About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

We do not offer any outdoor seating. Private dining, kitchen counter and large party seating available. Email hello@batatucson.com for inquiries.

I was seated right away as a single diner at the bar. There was a space next to each grouping of bar settings so you weren’t crowded. The service was excellent and especially knowledgeable. I chose the tasting menu and each dish was so unique and delicious. The wine list by bottle was generous, with multiple price ranges. The wine list by the glass list was fairly small but still had a good range. I was celebrating my birthday and the staff made my dinner very special. The portions were large enough and I especially enjoyed the trout in buerre blanc.

Great space, delicious food. Server was a bit abrupt and rude which kept it from being excellent - hopefully a one-off. Would recommend.

Our server was great. We chose the option where the restaurant picks the menu for our table of 6. The items that they served were mostly not on the evenings menu. We all chose to be adventurous and the meal was magnificent!

Some of the best and unique food I’ve tasted in Tucson. You won’t like it if you’re expecting a plain ‘ol hamburger and fries. Ingredients on this menu are carefully selected—fresh halibut flown in overnight from the Oregon coast or from small, local farmers. Great details throughout, service is friendly, easy going, and professional. I will definitely return and bring friends.

I had such an incredible experience at BATA. I got to try a good mix of menu items and honestly, every single one blew me away. The beef tartare was next level and the carrot cake was insane—truly one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. My server, Rory, was amazing—so kind and attentive—and Rox behind the bar made some of the best cocktails I’ve had in Tucson. You can really tell how much care and talent goes into everything here, from the food to the service. Can’t wait to come back.

We love Bata and decided to try the Let your chef choose the menu option. Great idea! There were 5 of us, and we loved not knowing what was coming. Every dish was delicious as usual, but the surprise added a little extra zest.

A couple dishes were great. Our primary server was great and knowledgeable about wine. The problem was that after a lot of discussion on wine choices, they were sold out of both bottles. We were offered wines we were told were discounted-but both were significantly more expensive than the wines originally decided upon. Once I could understand. Twice? Felt like a bait and switch. The other servers expediting food consistently served dishes without serving utensils. This is supposed to be a shareable experience. Stemware was left on the table when we were clearly done with it. On one hand I see great care and forethought. On the other, a lack of execution. The mushroom skewers were strikingly bad. Wish that it was better.
