Great service and food was amazing. Justin was a fun bartender
Made a reservation, took 15 minutes to get a greet and meet our server. Took another 10-15 for our drinks to come out. Food came out quick and was excellent. Our male server checked up on us maybe once throughout the entire night. Would’ve left the food runner a tip versus our server.
Pretty disappoined with my experience here. Went on a Sunday night, so it was almost empty. The music was too loud inside, service was lackluster and the food was not very good at all (sauce on meatballs and chicken seemed like it was from a can / bottle). Not saying all their food is bad, just what I got. My previous experience was a little better, perhaps because the place was full and I sat on the patio, which is nice.
First plate still cold. Slow service. Ribeye was pretty good. Dessert was terrible.
Here for brunch. Limited menu but great selection. Bountiful servings. We had croque Quixote, huge thick slices of bread with Serrano ham in between, Mornay sauce and 2 fried eggs on top. Also adobo steak and eggs... beautiful presentation of steak sliced avocados, grilled pepper and egg, beans rice.. delicious. Best sangria...$3 at brunch and a great drink served in fresh coconut.
We went there because it was close enough to the Hobby Center to see River Dance based on the online recommendations. I am finding out that Open Table reviews are the pits. Everyone is 4 to 4-1/2 stars or better. Stop being nice. The food - nachos were limp dressed with a jarred / canned cheese and cold - tacos both the chicken and fish were the worst drenched in overlay wet coleslaw The empanadas carne came out of a box or frozen bag. The stuffed bacon wrapped dates were the only decent thing we ate. The only bright spot was the bartender Brittney. Avoid this place because its the pits. Taco Bell is 100% better.
Food was great. The tapas were delicious and came quickly after ordering. The service was a bit spotty. Our server seemed to disappear for long periods of time. We were a large party and I understand that only half of us arrived on time but it took a while to get greeted and order drinks while we waited. We also somehow ended up with a different sever by the end of our meal. We weren't offered any dessert or after dinner drinks, they just dropped the check off without asking. The live latin band was great, I wish I had requested a table closer to them. I will be back because everyone loved the food plus the sangria is great.
Decent spot for Sunday brunch. However, food and service were just ok, nothing spectacular. both could be improved it.
Amazing place, but the food is so expensive for the amount of each portion. Go there, it's a good ambiance, but go with money and not hungry.
We were staying at The Icon and found this gem right across the street! Luckily, they had availability for seating on Valentine's Day and we had a lovely table in the enclosed courtyard. Such a gorgeous setting. The food was delightful! The Lobster Tamale was simply delicious and the Tulum Shrimp was our favorite of the night. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Batanga Mac & Chees. Such an interesting and thoughtfully designed menu. Can't wait for another trip to Houston, as we will definitely be back!
Great food and service! Will be back soon!
Service was very slow. We arrived ten minutes early and were seated immediately, which was great. We ordered the 6 tapas sampler and the first 3 arrived promptly. Approximately 45 minutes after ordering, our server approached and asked how everything was. At this point we informed her that we had yet to receive our final 3 tapas. Not until then were we informed that one was no longer available. Ultimately, it took another 45 minutes to get the rest of our food. We had to get the final tapas to go. Even after asking for the check, it took an additional 20 minutes. Further, our dirty plates were never cleared as the meal progressed. Definitely and experience that was not up to Batanga’s usual standard
Worst service in all of Houston. Actually probably worst service for anywhere in Texas, and I've been to a lot of places. No regard to my table being there, and zero check on us. It took over an hour to get the first tapas plate and then another thirty minutes for those after. Not to mention they brought wrong things out each time too... not sure who even listened. We went for a valentines special and didn't get our dessert and left with such frustration because by then they just wanted to get us out. Will not return, and so sad because I was looking forward to finding a good tapas place in Houston.
I came here valentine's day and did an 8 course tasting menu with my husband for $66 which was fantastic and so well priced. The options were so varied on the menu but everything was so tasty. We were stuffed! Happy hour is great! I'd come back for that alone even if I didn't enjoy the rest of the menu. Tacos for $2, mojitos and wine for $5, and beer for $3.
We were seated very quickly, the server was right there at our table as soon as we sat down to get us drinks. He was very conscious of our needs and clearly has had lot of experience waiting tables. He checked up on us regularly, we never were searching for him. The service was great. Overall, I have nothing bad to say. I loved it! sorry to hear others didn't have the same experience as we did. We came on the same night as some others who wrote a negative review and it's odd that we had such opposite experiences. If you're on the fence about booking a table for the evening, I would suggest giving it a shot. If you end up having the same experience we did, I'm sure you'd love it too :)
Loved the place, the singer, maybe a bit loud, but it was ok because they were on break often. Food was very good and service was great. I couldn’t believe that the waiter was able to give us individual bills although it was a table of 13. Will return for sure.
We went to Batanga after a Houston Rocket's win. The outside patio is the most amazing location with the best ambiance. We tried several different tapas: The duck confit pot pie was my absolute favorite. My husband enjoyed the empanadas. Would definitely go back.
The food was wonderful. The waitress was very helpful in offering suggestions and answered all of our questions knowledgeably.
Lobster bisque was phenomenal!!
Had a wonderful time at Batanga. Marshall was our server and he did a great job of taking care of us. He was attentive without hovering. The food was great. We had about 12 different dishes and the only one that didn't meet our expectations was the mac and cheese. Had it before and it was outstanding but was pretty blah this time. My favorite was the bacon wrapped dates. Yum!
