Dodd was ok as was the service. Nothing that would blow you away or necessitate a trip back to the area just to to eat there. The patio is nice but can be unbearable loud if more than three tables are out there
Hostess is extremely rude. They don’t really honor open table reservations and should be taken off. When we got there said that people had made reservations before us and as a result wouldn’t get a good table even though the outside was pretty empty. Don’t come here go somewhere else.
Calamari is HALF a small plate with a lot of full head/tentacles pieces. Great flavor but not a fan of the large full pieces. Spring roll just plain from freezer box and heat. Thumbs down on them. Fish tacos are good. Beet salad great. Skirt steak good. All portions are small.
What a fun place!! Patio dining on a beautiful spring evening was awesome! Service was relaxed, friendly and helpful in giving excellent suggestions as to what to order. All our food was tasty...but the grilled avocado was the BEST!! Bottles of wine are half price on Sunday...great deal!!! Looking forward to returning here soon!!
Great food, great patio & affordable. The paella is to die for.
The manager was awesome
The service was slow and inattentive, but the food definitely made up for it. Our table of 6 enjoyed everything that came to the table. There was nothing we didn't like as far as food and drink! Tables are very tightly packed together and it's very noisy. One of the employees lied to our party saying that the valet had gone home before 1AM and suggested we uber home even though we were told that the valet was there until 3AM. After speaking to the manager, he kindly helped us find the valet guy who promptly brought our car.
Don’t bother coming here, really not worth it. Not sure where all the good reviews are coming from, as many other tables also looked dissatisfied with service.
Also, please note they allow smoking in the courtyard outside and a lot of people take advantage of it. We didn’t know this before hand, and there was no notice on their website or Open Table. There were three people smoking around us throughout the meal.
During the meal, the service was terrible. Our waiter was on his phone for 15 min after we ordered drinks and were waiting to order appetizers. After the appetizers came, no one brought us utensils. He stayed on his phone consistently throughout our meal, never offered us refills on our drinks, and we had to wait 20 min after every plate we ordered before he came to us again. This is bad for a tapas bar. I had to go to the front desk to get the silverware for our table. The restaurant wasn’t even busy, he was legit just sitting on his phone. Please look at the photos for evidence.
His name is Earlis and these are three pictures of him taken at various points throughout the meal.
The skirt steak skewers aren’t worth it at all. You get three small pieces of skirt steak with no seasoning and a small bit of salsa.
If you happen to try this place anyway, the mojitos, the pao de quejo, and the plantains are good. The decor is neat. Sit inside if you don’t like smoke.
We had a wonderful time. Some of the tapas were a bit pricey, but not for downtown, I guess. Our server was very friendly and pretty attentive, but the food service was a little slow, especially since it wasn't that crowded.
It was a birthday celebration but the service was poor and to expensive
please be aware the Valet Parking is not in any way part ( Batanga) the restaurant so after dinner we explored Downtown Houston and we came back to the restaurant at 2 AM to find the Valet Closed. I called the number listed on the ticket and was no answer .If possible do not Valet at the restaurant.
Valet across the street @ the hotel is much nicer there friendly staff.
For a person in a mobility scooter, the bathroom was a little difficult to maneuver. Upon entry to the bathroom their were chairs interfering with the entry space. I had to move the chairs to even get in. Once in the bathroom space there was a large bench that continued to interfered with getting to the stall. The bench actually got caught on my scooter.
Great patio for a first date or to get cozy all over again.
My water had something in it
We had a reservation at 5:30, we arrived early and got seated. After being served our food and drinks our waiter comes over at around 6 pm and asked us if we could move tables to accommodate a larger group. I asked the waiter if that group has a reservation because we had one at 5:30 and he said...yes, im not sure why they sat yall here. First, I have NEVER been asked to move tables after being served our food to accommodate a large group. Second, its not my problem that we were sat where we were. There were plenty of open tables, this was early in the evening. Thankfully we were almost done with our food an just asked for the check since we felt like we were being pushed out. I wish we could have enjoyed the restaurant more but after we were asked to move to accommodate another part we were very put off.
