Service was slow and we had to ask our waitress for the same items multiple times. The food selection was very limited because it was Mother’s Day but the food we did get was mediocre.
This was my second visit to the restaurant and I had a positive experience the first time so I decided to bring two other friends this time. Too many things went wrong though that evening that I would not feel comfortable or excited about recommending the place. It wasn’t even a problem that could be blamed on to one person. My friend’s Champagne was flat, wrong food arrived, a juicy steak was served on a small wooden board, and other foods were ok at best. I enjoyed my cocktails however and the ambiance. The location is great but the staff and kitchen needs some help.

Great drinks before hand, food was great, reasonably priced. The wine list is good, but I was really searching for something under $50. We shared a great seafood platter of shrimp and oysters, then steak frites and shared a desert. Great evening. Service was really good. Bathrooms are a hike 2 flights of stairs, but that's the only issue with the place.

Another wonderful experience at this restaurant! My wife and I joined 4 other friends for dinner over Easter weekend to catch up, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I was particularly impressed with my steak. We had had steak dinner about 2 weeks before this experience, at one of the best rated (albeit cliché) steakhouses in Boston and had a very disappointing experience based on quality. I had the 10oz ribeye and frites at Bastille; I also prefer my steaks black and blue rare, and Bastille did not disappoint at all, in fact they got it perfect. My steak with the parmesan truffle fries was far superior than the experience I had 2 weeks prior and significantly less money. My wife had the duck, which was equally wonderful and flavorful.
The only other point I would make is the quality and value of the wine. One of my greatest aggravations with dining out is being fully aware of the astronomical mark up's on rather mediocre wines. Bastille offers a very modest, yet well thought and diverse wine list, at surprisingly reasonable prices.
We were greeted with a blank stare as we ascended the stairs and approached the hostess. I prompted her with my name and reservation and she looked uncertain. It was very awkward and someone did come over to seat us. As we entered the dining area, the staff was huddled at the bar and gave us a perfunctory hello. It did not feel welcoming since we arrived. The music was awful and I felt like I was in the teen section of Macy's...thankfully our waiter did turn it down a level so we didn't have to shout across the table. It was still loud but not ear-splitting. Our waiter was terrific and his attentiveness was apparent and he was gracious in taking care of us (had to ask for our side of vegetables which came out when our meal was nearly finished). The food was excellent. I am not sure I would recommend, however, given the lackluster service and the annoying background music.
Dined at Bastille Kitchen on a Friday night. Greeting and service were great. Server gave us the time to enjoy the first drinks and apps and didn't rush us to order our mains. The pork belly flatbread appetizer was fantastic. The cocktails were consistently high quality all night. Recommended for an enjoyable night out where you want to savor your meal and the ambience. Be aware that at 10PM sharp (on a Friday at least) the bar downstairs starts playing music pretty loud. It didn't bother us but sharing in case it's relevant for others.
I went to Bastille Kitchen for a business dinner and we both enjoyed the attentive service from our waiter Phil. He also recommended a very nice wine to go with our meal. We had the fromage & charcuterie appetizer and deviled eggs to start. Then moved on to the Bastille Burger which comes with amazing truffle fries and some shrimp cocktail. Everything was delicious. It was midweek so it wasn't too congested or noisy. I would definitely recommend it and return again!
It was very noisy - they had some else’s birthday celebration at the bar right near our table which was very loud with lots of people and they were hosting a wedding in the basement. We could hear the wedding music at our table .

The Duck was tough on bottom,over cooked!! Nice setting with good service.Creme Brule was not the best, it was less creamy. Dont know if I would try again.
I'd go back for drinks, but the food just isn't that good here. This was my second time at Bastille and I quickly remembered why I hadn't gone back in so long. We got the steak frites and duck. For a french restaurant, you'd expect the steak frites to be excellent, but it was chewy and not tender whatsoever and came with soggy fries. The duck was decent, but nothing to rave about. The endive salad wasn't flavorful. The best part of the meal was the french onion soup and the drinks. For a close to $200 tab, it just wasn't worth it. I wish we just went back to Gaslight or some of the other solid french restaurants in the city that are consistent. I'd go back for drinks, but I wouldn't eat here again. You'll leave disappointed that you spent $175-$250 on just an ok meal (those prices includes alcohol).
As a vegan diner, Bastille stands out as one of the very few Boston restaurants that offer a true composed vegan entree that is comparable in culinary sophistication as their other entrees. The latest vegan offering is a Moroccan style roasted cauliflower which is one of the best I have had ever. I hope this dish stays on the menu, but in the meanwhile I cannot highly recommend Bastille enough for their catering to vegans, they are one of a very small handful of restaurants in Boston (I do not include any of the multitude of fast food options ) that do so, and Bastille is a true stand out! Excellent service also!

