Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

We do not offer any outdoor seating. Private dining, kitchen counter and large party seating available. Email hello@batatucson.com for inquiries.

My husband and I were so excited to try Bata. The atmosphere is nice and the service was good. The concept of sharing several small plates of interesting new dishes sounded promising, but we were extremely disappointed in every dish we tried. The tiny little kafta sausage was one bite with a sauce that was not good. The greasy flatbread was ok but the sour yogurt type spread with pickled egg yolk that came with it was just gross. The squash was inedible with a disturbing smokey, meaty tasting sauce. We sent that one back. The beets had circular can marks on them and tasted just like beets from the can with nothing added. We were absolutely starving after all of these dishes and looking forward to our protein dishes. The halibut was ok tasting. The little steak serving at $54 was chewy flank steak I think, with a bland sauce. Honestly, the dishes ranged from terrible to just OK. For the extremely high prices and tiny portions, the food should have been well executed but it just wasn’t. I agree with all the reviewers saying that they are trying too hard to be cutting edge and exciting but the flavor combinations and overall taste is really pretty bad. Our server was nice and we didn’t want to say anything after we sent the squash back but I think she could tell we didn’t enjoy our meal. It seems like instead of constantly changing the odd menu they should focus on creating a few excellent dishes and just stick with them. I would not come back at those prices, it’s just not worth it.

Refreshing style of dining for Tucson. Upscale, progressive feel as soon as you walk in. Friendly faces and grace meet you as you arrive. The menu is simple and full of delicious choices. We were stunned by the flavor and execution of each small plate. Among the outstanding choices: grilled mushrooms, chicken breast, carrots, and the rolls. OMG the rolls are great. Dessert selections were limited but awesome. Bread pudding and Sorbet were our choices. So flavorful. This is a nice go-to spot in downtown Tucson. Attention to detail is what makes the difference in this restaurant. Delicious.

Oliver was our waiter. He was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The timing of the meal was perfect. Each item arrived at the right time. We were able to dine and enjoy our conversation throughout the meal. The perfect thing about Bata is that you always leave looking forward to the next visit when you can try new menu choices.

We had an absolute blast at dinner: Mezcal Paloma cocktails, 8-9 different dishes with Grenache wine, and dessert. Service and food was impeccable.
