ready to go back for more. Reasonable price for the experience. Beautiful setting.
Good food, excellent service but it was hot in the restaurant.
fantastic food and service!
spent almost 3 hours at the restaurant just enjoying the food and cocktails. server was attentive but not overbearing; very knowledgeable about the food. he made plenty of delicious suggestions without over selling it. finished the dinner with a glass of the homemade limoncello along with their tiramisu and pana cotta. would definitely go back again!
Service was exceptional and the food was phenomenal
From the manager to the service, everything was fantastic. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio we can’t thank you enough for always treating us like family.
Everything was amazing. Just a little sad they won’t be serving brunch anymore.
Great restaurant! I’m looking forward to Sunday dinners there.
They are one of the best restaurants in town! Great food, fast friendly service and the building is so beautiful.
Of course I had to return to Batallion! The food is great and the service is amazing!
Delicious food, great service, unique venue. Only problem, extremely limited free parking. Had to pay for parking in a nearby parking lot.
I highly recommend if ya haven't gone before ... The building is an amazing transformation from a historic fire station… That was our 5th or 6th time there and the food seemed to me to be too salty and not of as high of a quality as from when they 1st opened . Also the sharing dishes part of it was not as encouraged by the menu as before, so it was not as fun.
Excellent food. We got several different selections for the table. Everything we tried was awesome. My favorite was the summer squash lasagne. We also tried the carbonara, octopus, fried peppers, beet salad, eggplant parmigiana, pork loin, lamb chops, and goat cheese torte. Highly recommended.
