Drawing from Chef Christophe Poteaux's French heritage and Chef Michelle Poteaux's American roots, Bastille's cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, prepared from scratch. Items like Bastille's house-made ketchup, Shrimp beignets, Hummus and Flatbread, to every entree and delectable dessert are carefully chosen to represent what is BEST about Bastille, Virginia and Contemporary French food.
Whether it is for drinks and nibbles after work or just a night when you don't want to cook for the family, the staff at Bastille welcomes you. Enjoy our casual atmosphere where locals and travelers love to relax with creative food, drink and to share a good laugh.
Lovey ambiance and servers were very attentive! Had a wonderful time and food was incredible!
Bastille has great Restaurant Week deals: 3 course lunch for $22 ; 3 course dinner for $35. Some places offer an abbreviated menu but they had a full menu with many familiar dishes. The owners seemed to be on vacation, and we did not recognize our usual wait staff. Our young waiter seemed to be in training, forgetting many things (bread basket, a fork, etc.) He was very friendly but we had a difficult time understanding him. Despite a very long lunch we enjoyed our lunch. Kir Royale, beignets (which were soft, not crispy), mushroom soup, mushroom risotto, steak frites, and cappuccino. Hope to see service improve in the near future.
I've eaten here time and again. Bastille never disappoints.
We went for Saturday brunch and loved our meal! We cannot wait to come back for dinner and even snacks in the cafe!
Gods solid French food, decently priced.
Consistently has great food and good service. The atmosphere is such that it is easy to carry on a conversation during meal which is nice as so many places are quite noisy. I highly recommend.
Took a friend for her Birthday dinner - she s a gluten free diner ( I am not). We both selected off of the Bistro 3 course prix fixe.
Nice touch was a candle in creme brulee and a bit of bubbly🤗
We had high expectations for this restaurant. Unfortunately the service did not flow very well that night (it was a Wednesday). We waited some time for our cocktails and were only half way through them when the main dishes arrived. Then the wine we ordered for the dinners came when we were halfway through them. And the two sides we ordered had been forgotten - when they finally arrived at the table, they were both undercooked (rushed). To the restaurant's credit, they didn't charge us for the sides, but it was disappointing. I think we just hit Bastille at a bad moment. I'd like to go back and give it another shot for dinner.
Overall, I really like this restaurant. My last visit was lacking in overall service-slow, not following up or seeing if we wanted additional drinks.
New Years Eve
The service was bad. The waitress did not tell us about any specials or the Sunday wine special. We heard other waiters telling the patrons about the specials but we had already ordered wine and food so we could not take advantage of the other options.
Amazing service, delicious food and very nice presentation. We really enjoyed our dinner.
This used to be a favorite restaurant but it has really gone downhill. I don’t know if the chef owner is no longer cooking or what but the food is just not good. So disappointing.
I had the four course prix fix menu with escargot, the cauliflower salad, and the duck. The whole thing was delicious and worth the time and money.
I absolutely love this place! I’ve been many times but this time is great!
Absolutely wonderful! Delicious food as always, great service and we even got a special champagne surprise as we were celebrating a birthday. Highly recommended for anyone!
We are semi-regulars who almost always find Bastille outstanding, but the four-course meal with wine pairings that we had on Christmas Eve...well, let's just say they took it up a notch. Incredible food from start to finish. Wife and I got different selections except for the main course, and every single item was sublime. Great service, too, but that's always the case with the woman who was our server that night. (I'm horrible with names.)
Christmas Eve dinner. Lobster entree was wonderful. Excellent salmon appetizer. Delicate pistachio dessert. Just right.
We had dinner on December 23 and the overall experience was somewhat disappointing. Service in particular was lackluster. We were basically ignored, having to request bread twice as well as a water refill. It appeared that the normal wait staff were off for the holiday. The food was a mixed bag. The appetizer (rock shrimp) and desert (crepe brûlée) were excellent and highly recommended. The pork loin and sausage entree was boring, pedestrian and overpriced. We hope this was an outlier experience and will give them another chance.
The food is always excellent. We love coming here. We ate in the bar/cafe area and it was very cozy.
I dined here for the first time with my husband and it was actually pretty good. My husband and I both ordered three courses and each course was tasty and a good size, not too big but at the same time ample. Prices were also good as well as the ambience and noise level. We left feeling satisfied and will definitely be back.
Classic French bistro fare. A great neighborhood restaurant. Good service. I had the scallops which were excellent. My spouse had the steak frites, prepared perfectly.
My mom visited me from out of town and I took her to Bastille. We had a very nice time. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoy the three course prix fixe.
I've been to La Bastille many times and enjoy the food. However this last experience was degraded by poor service and a guitar-duo who, although they played well, we're way too loud for the small dining room. I noticed upon leaving that they were using a small acoustic amp that they could have left home. The guitars didn't need any amplification.
The servers tried their best but maybe they shouldn't be serveurs. Perhaps they should have tried harder. Even though disappointed, I still left a 20% tip.
It's a nice restaurant.
They were nice enough to let us linger over our meal for conversation which was nice. The food is good, the service attentive and easy street parking in Alexandria.
It is always a lovely dining experience with the whole package - great food, experienced and friendly staff and lots of parking available ( a real plus in Old Town.
One of my favorite restaurants in Alexandria. Imaginative and well prepared food and mercifully quiet. Service always good.
Duck and bouillabaisse both to starchy! Drowned out sauce and flavors! We love Bastille but think both the dishes were way to starchy!
The food and flavors - excellent - definitely going back!
Had a fabulous dinner with two friends. We all thought our entrees were excellent. Short ribs were melt in your mouth yummy. I had the Panna cotta for dessert and it was best I've ever had. Our waiter was also wonderful - knowledgeable, professional but not at all stuffy.I
Will definitely be coming back.
Lovely restaurant, but it was way
too loud, practically had to shout
to hold a conversation.
Great value! Excellent food. Good service. Good location.
Fantastic date night. Food was not only delicious, but beautifully presented.
Authentic yet approachable French dishes with a nice wine list. Properly-sized portions, and the meal service was well-timed.
Coq au vin was superb! Good wine and cocktail selection
Wonderful service and food!
I've been to Bastille several times this past year for special occasions - birthdays and celebrations. I love their shrimp beignets and their profiteroles dessert is one of my all time faves.
Superior food! One of OldTown’Absolute finest for fine dinning. Everything is so original - especially the deserts. This last visit I was struck by a lack of wait staff coordination. One would bring a dish but there was a noticeable wait for someone to figure out we edged a fork. It took wY too long for someone to noice that our wine glasses needed refilling. So this was a busy Friday night, and one time this Dan be forgiven. But getting back to the food, I would definitely go back!!!
