Absolutely fantastic meal. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Very friendly staff and the food was all exquisite! I will definitely be returning!
Favorite spot in the city! Third time here, and not a single complaint.
Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly but professional
We expected it to be very good but it was not just very good, it was outstanding and way above our expectations. The food was expertly prepared: home made tagliatelle with a superb lamb sauce, foie gras cooked to perfection and beautifully presented and the duck was melting in your mouth. Service was lovely, attentive, helpful. I was a bit disappointed with the dessert which was very good but not in the league of the other courses. I cannot wait to go back!
Truly amazing dinner experience. Food, wine, service A+
WOW! Outstanding meal! The food is artfully prepared and also tastes amazing. Very high quality. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and our dinner was really exceptional. Service is perfect and overall an amazing experience in NYC. You must try! Thank you Batard. We will be back! :-)
Food is great!
While Batard was decent, it was really just that. Service was slow and rather inattentive. Some dishes were spectacular and some were abysmal. Both my husband and I were very disappointed with their main dishes, especially since my husband’s was an up charge. We both did the four course meal and was floored by the scallops, the octopus, and the chocolate tart. So 3 dishes out of 8 blew our minds, which is not amazing considering it’s a Michelin restaurant. We went to Manhatta just last month and while it didn’t have a Michelin star, it had overwhelmingly better service and we had a great view and mostly delicious food. I’d go to Manhatta but I wouldn’t come to Batard again unless I’m really craving the scallop, which was actually there best I’ve ever had.
Delicious meal! We loved every course and drinks!
Foil bras amazing! Soufflé best ever! Duck was really tasty
Food was fantastic. Staff was very friendly. Great cocktails. Would definitely come back.
We both had two courses, which were very nice. Scallops were superb! Red Snapper course was good too. Price differential for dessert seemed excessive so we gave it a miss and wines were too expensive but we did find a good French Bordeaux.
No amuse Bouche or canapés served which is expected at this level of dining. Bread nothing special.
Service was too casual for us, and there were insufficient staff serving and so wine was not properly topped up.
Also the food dishes were plonked onto the table with no explanation of ingredients as we would expect. Infact the meals were not consistent as one had fennel but not the other.
I dined here solo two nights in a row while staying at the nearby Sheraton TriBeCa on business. I sat at the bar, as I prefer to do when eating alone. Be aware that while OpenTable doesn’t seem to allow you to book non-bar seating for a solo diner, they are happy to seat singles at a table if desired.
Kelly, the bartender and my primary server for both nights, was wonderful. She helped me explore the cocktail, wine, and spirit offerings of Bâtard with a solid eye toward my preferences and food choices. I really enjoyed getting to know her over the course of two evenings.
The food too was wonderful. Each night I opted for four courses l. Special standouts were the beef tartare (creamy, delicate, beautifully executed) and the composed oyster dish. The oysters may be my favorite I’ve ever had, beautifully cold and already dressed with avocado, peppers, and ginger. They were perfectly briny with the sea coming through even considering the fair amount of accouterments.
The wine list is extensive, with a focus on Burgundy (as the restaurant’s name would suggest). Lots of wonderful stuff at relatively reasonable prices, considering the location and standard markup. However, you’re relatively unlikely to find bottles much under $100.
Some interesting stuff at the bar, including very well-balanced cocktails and a wide selection of eau de vie which made for interesting pairings with dessert (a fig “torte” with quark ice cream that was not too sweet and extremely satisfying).
All in all, a great couple of evenings. I did pay a price ($700 or so in total over two nights, including a bottle of Chablis grand cru), but worth it for a welcome respite from the NYC grind.
When in New York we would never miss a chance to have dinner at Bâtard. Always a great experience. The food, the service, even the music are fantastic!
We will be back as soon as possible.
This was my third time dining at Batard. The food and service are consistently outstanding. This time I dined with a colleague, his first time at the restaurant, who thought it equivalent to a 3-star Michelin in terms of food without the hauteur and pretense of some establishments. We also received great advice from the sommelier who guided us to an delicious but affordable Volany with reasonable age that precisely complemented the fish and meat courses. A real jewel of a restaurant.
