Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

Great ambiance. Modern and simple but elegant. We had 2 bottles of wine and cocktails. Every item we ordered was delicious. Went for a friends birthday with 4 people and it was a perfect evening. Definitely recommend!

We had some appetizers and wine which were excellent. Somehow our main order was never submitted so we focused to leave. It was just a mistake and they covered everything that we did order. This restaurant was excellent and we will come back when we are back in town.

The food was disappointing. We ordered 9 different dishes, and they all were lacking something. The sunchoke dish was undercooked. The mushroom dish had good flavor, but the mushrooms were too hard to chew. The shrimp toast has no flavor. Also, there are only two nonalcoholic beverages offered: water and a house made soda. No tea or juices.

Where is the Bata I remember? I’m sorry to say that there was a same mess to all of the entrées that left me feeling forelorn and uninspired. The food was also over salted, especially the shrimp toasts, and the mushroom skewers. Where was that brilliant wait staff that introduced themselves and made strong suggestions on what would work for dinner? I’m hoping this was just an off night for you because I do believe you are a Tucson gem.

Very nice experience! Our favorites were the beef tartare, duck leg carnitas, and the shrimp toast. The portions are indeed very tiny even for the supposedly bigger dishes they had, but the quality was amazing. I only have a picture of an albacore dish for reference. Service was also attentive and kind. May try to go back every now and then to check out the new menu!

Creatively prepared, wonderfully surprising and delicious dishes for sharing. Skeptics beware because you will love everything (or at a minimum, be surprised). We had a family group with an age range of 8 to 73 and everyone - I repeat everyone - had a wonderful time sampling the food and drink. We love Bata!

Bata is coming of age! Prices holding, portions no longer comically small unless identified as bites for one (a nice option that is also sized larger than before). Food and its presentation was always exceptional for Tucson, but experimental combinations seem more tested and successful. Excellent cocktails. Desserts the weakest link. Now putting Bata in regular rotation of local upscale options that are well worth it.

I have mixed feelings about the food. The pork was a little soggy per my husband (who is a bbq judge) but otherwise flavorful. My vegan roasted root veggie dish was okay. The veggies were too smoked, meaning that the taste was a little bitter and the smokiness overpowered the other flavors. The grains sprinkled on top added to the dryness. I’d recommend more sauce. The hibiscus sorbet was okay. I didn’t think the flavor was different from fruit sorbets I have bought from the store. We did enjoy the atmosphere and the service was impeccable. I like the concept of not having a menu online and how it changes every day.

If you haven't been to this restaurant. I definitely recommend. I took my girlfriend for her anniversary date, the food and service were amazing. The way they have there are menu set up is for you to be able to try multiple things. So the portions aren't that big. Me and my girlfriend chose 2 appetizers and 3 main courses that we shared, and that was perfect for the both of us, and we still had a bit of room for dessert. Also one thing i'd like the mention is there. Many is constantly changing. You might try something 1 week and the following week they have a different item on the menu.

The service was the worst! We had planned to order dessert but we had been there for two and a half hours before the last dish arrived, so were sick of waiting and the noisy atmosphere. We brought a 38-year old French visitor who agreed with us that our waitress was incompetent. We are sorry and embarrassed we brought a houseguest there. It will be a long time before we return (if we do at all!)

Went there for a date night, both of us loved it! It is very pricey, and the portions are regular portions, not American portions. So don’t go there, expecting a full belly, but is definitely an experience you must try! We really enjoyed it, highly recommend for a great date night.

Server refused to discuss menu with us until she had put in and delivered drink order, so we were sitting for 10-15 minutes unable to even plan our meal. Server said style was "family style" but then each dish was delivered separately, with around 10 minutes between dishes, so we had a few root vegetables to eat; then after a wait, some other thing, etc. Each dish was "announced" by a different person, eg "we have here eggplant prepared in X style and served with Y sauce" as if it were some remarkable phenomenon and not just part of a meal out. During the waits between dishes, the server would relentlessly ask if we wanted more drinks. Some of the food was good enough, some -- like the ricotta/tomato "tart" was not. That appetizer was just a lump of cold ricotta on the thinnest, hardest crust that just shattered when touched. As for ambience etc: Some of the music was so loud that conversation was difficult even though the restaurant was less than half full. Seating is primarily at large round tables which means you are too near other tables, and too far (4 feet?) from some of your dining companions. We are glad we tried this restaurant on a random night and didn't save it for a special occasion, since we all found it very disappointing.

Wonderfully prepared food in a really nice space. But we were disappointed that each of the four small plates that we ordered as entrées were served individually, with a bit of a wait between dishes even though we were one of the first seated in our section. Some of them would have been really wonderful to combine, for example the roasted root vegetables or roasted eggplant with the carnitas. Our starter (flatbread with labne) was one of our favorite dishes.

It was perfect for a fancy date night. If you want an elegant dinner to splurge a bit- go here! The whole restaurant was low lighting except for the warm lights on tables that were occupied. This made it feel very private for me and my fiancé. We also love to dress formal on occasion and this was the perfect fit for not feeling overdressed! The food was outstanding, everything you would picture for a luxury dining experience (so keep in mind that the portions are small). I personally thought the pricing was incredible for how amazing the menu items and ambiance were. There is also an underground cocktail bar if you want the same experience for just drinks and snacks! The server was so professional and kind, I really can’t recommend this restaurant enough!!

The best we've found in Tucson to date, since moving here from Northern CA in June. Such a relief to find this outstanding restaurant. We have been so disappointed in the Tucson food scene, especially since the city is hyped as some sort of gastronomic nirvana. But Bata is the real deal. Locally sourced meat and vegetables. Excellent preparation. Attentive wait staff who know food. In short, we have found our "go to" spot in Tucson!

We've been to BATA several times. Great food, very unusual offerings. Staff and ambiance is also great. Had many different courses in our group. Most were quite good. A couple ones didn't appeal to us as much, but we view that as part of their process of experimenting widely. Recommend this as a pricey, but unique offering. We will return.

Worst meal I’ve had in a very long time. Appetizers were fine; main courses weren’t cooked properly and totally skimped on ingredients. When we told our server the dishes were undercooked & inedible, he simply said that the kitchen was busy and they must not have taken time to cook the dishes properly.
