Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

We do not offer any outdoor seating. Private dining, kitchen counter and large party seating available. Email hello@batatucson.com for inquiries.

We went for an anniversary. It was a fun and tasty adventure. I read reviews prior to our visit and must say we took home three doggie bags because we were full. The food was delicious! We will be back!

Bata is absolutely delicious. Our server was very attentive and guided us through an “unusual” menu where you should look to order multiple items as a tapas inspired menu versus thinking this is a typical appetizer/main course/desert. This is a great date night restaurant as the menu items are meant for sharing and each item we had was delicious. There is nothing inherently “bad” about the atmosphere/ambiance. It’s very open and has somewhat of an industrial feel. As a couple enjoying a date night however, we were sat in a “shared” booth that had a line of tables meant for multiple couples. This takes away some of the privacy you might want to look for with your significant other as you can hear other table conversations easily.

We thought the menu showed a lot of creativity. The food was well-prepared and delicious. The ingredients were very fresh. However, the pricing is outrageously high. And we were even charged an extra $3 for a tortilla that should have been included with their carnitas dish.

Our first time and they made our anniversary very special. Curious format and staff executed service extremely well. FAQ should update parking situation. Valet parking was available (not mentioned) and welcome for folks unfamiliar to the area.

I recently dined at BATA (a group of 6), and while there were aspects of my visit that I enjoyed, there were also some disappointments. Here's my review: Our server was friendly, and she made sure we felt comfortable throughout our meal. Her recommendations were on point, enhancing our overall experience. The service truly stood out as a positive aspect of our visit. However, they delivered the order to the wrong party and did not make up for it in the "right" way. The food at BATA was well-prepared and presented with great attention to detail. The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, and the flavors were generally outstanding. Unfortunately, our dining experience took a significant hit due to the wine service. We had looked forward to pairing our meal with a nice bottle of wine, but to our dismay, the wine list was limited, and many of the bottles we were interested in were unavailable. This was a letdown for BATA's reputation. Furthermore, the wine we finally ordered arrived at the wrong temperature. It was served too warm, which significantly affected its taste and overall enjoyment. Properly storing and serving wine is crucial for a restaurant aiming for excellence, and this oversight was disappointing and surprising. Overall Experience: While the service and food were strong points of our dining experience at BATA, the lack of available wine options and the mishandling of the wine's temperature left us with mixed feelings. The overall experience could have been greatly improved with a more comprehensive wine selection and better attention to wine service.

We are so disappointed that they stopped doing the special printed-out menus for people with special dietary needs! My partner is vegan, and we have regularly gone to this place for celebrations because it always felt special to be handed a menu of great food they can eat. This time, were told that the chef has changed the policy in the last week because he wanted customers to interact more with their servers. What actually happened is that our server had been given absolutely no information about vegan options and was stumbling to guess what we might be able to order. She was trying her best; she was an excellent server and we do not blame her at all. But she had to go back and forth several times to ask the kitchen questions about ingredients and possible substitutions. This took so long that we didn’t have any food on our table until nearly an hour after we arrived. It was frustrating and it felt like everything that made this place so special was gone. We felt like lab rats for a crappy new policy. We also really wish that we had been told when we made the reservation that this had changed. I added a note to the reservation saying one of us is vegan (which we have done before several times, so that the kitchen could prepare a vegan menu). It felt to us like this restaurant essentially is no longer catering to vegans or others with a special diet, and that they should let customers know this.

From the service, to the food, atmosphere, drinks, even dessert. We live in Phoenix and look forward to coming back again…. And we hope one day you’d maybe open a restaurant in the Valley! Thank you for a spectacular evening! You have a great restaurant business going. Cheers!

Went to Barta for my mom‘s birthday. We loved their special touch acknowledging her birthday, and were excited to try out a new place in Tucson. Great location, but parking is terrible. Service was amazing but food was underwhelming, overpriced and very small portions even for a tapas menu. Cocktails were delicious sparse. They are still new, so I’m sure they’re going to work out the kinks. We may try them again next time we’re in town.

I find myself thinking of my first visit to BATA often. Their menu runs from the humble and simple to the elegant and avant-garde. We had savory fermented potato bread, aged beef and pork bites, crispy squash blossoms with sweetened garum, the platonic form of carnitas, and pork belly. I have no problem writing this review weeks later because the flavors and concepts at BATA will stay with you long after you leave. As long as you are open to trying new things and understand that each person should order 2-3 dishes, you will be impressed.

This is an incredible restaurant! Still thinking about it! We are from Napa and used to really good food and this place is just off the charts. Potato bread with salt, perfect tomatoes, fall squash, halibut. So fresh and perfectly done. Nice wines too. Don’t miss this spot!

Good for small plates in a nice atmosphere. Most of the dishes we ordered were great although some plates were trying to wow too much with the ingredients and lacked on the delivery. The drinks were solid as well. I would recommend BATA for cocktails and some appetizers but this is the second time I've ordered a fish as a main and it was overcooked. Don't know how you can justify charging $44 for a small 4 oz piece of halibut and have it be overcooked. It should be perfect for that price. We don't live in a coastal city where this pricing could be justified. And if you are going to charge that much in Tucson, it should be outstanding.

Another great evening at Bata. Highlights of our dinner were the beef tartare, the shrimp & scallop stuffed squash blossoms, and the plum tomatoes. Overall, most of the dishes were outstanding, and the service provided by Grace was top notch. If you enjoy tapas style dining with lots of shared plates, Bata is a great option. Highly Recommend.

Last night we dined at BATA and chose the prix fixe tasting menu at the “kitchen counter”. EVERYTHING was Fabulous. Sous Chef Jackson, was amazing. He explained the concept of the restaurant as well as each dish. Cyrus was our bartender, and was extremely attentive and very professional. He selected wines that paired perfectly with each dish. The manager, Courtney, was so helpful in setting up this special night. The restaurant was full and the staff was on top of their game. This was without a doubt one of our TOP 3 dining experiences. Thanks for making our Anniversary so special! We will be back!

For the price points, the dishes were not spectacular. The menu was an odd selection meant to be tapas. I didn’t get the philosophy of the menu. New American x Southwestern? If the latter was part of the goal, commit to it. The tartar lacked acidity—somewhat bland. The heavy russet potatoes with trout roe was good but what did the roe add? The potatoes and gravy overpowered the dish (it felt like an outlier). The crudo was very good. The polenta tasted like a bowl of wintergreen gum. That confused us. Perhaps we are spoiled by the restaurant scene in Chicago? The interior space is very lovely — we left thinking that it could be better if perhaps they hired a good consultant. The service was great.

Bite size style not tapas style. Cocktails were delicious. Stick with the vegetables dishes. The proteins were overcooked and salty. Chef needs to tailor both knowing the foods are bite sized. Staff said the food would be coursed and pair properly. Our proteins were brought to our table 2 minutes after placing the order and the vegetables 10 minutes later. The restaurant concept is there but not the execution. Left starving. I hate a bag of popcorn and a left over fish taco from Trident Grill. That hit the spot.
