One of the best places to eat in downtown Houston
The waiter and food was delicious. The only bad part was the outside heater kept going out. All in all amazing restaurant!
The wait staff seemed distracted and overwhelmed although the crowd was modest. The server forgot to turn in portions of the order. The appetizers were brought after the entree. The food was quite ordinary.
I hate to review after only one meal but I can’t imagine sitting through a second.
Christmas event downtown.
We had a wonderful time at Batanga! The paella was very good and the service was excellent!
Amazing food at a good price. The kitchen staff was not wearing masks while preparing the food, but servers were masked and the food was delicious!
Notice venue. Good service and decent food.
Had a fantastic experience tonight. Waited at the bar for the rest of our party to arrive and the bartenders were fantastic on suggesting drinks. Once seated at our table started ordering and the food came out quick, hot and fresh. All the flavors were well ballanced. The deserts were disappointing but would not stop us from coming back.
Went here to brunch with a few friends. The patio was beautiful and the food was great!! Would definitely return! :)
Terrible service -- honestly the worst I've had in Houston after living downtown 4 years now. Waited 15 minutes for our waiter after being seated and asking hostess to send someone, and waiter was just out of it and awful after he finally arrived. Food wasn't great or even good (except for empanadas) so just a bad dining experience.
Flies! Flies! Flies! As soon as the waiter brought our food, flies landed on it. Pour a glass of Sangria, horsefly landed in your glass and sat there. We poured two of our five glasses out due to flies. Waitress appeared new but was not. She forgot to place order for the carafe, bring glasses for the carafe, forgot to bring mineral water we ordered. You name it, she missed it. 2021 has to be a better year for this downtown gem?!
In spite of lots of great reviews, it was Surprisingly disappointing food. Empanadas didn’t Taste fresh or made by hand. (Maybe Costco reheated??)Service was mediocre. Lots of people there, but most of downtown is shut down due to Covid so maybe that’s why they were busy. Incredible atmosphere though. Nice ambiance
We weren’t able to eat outside because the tables weren’t big enough for 5 people. We waited 30 minutes to get only one plate of food and waited another 15 to get our second plate. One of the orders was not made correctly and the server never came by to check on our table or give refills, but we were the only ones inside. My mother in law didn’t even receive her plate of chicken wings and we had already been there for an hour. Best part of this restaurant is walking out the door. 1 star because the restaurant itself was still very well decorated.
Enjoy this time with my friends, good food, local and service.
If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. I made a res for my boyfriends birthday on 11/8 and the "host" which was actually the manager was not friendly at all. They sat us at a dark table on the patio when there were 2 well lit tables that would accommodate my party so we asked to be moved. We then order the batanga mac & cheese, the tuna w/ watermelon, bacon wrapped stuffed quail and the small paella. Where do I begin.. Their soda machine went out so I couldn't get a refill, the food took forever to get and she never mentioned there was a 15-20 min wait on the quail when it actually took 35 mins.. The mac & cheese tasted like fritos pie & the tuna was bad. It took our waitress with the green/blue stripe in her hair (whenever she decided to check on us) 20 mins to get my boyfriends drink which was Woodford Reserve on the rocks, how hard is that? Not to mention they were also out of The Big Casino cocktail after she recommended it to us. When my bf’s mom & brother met us, our waitress didn't ask them their drink order we had to stop her after she made about 4 rounds to check on other people. We then get the small paella an HOUR later to get 2/3 filled mussels with NO SHRIMP. Why? "They were out" along with everything else and our waitress didn't mention that to us. They tried to make up for it by giving us 3 mussels which were also 2/3 filled and FISHY! Through this whole dining experience we had to get up to ask where our food was, also had to get up to take plates & silverware from another table AND had to get up TWICE to speak with their rude manager who never came to our table after all the complaints. It was like after we asked where our food was our waitress just stopped waiting on us all together, another waitress was checking on us. I go inside to their manager who acted like she didn't see me standing at the bar when there is no inside dining to request for the meal to be removed from the bill. Not once did the manager check on us. HORRIBLE.
Everything was well spaced out on the patio; I felt safe eating there. Food was great as always.
Wonderful food, atmosphere, vibe and drinks! so so great. only thing that bothered me was that hosts were a little bit annoying with questioning if all of my guests i made reservations for would show multiple times. They showed and all was good, I just didn’t love how pushy and doubtful the hosts were when i made a reservation in advance. other than that all was amazing and great!
Drinks were good. The small plates were delicious but the paella was forgettable with undercooked rice and being under season. Salt goes a long way.
We were 7 out of about 20 people in the whole place for brunch. Waited 20 minutes before being acknowledged by the waitress. It took another 15 minutes just to get sodas/coffee. We never received any refills. We were given cocktail napkins when we asked for extras. Glasses and appetizer plates were dirty. Waitress dumped hot sauce all over my daughter and her new dress. First 2 plates came out, a full 7 minutes went by before next 3 came out, then finally 15 minutes after the first, the last 2 people in our party got their food. It was a special occasion for our family and friends. Frankly, I was embarrassed, as I made the reservation. The service was terrible. The food was decent, but not good enough to go back for awful service. Don't be fooled by the fancy website and menus. We would not recommend this place due to the dirty dishes and very poor service. Lots of employees milling around, but none were concerned about customer service.
Food and drinks were great - I highly recommend the sangria and the macaroni and cheese. However, service was slow and it was a little alarming how many cups and dishes we had to ask to be replaced because they had lipstick on the rim or food still caked on the plate.
