Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

We do not offer any outdoor seating. Private dining, kitchen counter and large party seating available. Email hello@batatucson.com for inquiries.

We shared 5 dishes, each special in their own way, and super delicious! Each dish was full of complex flavor and delight. Though you may think at first glance that you might leave hungry, so not true! Sharing the food and eating slowly catches up with you and we left feeling full and very satisfied.

The experience was wonderful overall. Food was creative and interesting with good service. The Yukon potato dish had the wrong ratio of potato to mushroom and would have benefited with more mushrooms and sauce. The collard greens were not a great base for the yummy carrots. It didn’t compliment the sweetness of the carrots. The duck offal tart, beef cheek, butternut squash and tartare were yummy. The malawach was outstanding!

Dined with BATA in celebration for my 40th. Was unsure of what to expect but wow were we pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed some exceptional cocktails and our server Abby was an absolute pleasure. She guided us through our experience as first time diners at the restaurant and we truly enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered. The beef cheek skewers were delicious and so savory. The tuna crudo was bright and refreshing. The butternut squash was a surprising delight with delicious smoky flavors and a good bit of heat from jalapeños. The deconstructed s’more plated with a dark chocolate “Happy Birthday” was unexpected and a lovely treat to end the meal on. All that being said, it is really more of an experience than just a meal and that experience comes with a price. Highly recommend for special occasions.

The malawach and lebneh dish was delicious as was the grilled mushrooms. The deconstructed s’mores was also very good. The seared albacore had very little taste. The biggest issue is with the amount of food. It is just criminal how small the servings are in relation to the price. For example, the grilled mushrooms consists of 3 mushrooms, a handful of kale, and a few sunchokes for $22. If it was more of a salad with abundant greens, mushrooms, and sunchokes, it would be well worth $22. The seared albacore was 4 half-dollar sized pieces for $18. You can get twice the amount of the same, grade tuna as sashimi in any good Japanese restaurant. It’s crazy to spend $65 and leave a restaurant hungry.

The food here is creative and vegetable forward. Portions, though they call them "tapas", are very small. They encourage sharing, but there is very little to share. Each small plate runs around $13-18, and it takes at least three to put any substance in your body (and I'm not a big eater). The ambiance is cool, very "warehouse trendy", and service was good, but for the price? I'll skip it next time.

Amazing food. Tapas in size, a bit pricy, but worth it! Every dish we had, 6 to share was spectacular! The flavors and inventiveness of the combinations of ingredients was sublime.

Was somewhat let down with Bata. We had expected more of a tapa menu rather than small dishes and larger dishes, most of which weren't really shareable. The meat skewer was tasty, even though a little dense; the beef tartare was unusual, but good. My companion's halibut was cold -- was it meant to be served cold? But it was cooked properly and seasoned well. The mushrooms were cooked inconsistently: some were tough. I had the apple puff pastry for dessert. Again, it was served cold. Heat would have made it a five-star dish. We were a tad disappointed in the wine list. Bata advertises locally sourced products; they have no Arizona wines at all. All and all, if you're looking for a unique dining experience, Bata probably would fit the bill.

Good server (although he had an annoying habit of using "we" instead of "you".) He tried very hard to be perfect and was very personable. GREAT food--just excellent! And the wine was wonderful too. It's just that the portions were small and the prices were Huge. Even the wonderful wine was only a short pour. They said to "share" but there wasn't enough to go around. It just suggested chintzi-ness when it shouldn't have. If the portions and prices were in balance, I woukd have given 5 stars overall vs 3. Now we knew the portions would be small but didn't realize how expensive they were! We spent $400 on dinner for 4 people--& we were Still Hungry when we left!

I thought the food was good a little salty and the portions were very small for the price . I understand the shared plates concept but the portions were more like a single course in a 10 course tasting menu. For what we spent it was disappointing to leave still hungry . I would probably not come back. Our server was great.

Bata has a unique take on dinner. Small plates are what is served along with excellent wait staff. You are encouraged to order 2 to 3 plates to share per person. The fermented warm potato buns are awesome. We also ordered a thin tortilla-like cracker (forgot the name of it) that was served with a yogurt dip topped with an unusual tasting purple sauce. I didn't care for the purple sauce. I also ordered the grilled cabbage which was topped with a white creamy rich flavorful sauce. This was enough for two people to share. A nice side dish. My root vegetable skewer on grains was probably my least favorite dish, and I did convey this to my server. The roasted vegetable skewer was scant, and the corn that was mixed with the grains and broth wasn't the least bit sweet. A large helping of raw chopped red onion was mixed in the tasteless broth, and just overpowered everything. Could not finish it. At $20 for this dish, I did not find it a value. My non-alcoholic drink with N/A tequila was refreshing at $10 price point. Atmosphere is modern and table size was adequate to hold all the dishes that are brought to you. It's pricey, but again unique vegetable focused menu with some meat and fish dishes to choose from. This visit was not quite as appealing as our first, but since the menu changes frequently, we may return again to see what's new.

The food was delicious and unique, love the ambiance. We had a bday party for a friend and we all loved the food, little too noisy to visit, our service was very good, helpful with menu choice. We went to BataBar after we were going to have dessert and a drink, but the server never came to our table, he was too busy visiting with another table, we left and went somewhere else for dessert and Prosecco.

This was the best meal we've had in forever! The wait staff, the kitchen organization, the front staff, everybody was friendly, efficient, and well-trained to provide an exceptional dining experience. Dishes were described well; dietary needs were accommodated; and the meal was not served too quickly, so that we could dine instead of stuff our faces. Every dish we got was better than the last one. Can't wait to go here again.

Bravo, well done! Thought I’d have to be in SF, NY or Europe for this type of dining experience. Modern culinary concepts (locally sourced, think Noma; several vegetable-based dishes) superbly executed. Our dinners were simply delicious. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A wine expert dining with me thought the selections were well chosen considering the menu. Thank you, Chef Fenton, for enhancing the sophistication of Tucson’s food scene.
