Truly a class act. I love this place. Highly recommend it.
I have not experience very close to French restaurant in France in NYC! Thank you!
The service was really bad, it took forever to get even asked if we wanted a drink and the restaurant wasn’t even packed. The foos was good, nothing particularly special. Just a bit of a disappointing experience.
Wonderful dining experience at Batard. Excellent menu and wine options, service seamless and food-scrumptious.
Cold waitress, lacking warmth or a smile, who came back twice in the 1st 5 minutes when we were seated, pressuring us to order. The bread server was much nicer than her.
Overhyped food - average only.
Drinks - average.
Appetizers came 5 minutes after the order was put in. Feel like we were being rushed.
For the $$ charged, expect better food and service.
One of the best services I have had in NYC
This was an excellent dining experience. Each course was spectacular, and the sommelier gave us very good advice on a wine to pair with our foods. We would definitely go back there in the future.
What an amazing evening! Dined here a few months ago with a client from London and he loved it so much he asked to dine there when he was in town this week. We eat at the bar with Kelly (one of the best bartenders in the city) and she created some interesting cocktails for my gin drinking client. They were fun and delicious! And the food...every dish was more delicious than the last. Chef Kevin McGinley can really cook (and was just as nice when he came out to chat with us)! If you love Burgundy wine this is the place for you. You will be amazed at their extensive list at all price ranges. This was a perfect dinner and I plan on being back next week!
Definitely a neighborhood Gem to me. Place is cozy and service excellent. Food was very good, creative and satisfying. Extensive wine list but wine by the glass was great. great find
This is a good restaurant for adult conversation, at least when the place is not crowded, which was the case during our recent visit. (At other times, the lack of carpet and table linens, and the hard walls, make conversation harder than it once was at Corton, its former name.) It's also in a location that, if you go early, allows easy street parking and very quick access to the Holland Tunnel.
This is not a restaurant for one who is really hungry, as except for the entrees, the portions are small. My beef tartare was good enough to finish--I was hungry--but not good enough to order again. By the time the egg yolk was mixed it, the whole thing resembled a stew that was a little runny--good for stew but not tartare. Tortellini in broth was good, though the over-salted portion was, again, inadequate in size.
My striped bass was delicious, served with the tiniest and best-prepared fava beans I had ever eaten, except those prepared by my wife. Her schnitzel was very adequate in size and well-prepared. We skipped dessert, mostly because the choices were not up our alley.
However, the small lemon tarts to bid us farewell were out of this world--worthy of the Parisian lemon tart that I search out when I'm there--with an underlying pastry so flaky and buttery that it ranks as a marvel in the July New York humidity. That tart should be on the dessert list and never leave.
The wine list arguably offers the largest Burgundy selection in the country--and overwhelming even for those whose amateur knowledge is not insignificant. Seeing producers one has never heard of is part of the fun. The half-bottle offerings, however, were modest and so was our sommelier's suggestion.
The highlight of the evening was the service, there when you wanted and never an interruption. And the questions were not the obnoxious, "Is everything delicious?" but instead, "May I get anything for you?"
Two drinks, a half bottle of wine, two 3-courses dinners, tax, and tip: $380.
Very good food and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Staff was friendly. Not pretentious at all.
Our favorite address in New York! The whole experience was fantastic as usual!
We were on vacation in NYC for my wife’s birthday. We decided to try several Michelin star restaurants during our visit. Batard did not disappoint and frankly was a better experience than another similar French cuisine restaurant we tried a few days earlier. We were impressed with the classic dishes such as steak tartare and the duck. Overall the meal was excellent and well-paced. Although we did not try the cheeses, we sat near the cheese station and it appeared that they had a selection of authentic cheeses, at least judging by the smells.
We had a wonderful time with you guys. Food was excellent and the staff perfect.
We'll certainly be back in the future.
Best regards from France.
The service was exceptional: welcoming, professional and attentive.
We celebrated our anniversary and loved every course served. Service was unobtrusive and impeccable (of course - it's Bâtard!). Fantastic oysters too! Enjoy!
The restaurant is noisy enough to make conversation hard. The food was overall very good And the server was great. The plates were beautiful when they came out. Would go again maybe but the noisy atmosphere is difficult
Excellent in every way. It might sound odd to call a $99 prix fixe (4 course) meal a “bargain” but it truly is. Food was original and expertly prepared, and the service was professional and flawless.
Terrrific food and service
Food is outrageous. Art on a plate. Tasted incredible. Setting was beautiful as well. Well with the hype
I traveled from Argentina with the illusion of a great gastronomic experience and Bâtard exceeded my expectations!
The warm atmosphere, recreates a French bistro, the food was and the wine menu was fabulous and I thanks again the chef who personally approached the table to invite us a courtesy dish. Cordiality and glam, excellent combination to enjoy a good time.
It was significant! The food was really good !
Not exciting enough. Practically empty on a Tuesday night made it slightly boring. Food was good but not exciting.
Coincidentally, we feel the same about your review: good, slightly boring, not memorable.
One of the finest restaurants in NYC. The burgundy- centric wine list is a real treat and a great value. Truly inventive cuisine and expert technique makes this our favorite.
Phenomenal, food, service, and ambiance. Well deserved Michelin star.
Top! Will go back...
A near perfect fine dining experience. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was extremely well prepared and delicious.
Great service, great food and BYOB on a Monday is awesome.
I highly recommend the « caille en sarcophage » for those who remember « Babette’s Feast / Festin de Babette) on the menu as pithivier - a veritable « délice »
Amazing meal! Service was excellent and food was delicious all around. We did 4 courses and split the soufflé as our 4th course since we wanted to try everything. With the great portions this was a ton of food and would probably just edit to 3 courses in the future. Absolutely recommend the soufflé though to end the meal.
Intimate dining experience
probably my 5th time at Batard and really like the vibe, service, food and value. Nice selections of wines. Would like to see more American wines however.
Fantastic food and service. Overall it was great experience and will definitely go back.
Excellent service and food was amazing
Service was impeccable, the pastas were a surprise breakout hit, and we were thrilled with our dinner. Will definitely be coming back!
Great location, nice interior, good drinks. Food mediocre, service a bit on the slow side.
Wonderful food, impeccable service.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere.
Exceptionally bad service. Indifferent at best, rude at worst. Very poor pacing. Very poor communication. Very rude at times. Much too loud. Good food though.