Awesome food at a good price. We had the lobster bisque, lamb ribs, and bacon wrapped figs. Spent $40, had an awesome meal and wished we had gone back instead of another place with less awesome food for $90. Seriously one of the best resturaunts I've ever been to.
Tapas were good but the service needs work. I will go back to try my favorite tapas.
The food was great! The ambiance was nice and cozy. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive. We loved all the food choices and the taste was delicious. We left just when the live music was starting and the group playing was very good.
Have been here before but enjoyed this time more than previous visits. Tasty food, good service and better cocktails. Plus love music on Saturday night, good stuff!
Good service but food took a long time to come out
Awesome food and atmosphere!!!!!
Service was spot on!!! Live music was wonderful, but, the volume of the mics made it difficult to continue our table’s conversation.
New Years Eve at Batanga was fantastic--nice people, exceptional wait staff, great food and drink!
My friend and I dined at Batanga on a Wednesday night right before a theater show. So it was not very crowded at 6pm. Food was delicious and came out very quickly. We ate and drank well with their happy hour menu.
It was nice, the food was expensive for us for the quantity they serve. The music was awesome, great to chill and listen with friends and have a few drinks.
Every time we are downtown we make it a point to go for tapas. It was our son's birthday and so we went there since he is a vegan and I am a vegetarian as there was plenty for us to eat. Fabulous!!!!
Food was delicious & service was great with a great ambiance
First we got there the hostess looked overwhelmed and disorganized! We get seated it took 20 minutes for somebody to come to our table and the fact was after I ask somebody for some assistance. We ask for drinks the waiter comes back that they are out of michelob ultra. Ok I ask for coke he brings me Dr. pepper . Then we order our food one was from the chef special which was the the “ the lobster tamale”. A few minutes later he comes back and said they run out of the item. This is a Saturday night you know you have to be stocked with your menu items. But either way it was a fair tasting food and made the best of it!
The atmosphere & setting was amazing. The food was good but waited an hour to get it & was the last of the party to eat. Service sucked. Our waiter only came back after we were done eating to let us know there was a rush & if we wanted to order more. Then my boyfriend had to go find her inside to ask where was my plate.
Went to celebrate a colleague after our original reservations at SpindleTop didn’t work out and turned out to be a great night!
We really enjoyed our mid week dinner at Batanga. The atmosphere was nice and the weather was perfect for sitting out on the patio. Our waiter was great and provided great service. We ordered off the happy hour menu which gave us tons of yummy tacos and drinks! We will definitely be back.
Great food, great patio, nice ambiance, eclectic music and atmosphere. The patio got really busy. When this happens the servers are really scattered out. All in all we had a good experience.
Recently dined here after about a year from our last visit. A group of us had a less than stellar experience. The hosts seemed confused how and where to seat people, (they even incorrectly reported us as "no shows" on Open Table), so that gives you an idea of what hoes on here. Table service was poor, my wife had to get up from the table to order and pay for another glass of wine at the bar, as our waiter frequently disappeared. Then our entree arrived about 30min after our friends food arrived, making for an awkward dining experience, especially when they've almost finished eating. I asked the manager what the issue was, and if part of the order was forgotten, and his reply was "a lot of tables arrived". Clearly not the place to go on a weekend night, as they have neither the staff nor the organization to handle any sort of crowd. The redeeming qualities were the band, and the crispy pig ears. Aside from that, poor service and average food. Likely won't return.
Too many flies!!!
We spend a Beautiful night at the patio with friends. The food was delicious
After making a reservation, I got there to find the restaurant CLOSED. There was a note on the door saying they were sorry for any inconvenience. This is the second time this has happened. I like the place, but wouldn't count on making a reservation meaning they would actually be open.
We were visiting Houston for a quilt show, and when I searched through open table to find somewhere to eat this place caught our eye.
The service from the get go was friendly personable and informative. We were the first table there and one of only maybe 2 or 3 reservations for a Wednesday. So we have the undivided attention of our server. He did great.
On to food: we ordered the 8 plate option because we couldn't decide.
So here goes:
The mac and cheese (we added lobster) probably not worth the splurge when said and done it was just OK. Lacked flavor, though the lobster was very prevelant it overpowered the flavor of any cheese. And it lacked spices.
The meat sticks: if I could remember the name I'd tell you, sorry. Those were amazing, the aoili was good.
Hummus and pita: fantastic. The pita chips could have been less... Chewy?!(tough? But still, flavor wise , amazing)
The quail on quail was tied for best with the red snapper ceviche, both knocked our socks off. The plantain mash was deceivingly delicious, the BBQ sauce was perfect. Not too sweet, not too spicy.
The ceviche was perfectly seasoned, had a strong lime flavor, and not over powering on the onion. The fish was fresh, so my mom who hates fish, she loved it!! Not fishy AT ALL could have almost been chicken... Or... Something but, you get my point.
We had some lamb meatballs: They were good, but not great. Might just be me though. I don't like ground lamb much. The sauce could have used some salt, or other seasonings.
I can't remember if I am missing anything. But if you go, go early to get ahead of dinner crowd, and get the quail on quail and the red Snapper ceviche! And a size of hummus. we left stuffed!!!
Thank you to our server who went above and beyond to try and figure out bus routes for us. You know who you are. And I'm sorry I can't remember your name.
But you made the experience that much better!!!
