Before closing the food was the best
Food was ok, had the small paella and meat empanadas ...best part was the mojito
Quality of facilities and ambiance is outstanding, particularly with live music. The particular band was highly skilled, played music appropriate to the setting and created the experience.
The menu was changed from tapas to not many choices. My vegetarian husband did not have many options so it was disappointing. They had closed the patio and then they opened it soon after we were seated. They did not offer to move us.
The menu has changed and we decided to check it out. With a party of 4 indoors during happy hour, the cocktail were so so ( too much ice) and found out there were no more HH small bites... ? What? It's a restaurant. not a bar. OK., so now we see a very tasty looking menu. But, the waiter informs us that the meals each of us ordered will be coming out at different times. Huh? So, I asked him to make sure they came out together and keep them under a heat lamp. Well they arrived together, but my wife's plate, which was recommended scallops, was cold and way too salty too eat. Returned... Mine, squid, tasty but cold. My friends, whole fish, hot and fabulous, his wife's chicken hot, perfect. So... what happened. You either order a plate and share or you allow you guests to each while you watch. Or, get back to making Tapas and serving them hot.
Great work for only being open 2 weeks. The server Joachim was very attentive and funny.
Food was great, especially the fish. They just seemed understaffed and the band took almost an hour break at prime time Saturday night which I thought was strange
Our drinks took over an hour to arrive and the food as well the music was good but service was terrible I’m never going back
Terrible service. Waited for a table for 10 minutes even that I made a reservation. Them seated for 20 minutes before a waitress came to the table. ended up leaving without ordering. These use to be a great place to go, visited weekly before the pandemic- but I was let down on my last visit. Will not be going back any time soon.
They must have been understaffed. Orders took a long time to get. I had to go order from the bar myself. Had three drinks before the waiter came with our original order.
They weren’t prepared for my arrival even tho I made the reservation a week in advance so I got stuck with a small patio table in the corner for my anniversary night. They also never once mentioned happy anniversary or anything which seems odd considering the reservation asked if we were celebrating anything. The food was amazing and our server was very nice.
Really poor service. Drinks took forever and they completely forgot our second round. Table not cleared of used glasses and plates. Everyone seemed overwhelmed. I understand they just opened back up recently so I will give them the benefit of the doubt this time. Nice place. Food was good. Music was great.
Our food was delivered at completely different times. We were here celebrating my brothers birthday and he received his food last. The food tasted very good but everything got cold and we couldn’t enjoy dinner together. They were understaffed so it wasn’t the servers fault who actually was very nice. But we never got our drink order and refills in water either.
Although I spoke to the manager and he apologized nothing was done to alíviate or wait. They didn’t offer dessert either. The place has potential but unfortunately is poorly managed
Ordered empanadas, salad, grilled shrimp well prepared.
Service was bad, I think the waiter needed a bunch of training.
Loved the music, it was on the patio. We were inside as it was chilly, they had doors open and it was still pretty loud (& a very good Latin band).
Batanga is a setting that transports you to a wonderful night in Cuba.
Food was overpriced and awful. Server was overwhelmed and service was slow. They weren’t read for reopening
Amazing! Great food, great staff!! Will be going back
The new menu is amazing! Definitely a place I need no excuse to go to! Always tasty
Great spot for a brunch, happy hour or dinner!
One of the best places to eat in downtown Houston
The waiter and food was delicious. The only bad part was the outside heater kept going out. All in all amazing restaurant!
The wait staff seemed distracted and overwhelmed although the crowd was modest. The server forgot to turn in portions of the order. The appetizers were brought after the entree. The food was quite ordinary.
I hate to review after only one meal but I can’t imagine sitting through a second.
Christmas event downtown.
We had a wonderful time at Batanga! The paella was very good and the service was excellent!
Amazing food at a good price. The kitchen staff was not wearing masks while preparing the food, but servers were masked and the food was delicious!
Notice venue. Good service and decent food.
Had a fantastic experience tonight. Waited at the bar for the rest of our party to arrive and the bartenders were fantastic on suggesting drinks. Once seated at our table started ordering and the food came out quick, hot and fresh. All the flavors were well ballanced. The deserts were disappointing but would not stop us from coming back.
Went here to brunch with a few friends. The patio was beautiful and the food was great!! Would definitely return! :)
Terrible service -- honestly the worst I've had in Houston after living downtown 4 years now. Waited 15 minutes for our waiter after being seated and asking hostess to send someone, and waiter was just out of it and awful after he finally arrived. Food wasn't great or even good (except for empanadas) so just a bad dining experience.
Flies! Flies! Flies! As soon as the waiter brought our food, flies landed on it. Pour a glass of Sangria, horsefly landed in your glass and sat there. We poured two of our five glasses out due to flies. Waitress appeared new but was not. She forgot to place order for the carafe, bring glasses for the carafe, forgot to bring mineral water we ordered. You name it, she missed it. 2021 has to be a better year for this downtown gem?!