Anniversary dinner was a very wonderful experience, there was a happy anniversary card on our table. Waiter was great, we didn’t feel rushed and he did a great job explaining the food and wine selections. Over all was a very nice evening, very easy going feel.
The duck was outstanding! There is good ambience and a beautiful dining room.
Server was not the most attentive. It is good that there is other staff around to pick up the slack.
Wine was delicious, food was great.
Great experience and food was amaizing. Service was great and friendly.
Lugar bien decorado. Menú pretencioso. Pasta pesada y muy salada. Otros platos estaban buenos, no deliciosos. Muy caro para lo que es
Very good to excellent French/Continental food served in an elegant dining room. Specially enjoyed the Citrus-cured Hamachi and the Beef Tartare appetizers. Good, efficient, unpretentious service. Very good wine list with many good bottle options in the $ 70-130 range. Overall, good value for the quality of the food and the dining experience
Four course tasting menu was delicious, portions were a good size, artfully presented. Great wine list and expert advise make for good pairings.
Outstanding service, excellent food, extraordinary wine list. Highly recommend.
I had high expectations, but was let down on everything. The starters were uninspired, salty and poorly portioned (hamachi and zucchini blossom) the main (what should be their specialty - schnitzel) was cover cooked, breading was loose and slightly soggy (plus, the sweat and sour berry spreads for the schnitzel was creative and good, and the only saving grace for true flavor). The dessert, soufflé, was so bad my wife and I left 90% of the loaf sized one note sugar bomb (if you dig to the bottom there are ‘cherries’ there, but they don’t elevate the fish in any way). I was truly disappointed.
A special dinner and the food was delicious. The staff is lovely and patient with an annoying group(us)!
Everything we ate was outstanding. Great experience.
Excellent meal all around! Our group appreciated the opportunity to enjoy fine dining of this caliber in a lovely setting with a more relaxed dress code than other similar establishments. We were thrilled with the wine the sommelier helped us to choose based on our preferences. Every dish was beautifully executed, both in flavor combinations and presentation. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely a fantastic dinner from start to finish including the wine. We asked if the pastry chef could make the souffle for two with peaches instead of the tart cherries and she did - superb! (wonderful pastry chef!) Service was also wonderful, particularly from Jason Jacobeit - the wine director.
Friends anniversary. Excellent food, excellent service. I would highly recommend.
It is so good. The food is perfect for both quality and quantity.
Exceptional experience. We are still talking about the presentation, taste and experience of every dish we sampled. The presentation was outstanding and the food incredible. The staff was welcoming and top self all the way.
Everything thing on the plate was perfectly seasoned & every garnish worked perfectly together to create memorable bites. Highly recommend
Excellent quality, superb presentations, and innovative cuisine. Bravo!
Seated immediately. Did not see server for 20 minutes where he handed menus and poured water. Then server disappeared. We complained to manager and he took drink order. One hour from seating had to get manager to take order. 30 minutes between courses. Server brought check. Terrible service for this class of restaurant. People around us with same complaints. No one asked for second drink. No one checked on us. Won’t be back.
I am sorry your experience fell short of expectiations and for that I will take full responsibility. However, I must take issue with your note, "people around us with the same complaints," which is patently untrue: we had nothing but gracious comments from every table seated in your vicinity. In point of fact, at the table adjacent to you have been regulare guests of ours since we opened. - john
The food was very good
I really liked the food here. The taste is even better than michelin 2 stars restaurant. I am sure I will come again.
Our dinner at Batard was lovely. We went for restaurant week, and the food, from the appetizers to main dishes and dessert, were delicious and beautifully presented. The drinks were great too! Service was terrific. Thank you!
Our evening should have been wonderful. The food was delicious and the restaurant is lovely. We both enjoyed the tasty salmon appy and the well prepared striped bass. The service was good enough but not as personally attentive as we anticipated. The downfall was the horrible noise level. It felt like we were at a dance club on a Saturday night. It was difficult to hear ourselves talk.
This was my first time to Bâtard. I went during restaurant week to see how it matched up to reviews I read. It was wonderful. It's everything I enjoy about a restaurant. A super delicious meal, friendly staff who make you feel special and a warm atmosphere. What I find disappointing in Manhattan restaurants these days are the high price tags on meals that I walk away from saying I could have done a better job making myself. Not here, worth every penny. Thank you.
