With capacity for up to 430 guests, we are a very popular spot for corporate events, holiday parties, and private buyouts. Our interior capacity is 215, and we can accommodate another 215 on our 3,600 bricked patio, the largest in downtown Houston.
Batanga Ratings and Reviews
First we got there the hostess looked overwhelmed and disorganized! We get seated it took 20 minutes for somebody to come to our table and the fact was after I ask somebody for some assistance. We ask for drinks the waiter comes back that they are out of michelob ultra. Ok I ask for coke he brings me Dr. pepper . Then we order our food one was from the chef special which was the the “ the lobster tamale”. A few minutes later he comes back and said they run out of the item. This is a Saturday night you know you have to be stocked with your menu items. But either way it was a fair tasting food and made the best of it!
The atmosphere & setting was amazing. The food was good but waited an hour to get it & was the last of the party to eat. Service sucked. Our waiter only came back after we were done eating to let us know there was a rush & if we wanted to order more. Then my boyfriend had to go find her inside to ask where was my plate.
We really enjoyed our mid week dinner at Batanga. The atmosphere was nice and the weather was perfect for sitting out on the patio. Our waiter was great and provided great service. We ordered off the happy hour menu which gave us tons of yummy tacos and drinks! We will definitely be back.
Recently dined here after about a year from our last visit. A group of us had a less than stellar experience. The hosts seemed confused how and where to seat people, (they even incorrectly reported us as "no shows" on Open Table), so that gives you an idea of what hoes on here. Table service was poor, my wife had to get up from the table to order and pay for another glass of wine at the bar, as our waiter frequently disappeared. Then our entree arrived about 30min after our friends food arrived, making for an awkward dining experience, especially when they've almost finished eating. I asked the manager what the issue was, and if part of the order was forgotten, and his reply was "a lot of tables arrived". Clearly not the place to go on a weekend night, as they have neither the staff nor the organization to handle any sort of crowd. The redeeming qualities were the band, and the crispy pig ears. Aside from that, poor service and average food. Likely won't return.
After making a reservation, I got there to find the restaurant CLOSED. There was a note on the door saying they were sorry for any inconvenience. This is the second time this has happened. I like the place, but wouldn't count on making a reservation meaning they would actually be open.
We were visiting Houston for a quilt show, and when I searched through open table to find somewhere to eat this place caught our eye.
The service from the get go was friendly personable and informative. We were the first table there and one of only maybe 2 or 3 reservations for a Wednesday. So we have the undivided attention of our server. He did great.
On to food: we ordered the 8 plate option because we couldn't decide.
So here goes:
The mac and cheese (we added lobster) probably not worth the splurge when said and done it was just OK. Lacked flavor, though the lobster was very prevelant it overpowered the flavor of any cheese. And it lacked spices.
The meat sticks: if I could remember the name I'd tell you, sorry. Those were amazing, the aoili was good.
Hummus and pita: fantastic. The pita chips could have been less... Chewy?!(tough? But still, flavor wise , amazing)
The quail on quail was tied for best with the red snapper ceviche, both knocked our socks off. The plantain mash was deceivingly delicious, the BBQ sauce was perfect. Not too sweet, not too spicy.
The ceviche was perfectly seasoned, had a strong lime flavor, and not over powering on the onion. The fish was fresh, so my mom who hates fish, she loved it!! Not fishy AT ALL could have almost been chicken... Or... Something but, you get my point.
We had some lamb meatballs: They were good, but not great. Might just be me though. I don't like ground lamb much. The sauce could have used some salt, or other seasonings.
I can't remember if I am missing anything. But if you go, go early to get ahead of dinner crowd, and get the quail on quail and the red Snapper ceviche! And a size of hummus. we left stuffed!!!

The food was okay it could have been better and a little pricy for not that much. Also the waiter, I forgot her name was rude and was giving attitude when we tried to explain to her that are total check was like 60 something but we were gonna round it up to 80 so she would be able to keep the change. Which was like 12 dollars or more. That, I did not like.
The Food at brunch is very tasty and drinks were great. Restaurant wasn’t busy at all but the food took a while coming out. Oh well, no biggie.