Loved the patio and loved the tapas! First time to visit and wondering why we haven’t tried it sooner. Will definitely be back.
I had guests in town and took them to dinner for the 1st time at Batanga. The ambiance was nice however it took about 40 minutes for us to even be served a water. The waitress was no where to be found and the hostess gave us the water. We had to place our drink order with said hostess who then forgot about us as well. when the waitress did finally show up almost 55 minutes after we were seated, she took our order. Our food was served quickly and we still had yet to receive the 3 (bottled) beers we ordered. I had to get up and ask hostess and waitress again (3rd time was the charm). Other tables were being served timely so I am not sure if same experience for others. Food and music were good but just doubt I will go back because the restaurant was not busy and the service was horrible.
Great food. Great service. Friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Wasn’t packed and enjoyed a tasty, peaceful meal with my friends.
Had a 2:30 reservation for 2 people. Was seated by friendly host on the patio at a table by the gated door. We moved to another table since ours was not shaded and right above our heads was a very loud fan. The table was still dirty but we sat anyways not wanting to lose it. About 5 waiters walked past not one stopping to offer to clean the table, or even take our order. We stayed for about 30 minutes before deciding to walk out. I’ve never experienced such terrible service in my life. Completely ignored! Tables that were sat indoors after us were receiving food yet we had not even had a drink order taken. We are very well paying customers and left with a very disappointing experience.
Food was mediocre. Ambiance is nice, music is a bit too loud. Drinks were good. I would go again for happy hour, maybe not for dinner or lunch
Food was amazing. Ambiance was great. Sitting outdoors was the way to go. You can listen to the live music, but still be able to have a conversation. Our server was great at the beginning, but at the end we had to ask for him to order dessert or to get our check. Woman’s Restroom needed cleaning in one stall. I asked one of the employees if they could attend to it but it was not done. Overall a good experience and will go back.
We always enjoy Batanga sitting on the patio... not so much inside because of the noise level. The food and service were excellent... very good value, too.
Waitstaff was great. Food great
Receptionist was not nice. Short female When asked if we could move our patio table a little more under the lights. She chewed us out for not making reservations earlier
Food was ok, not abundant or notable but service was good and there was live music.
Orlando was our waiter and was very nice and attentive. Loved the band that was playing on Saturday. We requested a table by the band and we got it.
We had fun!
Batanga was amazing. The food was great as well as their service. We enjoyed our time here and would definitely recommend to others.
Great food, great service, fun atmosphere. The only mild complaint was there was a lot of noise and it was difficult to have conversations with the music was playing!
It is all about expectations. I expected a restaurant and nice food. I got expensive food that was more to accompany drink than to have dinner, so I do not think I will visit you guys again.
It may be okay if you have drinks directly at the bar and do not have a large table that needs to split checks.
Was disappointed. Expected a bigger and more vibrant crowd for happy hour. The wine featured for happy hour was average and the food was just average.
Waitress was MIA for most of the meal and forgot to take multiple peoples orders. She was also not communicative.
the food was good, the service excellent. just that inside the restaurant sometimes is too loudly. but everthing is good
Batanga is a beautiful place, and its food is so delicious.
Great tapas and not overpriced. Great mojitos. Fun restaurant for date night.
Nice choice of very interesting Tapas, well described and well done. It could be because it was Sunday night, but the noise was low and the music relaxing and at the right level.
Great atmosphere, good food and tasty mimosas. Overall a nice brunch for a Sunday morning.
Very nice and relaxing but yet entertaining. The portion of food you receive is the right amount, no leftovers.
Took 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our server after being seated.
Potatoes were very undercooked in the parmesan potatoes.
There was shell in the scallop dish.
The lobster bisque was extremely salty.
Waiter was very quiet and we couldn't hear what he was saying.
Valet outside was excellent.
Ambiance was very nice.
Everything was delicious but the scallops were the best. Melt in your mouth.
