Batifole Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Exceeded our expectations. Recommended by a friend (chef) and we were intrigued by the history as Christmas Story is one of our favorite movies. So the movie connection was fun ... but the food and the wait staff were fantastic. Americans on holiday celebrating many wedded years were afforded consistent attention, guidance and warm courtesy. Every suggestion and dish was beyond what was described and we were treated as favorite customers. Also the "energetic" atmosphere was not distracting for these two NYC'ers, and the patrons at the surrounding tables were joyful and friendly. The waiter, my guess manager, was patient and the perfect humor for us. Highest recommendation as we will be back each visit to beautiful Toronto.
We enjoyed a celebratory dinner with a bottle of excellent white Cote de Rhone. Starters were skipped, and we had three dishes: A delicious " Bourride of Seafood and Fish" which was a take on a bouillabase, a very well loved Duck Two Ways, which was a confit leg and roasted breast of duck, and finally a Flat iron steak, which looked quite delicious, although a bit petite. The claimant of the last dish wished he had ordered the duck although he complimented the steak..
Chef and owner Pascal took the time to come to our table and introduce himself.
Restaurant is unpretentious but well decorated, cozy. I found the music a bit loud, my friends thought it to be at good volume.
Quality of both ingredients and preparation are high.
I will r
From when I walked in the door, I found that the young hostess/waitress was not experienced in her work. Instead of escorting my wife to the reserved table, the waitress went to the table, and then looked at us standing at the door as if to say "over here". We sat down, and then the waiter, equally inexperienced, began pouring sparkling water for us (we did not ask for sparkling water, nor do we like it). I ordered a particular bottle of wine, only to find at the end of the night that on the bill I was charged for another bottle of wine I had not ordered. In fact, not once did the waitress or waiter come by to serve my wife some wine from the bottle during our entire evening.
The food is exceptional, however the service somewhat ruins what could be a truly special experience. The two go hand in hand.
The all French wine list starts at $40 a bottle. Try the salad with pork belly as well as the duck 2 ways. Truly wonderful flavours that will bring you back to the charms of Europe.
Our group of seven recently had wonderful time at Batifole. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We most appreciated not being rushed out the door. Batifole provides a high quality dining experience in a very comfortable, France-evoking and welcoming atmosphere. Merci beaucoup!
Manages to be intimate while being a bit on the louder side (bistro style). Excellent service and food. It is not terribly busy outside do to its location (on the edge of East Chinatown) so probably really nice for outdoor dining during the summer (unless you want to people-watch).
Service was terrific, even the chef came over to our table to ask if we were enjoying our meal. The 3 of us all had the "duck two ways" and it was a hit with all of us. Appetizers all very good. Would definitely recommend Batifole to friends and certainly plan on returning.
The OpenTable "recommendation" categories leave much to be desired. The categories are irrelevant to restaurants such as Batifole so we decided not to select any of them.
Frankly, we would like to keep this little gem to ourselves and share it with a few friends. That however, would be an unforgivable disservice to Pascal and his team.
Batifole just recently celebrated its first year under Pascal's ownership. The event itself was an unforgettable feast of Pascal's culinary brilliance.
We're not dining connoisseurs. We simply go by taste and personal enjoyment. If you're looking for an exquisite taste of France with a personal touch, all in a quiet, unassuming environment ... Batifole is the place.
First time at Batifole and we were delighted with the attentive service with great food. We shared the House Terrine Board with Chef Pickles & Mustard as our appetizer to start. It was delicious and beautifully presented. We both had the Duck two ways, confit leg & pan seared breast with Calvados sauce and apple confit for our main and it was made perfectly. For dessert we shared the Almond Eclaire with vanilla creme, and plum and prunes coulis and it was delicious as well. Chef/Owner Pascal Geffroy has created a wonderful French restaurant that is not pretentious, has excellent service and excellent food. We can't wait to go back for another great evening and a wonderful meal.
Two friends out for a delicious birthday dinner in a warm and attractive environment. We tried the two different duck dishes which were so delicious. We will come back to try the fish entrees and more. Service was friendly. Location is great (and a lovely surprise) for us locals. Love this neighbourhood gem which has the goods to attract visitors from all over GTA. Merci, Batifole!
