Very pleasing. I plan on returning.
Wonderful. Jaime was very attentive. We made several requests and all were received eagerly and correctly. Good recommendation on the lamb.
I love this place. The food is great! 3-course lunch special for just under $30 is a deal for the quality. Yum! I recommend the chicken dish, any soup of the day and profiteroles for dessert.
Excellent food and service. Pricey, but worth it.
My Boyfriend and I came in and sat in the main dining area. Nice waitress, nice place. Nice seats! We looked at the menu and on it it said Sunday Happy Hour Drink Specials. We ordered two drinks and the waitress left. Two seconds later she came back and said we would have to move to the seats at the bar if we wanted those drink specials. I grumbled and she led us to some crappy seats in the bar area. We felt like we were led out of first class to the coach seats near the bathroom. She was making excuses and the meals was ruined. Food ok. Drinks weak but she was nice after. Never will return. Oh and found out later I got no points cause we didn’t eat in the main dining room. The one we got kicked out of! Note: every other review I have posted is 4 or 5 Stars.
Bastille never disappoints. Great value in prix fix option, creative menu, always delicious!
Nice - received a free bday dessert
Wonderful food and excellent service - a perfect evening. The noise level is low, so you can actually have a conversation with your fellow diner. Easy parking is an added benefit.
Delightful quiet dining with delicious food, great service, and bargain prices for Sunday night wine selections
Loved the restaurant - definitely a keeper. Great food and service.
My husband and I (based on a friend's recommendation) made reservation at Bastille for our anniversary. First, we were seated by a window that had been smashed and the remnants of the window had barely been cleaned. Second, our waitress was, at best, abrupt. In a quiet French restaurant, she walked up behind me and in a very loud voice simply interrupted my husband and I and then proceeded to talk over us. Each of our interactions with her were hurried and slightly uncomfortable ... as if she could hardly be bothered. And then the food, the food was hit or miss. The shrimp beignets were good but not amazing. The cheese and charcuterie plate was barely edible with cold cheese and yucky bread. We did complain and though there was no acknowledgement of our complaint or apology, they did comp us for that plate. My husband's main course (the hanger steak) was cooked perfectly; my Paella ... was ok and barely met the definition of a Paella. Overall - this was very disappointing.
Absolutely phenomenal menu and options. Had the three course dinner menu and it was fantastic. It is a full portion 3 course as well. They do not give you smaller portions due to the menu selection. Highly recommended and will be going back.
Gem in the heart of Old Town. If you’re looking for a fun and delicious French meal, you’ve found it.
Bastille continues to be better than ever. Every item on the brasserie menu is perfect. The spring salad was outstanding, with it perfectly (meaning barely) dressed FRESH local greens. The duck continues to bring us back, each time balanced with a seasonal fruit, this time macerated strawberries and rhubarb that were sheer perfection. Service is attentive, but you never feel rushed or hovered over. Even the young hosts/hostesses are poised and professional beyond their years. Love this place.
Bastille excels across the spectrum of French Bistro food... aromatic garlic escargot smothered in savory parsley butter suitable for a full basket of crusty house bread; with a $10 goblet of Côte Catalanes (?) chardonnay... had the special ... blackened halibut, which was a tad over, but still fabulously tasty, so why argue? ; the dessert was a sorbet on merengue, delight, espresso to finish... and, I confess, an icy Bombay Martini up ... is my guilty pleasure... best fine-dining restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, 2 short blocks from Braddock Metro...
We had the specials - Vichyssoise soup of the day, and halibut with spinach, grits and slightly blackened with a lightly spicy sauce with crawfish, excellent. good wines and fun evening. Can always count on a great night.
Always surprised a in a delightful way.
This was our second visit to Bastille and we enjoyed it once again. We started with a charcuterie plate, which was fine. I then had a mushroom soup (special of the day) and my partner had the beet salad - both were excellent. We both had the duck for the main course and it was fantastic!!! They know how to do duck here, so if you enjoy duck, this is a good spot.
They were out of the wine we ordered and then were out of the dessert we ordered. Neither was particularly troubling, but I am noting it here for a complete review. I ended up with their version of a German chocolate cake, which was fine.
Overall, I am a big fan of this restaurant. It has a nice ambience and the service and food are quite good. We will not hesitate to return.
