I'm Italian and I've had one of the best carbonara in United States
Really cool experience of a converted historic fire station into a fine Italian restaurant. We made reservations for 7:45pm on a Saturday evening. When we arrived it was already bustling. The environment was great, the service was top-notch, and the food was amazing. We felt for the amount of food and beverage that the total ticket was appropriately priced. In short, we had a really wonderful time.
Great service! Our waiter Wasey was extremely attentive and had great recommendations! Nothing we had was below exceptional!
What an amazing experience! The place is smaller than expected, packed and lively on a Saturday night. Service was great polite and attentive, decor is pretty cute, the plates are so cool and the food is just outstanding. Good music at a perfect volume. Free parking next door! Will definitely return.
The food never disappoints and keeps us coming however the only downside to this restaurant is it’s extremely loud due to being a modern building. Won’t stop us from coming back but next time I’ll ask for the top floor!
Love the Italian tapas concept. Such a fun date place!
The first time we visited Battalion the waiter was really helpful explaining to us how the menu worked. That it was basically a family style system. This last time we visited with friends we again asked how the menu worked so that it could be explained to our friends who had never been there. The waitress was not really helpful, nor clear about how the menu worked. We were told that it was just like any other restaurant. We were all very confused.
Amazing food and service. Our server, Wasey, made my mom's 70th birthday dinner amazing.
Excellent food and service
Service was great and food was delicious.
Dinner for 4 - outstanding all around! Great food - we shared several small plates and a pasta, then shared 3 entrees among the 4 of us. Great way to try multiple things! Spinach dumplings, octopus, mascarpone as appetizers; milk braised pork, lamb chops, and eggplant parmigiana for entrees, tiramisu and citrus tart for dessert! More than enough food! Exceptional service!
Thoroughly enjoyed this first time to Battalion. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent including our choice for a take home dessert. Battalion is definitely a place we would like to visit again.
Food and visual ambience is good, but the noise level is very loud, especially for hearing aid wearers.
A great place to eat away from the sameness of the restaurants along the Riverwalk. Food with Italian style at its roots but a long way from the standard fare of most Italian restaurants. And a chance to experience a part of San Antonio outside the Alamo/Riverwalk area. Interesting building, spacious and light filled. Small but interesting menu built on quality ingredients with an excellent wine list. Of course the trade-off on quality ingredients and wines is that sometimes stock is limited but the second choices also turned out to be good.
Poor service at the table. Waiter was quite rude and unpleasant. Unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for the rude service.
We went t Battalion as a group of 4. We had 1 appetizer, 3 pastas, 1 main dish, 1 side dish, and 2 desserts. The dishes are meant to be shared, and I'm glad I got to try a little of everything. We had the meatballs, corn ravioli, octopus pasta, ricotta gnocchi, pork shank, okra, tiramisu, and panna cotta. Everything was delicious. The ambiance within the old firehouse was welcoming, and the service was on point. We had a few cocktails from their menu with were also delicious. Would certainly recommend this place to others.
Drinks, food, service, everything was amazing. Definitely going back soon.
Our server Rudy was very attentive, helpful and accomodating. We were seated promptly, and well looked after. Rudy made good menu recommendations and was able to accommodate our three young children despite there being no kids menu. The menu is designed to be shared. Four adults were fed with just two entree dishes, a pasta, salad and appetizer. The bill was very reasonable. Food was the most authentic italian we have eaten in the US, simple and fresh. Would definitely return if we visit San Antonio again.
Battalion did not disappoint! We tried two dishes from each section of the menu and everything was delish! Well-paced and attentive service, great beverage menu (kids loved their fresh made Italian sodas), and the little details, including the multiple plate service and glassware, well appointed comfort areas, very professional staff and interior design made this place shine for us in dining experiences. Things to improve? Maybe the noise level but could be a structural thing. Must try: the pasta... as fresh and tasty as they come. Oh, and if you like Octopus, theirs is most tender and peppery.
What a great experience from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. Everything was great! We will definitely be back.
It was a good experience. Food was delicious and drinks were good.