The lobster bisque shooters are the best!!! Everything is great but the portions seem to be getting smaller each time I go. Not a great value but delicious anyway
We are recent empty nesters and have not gone out much until now because of the kids. We were walking around the downtown area and ran into the restaurant. Loved to be able to sit outside and not die from the heat. Food was great. Ambiance was nice, a little in the noisy side, but not too bad. We'll definitely go back! Maybe come with friends next time. The only thing I did not like was that they were not taking walkins (even though they were not busy). So I had to go online right then and make the reservation through opentable. Waste of time!
Wonderful meal with friends! Great service. The only note is that they told us the paella was a good portion for 2 people, so we ordered 2 orders for a table for 6. Literally didn't touch one of the paella and the 6 of us each had seconds. at $46 that was a huge hiccup! Its a tapas restaruant, management should take that into consideration when suggesting quantities. Dates, cheese bread, poke, barbacoa tacos, baked avocado - all terrific. Pineapple mojito was special as was the prickly pear Marg.
We went to Batangas for my managers birthday and it was perfect! I picked it as it was the only place that was easily able to accommodate a party of 16. We went on a Friday and the band started playing about 8:30/9. It was a wonderful lively experience. The service and surroundings took our party to a new level.
I’ve been to batanga before but probably was my last time there. For once it’s a Thursday and I don’t want to know how things are now during the weekend if one half of our table didn’t get food!!!! And then when we saw the server and complained 30 plus minutes after that we didn’t get their food we decided to cancel. We were ready to go and asked for our checks and they were wrong! and took forever and then when we gave her our credit cards she took 30 plus minutes to check us out and even when to go find her and we just wanted to leave. We told the managers and he was no help at all. He didn’t do anything. The food is great but the service was horrible. I don’t think I want to go back for a very long time and give it a chance again.
Made a reservation days in advance reserving a table on the patio as we wanted to enjoy the weather. Drove 35 minutes to get there, paid to park and upon arrival was told that the patio would not be available to us. Someone could have told us that well in advance. We left and won’t be back. Not recommended.
Service was slow partly because there were so many large parties. We were not in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal really. The drink orders could have been faster so that we weren't so restless, and I don't think the speed of drinks can solely be blamed on the bar but both the bar and waitstaff. We love sitting outside on the patio, the inside dining area can get rather loud. Overall an God experience and we would go back for another date night.
fun stop for a light dinner. Small plates so I picked a few things to try. The Nacho Batanga were great, loaded with queso and jalapenos and a good smattering of crispy beef.
The duck confit pot pie was another excellent choice., a perfect blend of peas, carrots, duck in a savory cream sauce.
The smoked pork belly was the only disappointment. The beans were a bit salty and the pork was under whelming. Guess I am real used to the crispy style but the smoke didn't come through and didn't work for me.
overall a pleasant experience with exceptional service from the wait staff.
We made reservations through Open Table and arrived on time to be told by the hostess they didn't have a table for us. I asked, "Even for reservations?" She told us if we wanted to sit outside, they could accomodate us. It's hotter than seven hells in Houston right now, so that wasn't an option for us. She then told me I should have indicated on my reservations that I wanted indoor seating, and then gestured at the crowd and asked if I could see how busy they were. I told her that wasn't an option on Open Table or I would have selected it. My husband stepped in and said we would be leaving and a table magically became available. We waited almost 20 minutes after being seated and never saw a server. We left. Highly disappointed! We will not be returning or recommending.
Our first visit. We were introduced to Tapas menu in Spain and enjoyed and decided to give Batanga a try. There are many choices and a large variety. Even for picky eaters, there is something for everyone. The pricing is very reasonable and the atmosphere is very upbeat and casual. A large patio if the weather is good. Service was very attentive.
Was at Batanga for Restaurant Weeks. A member of out party didn't receive her appetizer until she was almost finished with her entree. Our server was great, however, it seemed as though the kitchen was overwhelmed and the 'vibe' of the entire restaurant felt chaotic. The live music was so loud that we couldn't talk to our party without yelling.
Food portions we're larger than expected, yet a bit over priced. Sticking to the restaurant weeks menu and only having one drinks each, our bill was over $100.00.
We will not be back.
I was pretty excited about the restaurant. Food was good, not amazing. I guess I have pretty high expectations for tapas. Feel like you should pack a ton of flavor in a smaller plate. Like I said, good food, would recommend, not great.
Side note: band was awesome and like the decor