In spite of lots of great reviews, it was Surprisingly disappointing food. Empanadas didn’t Taste fresh or made by hand. (Maybe Costco reheated??)Service was mediocre. Lots of people there, but most of downtown is shut down due to Covid so maybe that’s why they were busy. Incredible atmosphere though. Nice ambiance
We weren’t able to eat outside because the tables weren’t big enough for 5 people. We waited 30 minutes to get only one plate of food and waited another 15 to get our second plate. One of the orders was not made correctly and the server never came by to check on our table or give refills, but we were the only ones inside. My mother in law didn’t even receive her plate of chicken wings and we had already been there for an hour. Best part of this restaurant is walking out the door. 1 star because the restaurant itself was still very well decorated.
Enjoy this time with my friends, good food, local and service.
If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. I made a res for my boyfriends birthday on 11/8 and the "host" which was actually the manager was not friendly at all. They sat us at a dark table on the patio when there were 2 well lit tables that would accommodate my party so we asked to be moved. We then order the batanga mac & cheese, the tuna w/ watermelon, bacon wrapped stuffed quail and the small paella. Where do I begin.. Their soda machine went out so I couldn't get a refill, the food took forever to get and she never mentioned there was a 15-20 min wait on the quail when it actually took 35 mins.. The mac & cheese tasted like fritos pie & the tuna was bad. It took our waitress with the green/blue stripe in her hair (whenever she decided to check on us) 20 mins to get my boyfriends drink which was Woodford Reserve on the rocks, how hard is that? Not to mention they were also out of The Big Casino cocktail after she recommended it to us. When my bf’s mom & brother met us, our waitress didn't ask them their drink order we had to stop her after she made about 4 rounds to check on other people. We then get the small paella an HOUR later to get 2/3 filled mussels with NO SHRIMP. Why? "They were out" along with everything else and our waitress didn't mention that to us. They tried to make up for it by giving us 3 mussels which were also 2/3 filled and FISHY! Through this whole dining experience we had to get up to ask where our food was, also had to get up to take plates & silverware from another table AND had to get up TWICE to speak with their rude manager who never came to our table after all the complaints. It was like after we asked where our food was our waitress just stopped waiting on us all together, another waitress was checking on us. I go inside to their manager who acted like she didn't see me standing at the bar when there is no inside dining to request for the meal to be removed from the bill. Not once did the manager check on us. HORRIBLE.
Everything was well spaced out on the patio; I felt safe eating there. Food was great as always.
Wonderful food, atmosphere, vibe and drinks! so so great. only thing that bothered me was that hosts were a little bit annoying with questioning if all of my guests i made reservations for would show multiple times. They showed and all was good, I just didn’t love how pushy and doubtful the hosts were when i made a reservation in advance. other than that all was amazing and great!
Drinks were good. The small plates were delicious but the paella was forgettable with undercooked rice and being under season. Salt goes a long way.
We were 7 out of about 20 people in the whole place for brunch. Waited 20 minutes before being acknowledged by the waitress. It took another 15 minutes just to get sodas/coffee. We never received any refills. We were given cocktail napkins when we asked for extras. Glasses and appetizer plates were dirty. Waitress dumped hot sauce all over my daughter and her new dress. First 2 plates came out, a full 7 minutes went by before next 3 came out, then finally 15 minutes after the first, the last 2 people in our party got their food. It was a special occasion for our family and friends. Frankly, I was embarrassed, as I made the reservation. The service was terrible. The food was decent, but not good enough to go back for awful service. Don't be fooled by the fancy website and menus. We would not recommend this place due to the dirty dishes and very poor service. Lots of employees milling around, but none were concerned about customer service.
Food and drinks were great - I highly recommend the sangria and the macaroni and cheese. However, service was slow and it was a little alarming how many cups and dishes we had to ask to be replaced because they had lipstick on the rim or food still caked on the plate.
Food was no better than a fast food place. The server's mask was covering mouth but exposed nose.
The service was terrible. It took us 15 minutes to get our drinks and for the waitress to come around so we could just order. I finally caught her attention to order and, when I said we were ready, she disappeared for another 5 mins and then came back with our drinks and took our order. The food came out fast but it was very subpar. We ordered the Bacon wrapped dates-they were completely over cooked, meatballs-these were the most decent thing on the menu and I still felt like they tasted like something out of the freezer section, Brazilian cheese rolls with guava- the bread was so chewy, we couldn’t even finish half of one, and mac&cheese with chorizo- the sauce was so runny and you could barely taste the chorizo. The drinks were overly sweet. The only good thing about this place is the patio area...it was super cute out there.
The food is just as good as everyone says.
On that note, the service is just as bad as everyone says, if not worse. 30 minutes for our waitress to bring one water pitcher, and another hour for her to bring my coffee (with no cream or sugar I might add. Tack on another 30 minutes for that to get filled).
I won’t be returning, which is a shame because the food was quite good.