My wife and I had a wonderful evening at Bastille Kitchen last Friday. It was her birthday and we enjoyed the evening with friends and family. The staff at Bastille Kitchen was very attentive to our needs, including addressing allergies and special requests. The wait staff was quick to make recommendations for cocktails, wine and food, and even provided a special after dinner drink to one of us who was unable to eat dessert due to a food allergy. The food was delicious and the drinks menu was ample and appreciated.
The ambiance was wonderful- noise levels were fine, despite the restaurant filling up steadily as the evening continued. At no point did we struggle to carry a conversation, or ever feel the need to 'track down' a server- we were very well cared for. My compliments to the entire staff on a wonderful evening. We will definitely return and would be happy to recommend to friends/family.

I thought the ambiance was great, but I wish they played different music. It sounded like they had the top ten radio hits on. Kinda of a bummer. I would expect a place like that to be a little more original. The food was good, nothing crazy. The drinks were nothing insane. I liked the experience though.
Everything was wonderful from the moment we entered the restaurant. The smell of the food as you entered really did feel like entering someone’s kitchen while cooking. It was Dine Out Boston Week and The food was amazing. I had the the Boston Bib lettuce salad and seared salmon with risotto. My sister had the French Onion soup (she said it was the best she’s ever had) and the steak (also the best). Desert was creme Brûlée and Chocolate layer cake, both were on point. Definitely will be returning for more exploration of their regular menu.
Restaurant was busy with Boston Dine Out and servers seemed distracted. Had a great mocktail which was fun but server never checked in on us and screwed up dessert and never said anything. When the server dropped the wrong thing they said ok I'll leave this one here complementary but then our actual server came by and took it away, kind of strange. Food was good, service was a miss. There was a woman walking around checking in on tables that was definitely a hard worker but our main server was Mia.
Was disappointed in the initial service. The server brought us the croissants but it took a long time for her to return to take our order (we had to flag her down in the end). I ordered the roasted cauliflower entree, since I'm a vegetarian. Was very disappointed in the taste (bland), texture (tasted barely cooked), and the serving temperature (lukewarm). Not wanting to endure another long wait, and not sure if maybe that's the way the dish is supposed to taste, I did not complain or send it back.
Obviously glad to have a vegetarian entree offered as a choice, but the execution needs to improve dramatically before I would give this restaurant another shot.

Excellent service, amazing bartenders and the food is simply divine! A very cozy, comfortable place to celebrate or just have a date! We had oysters, huge shrimp, duck, sole and lamb shank......not to be outdone by the best French onion soup in Boston!
Phenomenal service, everyone greeted us in a friendly tone from the second we walked in. Food was incredible - highly recommend the steak frites with the bordelaise and Parmesan fries!
Food and service were both great. We dined on the earlier side so it wasn’t super busy or loud but things definitely were picking up as we finished. Highly recommend the Parisian gnocchi and branzino

Went here last year for Valentine's, truly spectacular but this year - more expensive, no wine pairing option, and no food choices! Apparently they wanted to "make portions larger". Service was good but I wish they kept the options they had before! Entree was coq au vin and the sauce was very good but I dont want to pay 95$ for chicken! Also dessert was petit fours but because everything was decided already (fixed price and fixed plates) it left me feeling a little bit of a cruise ship vibe. In short: Last year - grand slam , this year - double. Not sure I will return next Valentine's without some changes to the special.
We had to wait for a table even through we made a reservation for 2, and once seated it took an awkward amount of time to be greeted by our server. Once we were, he was very helpful and attentive, food came out fast and delicious!
Service was good -- friendly, responsive -- and the steak was good. My duck l'orange was properly cooked but was missing the l'orange or similar accoutrements and the dipping sauce was tasteless. I was engrossed in my conversation and didn't raise this with the server. I'm bringing guests there on Saturday so we'll try again.
I have visited this restaurant many times and this was the worst experience. The service was terrible
and it was very noisy with loud music which I do not remember from other times I have been there.

My first time here and it was fantastic. Staff very knowledgeable and super friendly. Food was amazing at reasonable prices. Decor and cleanliness was also very good. I cannot wait to go back!
We had a fantastic time! Dinner and drinks were all excellent. Service was phenomenal. Our waiter Paul was world class. He is a waiter in the Parisian style. Very attentive and concerned with our drinks and Dinner. He even provided us with our favorite drink (Absenthe) even though it wasn't on the menu yet! It's coming to the menu soon!!! Thanks for a wonderful Dinner.
Great value - a dozen oysters, steak frites, moules frites, glass of wine and a beer, for about $100. The Oysters were great, the steak fantastic, and the fries crisp. The beer was a bit flat. Really good food - the only two negatives were that it's noisy, but unlike most brasserie the tables are not squashed together. We had a great booth. The other issue is that the bathroom is in the basement, and the restaurant on the 2nd floor, so it's a hike to take a wizz. Great value, fun atmosphere, excellent food.