Loved the place, great piece of history. It would be great if they incorporate some history about the place, maybe change attire to nice shirts with a firefighter Shield to bring more life to the place!
Awesome food. Awesome place!
Loved the food and the service staff was great!
We came in and were immediately sat as we had brunch reservations but there were plenty of tables still available. We started with the funnel cake, a beer and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary could have had more spice, but it was still tasty. The funnel cake was phenomenal with the strawberry chili jelly. We then ordered The Madigan, a pork belly plate (don’t recall the name) and the Tiramisu waffles. Each was good, but nothing really stood out. The tomato sauce on the Madigan was not overly flavorful, very fresh tomato, so not bad, but not craveworthy. The pork belly plate was good but nothing extraordinary. The tiramisu French Toast was simply okay. We didn’t get any great flavor filled bites from them which we hoped for. The bacon seems oven baked and is crispy, it’s a definite win.
Service was prompt, although not overly friendly and no recommendations were offered from our server. The unisex bathrooms seemed odd but the one I used was clean and had an amazing candle in it. We probably wouldn’t do another brunch here but might try a dinner.
Had a long wait (about 30-40 minutes) past our reservation time of 7:30P.M. We've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes on our previous visits. There was a large party on the second floor and that seemed to throw everything off for the rest of the customers. The couple at the table next to ours finally left after being kept waiting for an hour+ past their reservation time. Finally sat outside. Food was very good and our server (Carter) was great.
We were late for our reservation because of traffic, but we eventually got seated. The staff and service were all wonderful. The food and wine were definitely worth the wait.
Our second experience at Battalion, even better than the first time! Dishes are served family style, the main courses easily feed 2 or 3. We had the chicken parm as main course and it was outstanding. Only hiccup was finding a place to park. They have a large lot but it can fill up then you have to hunt for a spot on the street.
Great food, great service, waiter was awesome. The ambiance was comfy and romantic.
Great cocktails! The bartender was friendly and attentive. Diner was great as usual! Handmade pasta is the best!
The food at Battalion is always so fresh and flavorful! We love it here!
Our server, Russell, was very personable and took very good care of us. We totally enjoyed our food. The Njuda Mascarpone dip was amazing!
Great food but very hard to carry in a conversation. Party of 30 upstairs included entertainment that was not very enjoyable to us!
Excellent food, awesome environment. Service was slow and the portions were kind of small.
The food at Battalion is excellent. The Octopus and meatballs are very delicious. The reason I rated 4 out of 5 is due to it being too cold, noisy and our server forgot some requests on both occasions I visited. Overall, the food is great and I would definitely go back when visiting San Antonio.
Hosted friends from OoT and everyone was pleased with the experience. The place was packed and the service was good
as was the food.
Second time at Battalion, which is often the most telling visit. Is it going to be as good as the first? Will it live up to your expectations? Especially as we were taking a dear friend this time. Well, we needn't have worried! From the greeting to the drinks in the bar, to service and the food, everything was as good or maybe even better than before. To those who criticize the restaurant for its noise level? It's called "atmosphere" and it means people are having a good time! The restaurant was busy and boisterous. No, it's perhaps not the place for a quiet, serious dinner or for a deep discussion - but for a great meal, outstanding shareworthy food and the company of friends who appreciate something a little different, Battalion cannot be beaten. And the amazing service. The staff know what they are talking about and go above and beyond to help make it memorable. We look forward to next time.
The reviews of Battalion were excellent, and we were intrigued about the restored fire station. HOWEVER, it is like dining in a nightclub. Very flashy interior, lots of red lights, loud thumping music. Fine for late night, but not what we were looking for at dinner. We had great service, and really enjoyed the food...but we didn't linger and won't go back. Disappointing.
Our first visit. The food was excellent. Service was great. It was very noisy as previously noted by other diners.
The food and service were excellent however, because of the acoustics in the building noise is amplified, so it was very difficult to have a conversation with the person that I was eating with. Also, I think they were overcharging for the drinks. I bought a drink of Pappy Van Winkle and it cost the same price as a bottle for 1 drink. I would eat there again but maybe on a less busy day and I don't have much to say to the person I'm eating with.
It was difficult to navigate the menus and