Food was no better than a fast food place. The server's mask was covering mouth but exposed nose.
The service was terrible. It took us 15 minutes to get our drinks and for the waitress to come around so we could just order. I finally caught her attention to order and, when I said we were ready, she disappeared for another 5 mins and then came back with our drinks and took our order. The food came out fast but it was very subpar. We ordered the Bacon wrapped dates-they were completely over cooked, meatballs-these were the most decent thing on the menu and I still felt like they tasted like something out of the freezer section, Brazilian cheese rolls with guava- the bread was so chewy, we couldn’t even finish half of one, and mac&cheese with chorizo- the sauce was so runny and you could barely taste the chorizo. The drinks were overly sweet. The only good thing about this place is the patio area...it was super cute out there.
The food is just as good as everyone says.
On that note, the service is just as bad as everyone says, if not worse. 30 minutes for our waitress to bring one water pitcher, and another hour for her to bring my coffee (with no cream or sugar I might add. Tack on another 30 minutes for that to get filled).
I won’t be returning, which is a shame because the food was quite good.
Food was mediocre at best, not particularly flavorful, not many vegan or vegetarian options. Service was sub-par. There are far better restaurants in Houston.
We were seated and waited 40 minutes before someone from my party finally got up to look for a waiter. We waited because we were trying to be mindful of possible under staffing. Once our order was taken the food came out promptly. Our waiter checked on us a total of 3 times in the 3 hours we were there. We had a total of 2 drinks due to the wait time between being checked on. Once we asked for the birthday cake we brought it wasn’t brought out for 30 minutes and asking two different people. The waiter twice and someone who seemed to be a manager on duty. There was no sense of urgency from the staff and no apology for the wait. If communication was better from staff I’m sure patrons wouldn’t mind waiting but there wasn’t any. Once I talked to other friends who have been to batanga they all had similar experiences. Food was good but def not worth the wait and poor service. If it wasn’t for my friends positive attitude to a bad experience it would’ve ruined my birthday. I will not be returning.
This place never disappoints! They are consistently great with their food and service. We had a blast sampling everything but the dates are still my all time favorite.
Made a reservation and wasn't seated for ~40mins. The location was cute and the vibe was very trendy and up-to-date. Would recommend to a friend, just disappointed in the wait time even though I had a reservation.
Disappointed.....food was just ok
I had high hopes for this place. I’m always looking for places that have specials for Taco Tuesday. I noticed on their website that they would be having what was was called “That 70s Taco Night”. It was to feature old school family-style hard shell tacos. It’s hard to find good hard shell tacos these day as most places only offer the soft shells. I made a reservation through Open Table thinking it being a special night I wanted to make sure we had a table. We got and the dining room was empty at 7pm. We were seated on the patio. When the server arrived I said we came for “That 70s Taco Night”. He looked at us as we were crazy and said to scan the QR code on the table to view the menu. He was not very attentive and when asked about items on the menu he didn’t have much knowledge of the items. I settled on the Adobo Chicken Tacos. They ended up being street tacos. The flavor was very plain. I have had better tacos from a food truck.
Had the 3 course restaurant week special. First course, I had the bacon covered dates and my wife had the salad. Both were delicious. The paella and tres leche courses were mediocre. The paella was greasy and lacked fragance and flavor (where was the saffron?). The tres leche was like sponge cake covered with icing that smacked a little of whipped cream.
Sat outside in courtyard. Nice vibe and pleasant latino jazz music in background.
Wait staff seemed a little hectic and distracted. One of them mentioned about spending a lot of time in the hospital, apparently caring for a love one.
Great food in a unique venue :). We will be back soon
We were a bit disappointed with our experience tonight. The menu has changed from the last time we visited, and we weren't very impressed with the food. The hostesses weren't very friendly and the service was slow (not the kitchen! they were moving and grooving) - we didn't have drinks other than water for around 30 minutes - and both a drink and meal order we placed were unavailable. It was my boyfriend's birthday, and we were trying to do something special, which I get no one knew, but I would've hoped to have been treated better in general. So overall, it was just a subpar experience considering what we were hoping for.
Great to have one of my favorite spots open again.
Overall the place is super chic and cute to have drinks and take pics but the food honestly wasn't good at all the paella was pretty gross and they took forever to get our drinks and food.
Disappointed. Had heard a lot about this place before COVID so wanted to try when they reopened. One word to describe our experience is dissapointment. While service was ok, but the food left much to be desired.
Ordered mushroom croquette, paella, and flan. Mushroom croquette was way too salty. All you can taste was salt and nothing else. The rice in the Paella was not cooked through. The flavor was tomatoey, which was not what we remember authentic Paella taste like. Then flan was too dense and hard. One of my friends who loves flan said she was surprised it was harder than what typical flan should be.
Another thing was they seated us at a smaller table, and I asked to see if we could move to a bigger table, the manager said no, that the bigger table would be used for another large party later. Even by the time we left, I did not see the so said party.
Will not be back.
One or worse experience in a restaurant
This restaurant is 0
My food was incomplete
I waited 45 minutes for my drinks and when they arrived were wrong
I talked with the manager and he mistake with my order too
Server was terrible sorry but she was confused all time
I left without not dinner
I wasn’t the only one 4 more tables left
Please don’t waste your time in this restaurant
I am not sure if they had kinks due to just opening but the service was slow. Took forever to get drinks and food and 2 dishes never came. The paella was undercooked.
We had the absolute worst experience for my wife's birthday.
Loved the place and the service!! Definitely coming back !