We love this place. Their bistro option is reasonable. Their wine list is nice. The dinner options are wonderful. Unpretentious, yet authentically French. Great oysters. Quiet, and delightful, and with a bocce court across the treet. Great outdoor patio seating in back as well. They have some great specials and a really good happy hour. glad it's close by.
Very disappointed in our dining experience at Bastille. We were excited to try the restaurant as it has gotten high reviews, but brunch was nothing more than average. While we enjoyed the champagne for the mimosa special, it was difficult for us to even eat the 3 beignets we ordered, and we were sorely disappointed to learn that the “duck fat French fries” were nothing more than undercooked potatoes. We will not be back.
The food is fabulous, and the awesome staff always makes the dining experience extra nice. We’ve eaten there dozens of times. We often bring out of town guests, a no-brainer for entertaining. Our guests always come away happy!
Great food & cocktails out on the patio on a warm evening. Can it get better than that?
We’ve tried Bastille a few time over the years, one good experience and several mediocre. Family of four dinner, poor value-I could dine at higher end places in old town and leave for the same price, and be much happier and sated. Raw oysters were most likely frozen, not shucked properly or disconnected, no oyster or seafood fork available. Had to use a butter knife. Soups were good. Left unsatisfied and probably this will be our last time. Heir prices are high end, food not quality. Service was blah as well, about 10 minutes for water and first drinks about 15-20min after being seated. Food came out on time.
Salad with salmon addition was super. Mushroom risotto portion was surprisingly small and good but not outstanding. Dessert (the complicated one) was excellent.
Love the relaxed feel of this place . Definitely would return to try more dishes. Chicken and fish specials were fresh and delicious. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.
Very good food, outside seating was nice. The only thing it should have outside would be soft music.
I live in California and this is a "must stop" when I am in the Washington area. Great food and friendly people. You will not be disappointed. As you might expect, wine list is French oriented. My only suggestion would be to have some more California and Washington State wines.
Went with a friend for the first time for my birthday. My go-to French place closed earlier this year so I've been looking for a new place. Bastille may fit the bill - quiet casual atmosphere, good menu with affordable options (such as the three and four course meals), and outstanding food. Glad to have found it.
We had a very nice birthday dinner. The service was great and they gave us a little treat with desert. It's a nice neighborhood spot!
Excellent as always, including Noemi's service!!
What don't you serve your wonderful escargots for lunch anymore? I miss them!!!
So happy to have found this little refuge of good eating in Alexandria. I’ll definitely go back!
Great lunch, fresh seasonal entrees. Lovely wait staff. Nice Friday lunch experience.
Took my mom here for a late Mother's Day lunch. Enjoyable as always!
We came to Bastille with our 11 month old daughter for Mother's Day Brunch. Although I would not bring her here for an evening meal (the cuisine is definitely adult, not child, focused), they were incredibly accommodating for our family of three. The courses were well timed, and the selection was impressive, even on a prix-fixe special menu. Ingredients were outstanding and the artistic presentation was special indeed. We definitely will be back; it is one of the first non-touristy 'foodie' restaurants we've found in the Old Town Alexandria area. Merci beaucoup!
Outstanding food and interesting choices. Excellent service by Sophia. One small issue - We had checked menus online ahead of time and would like to have known that prix fixe at $49 was the only option on Mother’s Day. But Bastille is definitely worth a visit!
Other than some boisterous clientele, it was a PERFECT evening!
Great eggs benedict. Would like more brunch options with veggies.
Traveled from North Carolina. We came for mimosa brunch and it was amazing. The bread was great, I started with the cheese platter, which I highly recommend, and ordered chicken and waffles for my main course. Everything was so great. I enjoyed sitting outside, the area was scenic and made for a great brunch.
Great restaurant with outstanding service. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and my date said (my!) escargot were the best she’d ever tasted. She had chicken which I don’t eat, and reported that it was delicious. Not inexpensive but a good value nonetheless.
We had the Seared Mediterranean Branzino and the Roasted Lamb double rib chop for entrees. Both were perfectly prepared and seasoned. Service throughout the evening was excellent and friendly. The Morello Cherry and Almond Strudel and the Profiteroles au chocolate were great dessert options.