Batifole is not a fancy French restaurant with fancy dishes. The food is just simple, but good. I feel I eat in a friend's home. The server always has a lovely smile on her face. She was very helpful and provided good suggestions on both food and wine. We ordered daily special John Dory, and the Flat Iron Steak from the regular menu. Both dishes were delicious. I liked the creamy sauce of the fish. The quality of the steak was good and it was cooked perfectly - real medium rare. The chef, Geffroy, loves to get out from the kitchen to understand what people like or dislike - professional and friendly.
Six of us dined there on a Saturday evening for a special occasion. It was perfect. The food was excellent, and the service could not have been better. It is priced reasonably for the quality of the food, and the wine list is more than adequate. We felt very comfortable there, and we'll go back again and again.
Don't let the location fool you. These people know what they are doing - in the kitchen and in front of the house. Server was well versed in the menu and preparation of all offerings and the food itself was amazing. Nothing could be improved in the way of appetizer, entrée or dessert. Loved it all.
A very charming restaurant with a nice atmosphere, original menu, and a very good selection of wines (not excessive amount of choice: just a nice selection). With fixed prices for all the starters and the mains, the additional costs for sides of vegetables and yummy fries makes it more on the expensive side than we remembered it to be (as most restaurants seem to have become now!). Very good service which makes people feel like real guests for a special meal. Some of the people of our group felt that the food was a bit over-salted.
We had been attending a 4 day meeting with 3,000 other attendees and we needed to get away. We wanted a neighborhood restaurant with excellent food and an atmosphere where the 7 of us could hear each other speak. The man who attended us seemed to be a master of all trades and did a great job.
I brought my husband here for his birthday. We live in the neighbourhood, and had been waiting for a special occasion to try this place out. It was excellent! The server was knowledgeable and friendly, attentive but never overbearing. She gave good suggestions when we were unsure.
We had a warm chicken liver pâté to start, which was lovely and rich. My husband got the steak and I had the duo de canard. Both were fantastic, with just the right combination of flavours. Yummmmmm. For dessert, we shared the caramel and chocolate mousse (sorry, can't remember the exact name). Oh, it was so good! Great selection of wines, too. It was like being in Paris again!
My only criticism is that the music was a bit loud. Overall, a superb restaurant!
Just moved into the neighborhood and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. The reviews fid not disappoint, the good was Delicious, the service very good and both my wife and I said we will be back many times. We also found the cost to be very reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely become regulars
I really wanted to give a good review - the staff were so very nice! Busy Saturday night, took over 20 minutes to get a beverage (not even water). Understaffed-felt bad for the two working. Really good apps. Main of the day fish was not, unfortunately. Poor selection of wines by the glass, but bottles well priced. They were very nice about our rather negative experience. Will give it another chance at some point.
Even though Batifole is out of our neighbourhood, my third visit to this establishment, even given the change in management, was memorable in the best possible way. Four of us, half ordered from the menu, other half from the specials. The specials were exactly that, special. Dessert was topped off with the best souffle I've ever had! Service was excellent, and our server's reccomended off-menu wine choice was the perfect pairing to our meal. If this was closer to our house, we'd be regulars.
Pascal Geffroy has kept the old favourites but added a great selection of new dishes as daily specials with a Provencal flair.
Subtle changes in decor have made the room cosier and warmer
If you haven't been for awhile go back.
A superb French bistro experience.
This excellent restaurant is cozy, comfortable, and relaxed. The food is exceptional and atypical, the chef will come out of the kitchen and visit with the customers. We were not going to have any desert but he paid us a visit to thank us for coming and convinced us that his Peach Melba with his own canned peaches and home made ice cream was worth a try. We ordered it and it was superb. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who wants great French cuisine, in a casual and comfortable establishment.
Best Cassoulet I've had, maybe ever. The cod was perfectly sauced. PommeFrites were excellent. In retrospect, I should've gotten the creme brulle since it probably would've been out of this world, but the chocolate ganache cake on a pool of caramel was wonderful. Service was friendly and helpful.
Our food was great in terms of quality, ingredients and level of cooking. My only complaint was that it was a little salty, but that may just be my own preference. I loved that the chef came by to see how everything was (nice touch).
In terms of service, Ang was wonderful-she was responsive to our needs and very friendly. Our other server (I forget his name) was quite pretentious and condescending, and the only reason we gave the tip we did was because the overall food quality and Ang were very good. This gentleman needs some training in terms of how to welcome guests and he could learn how to smile more.
