Drawing from Chef Christophe Poteaux's French heritage and Chef Michelle Poteaux's American roots, Bastille's cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, prepared from scratch. Items like Bastille's house-made ketchup, Shrimp beignets, French pimento cheese and Flatbread, to every entree and delectable dessert are carefully chosen to represent what is BEST about Bastille, Virginia and Contemporary French food.
Whether it is for drinks and nibbles after work or just a night when you don't want to cook for the family, the staff at Bastille welcomes you. Enjoy our casual atmosphere where locals and travelers love to relax with creative food, drink and to share a good laugh.
I absolutely love Bastille. I have never had a bad meal and the service is exceptional. It is always quiet with a relaxed atmosphere no matter how many people are there.
This place was excellent! Service was spectacular. Food was delicious. Will certainly go back!
It was NOT posted on the App that it was Restaurant week. My party would normally have shared dishes. Instead we were forced to purchase individual course meals. We all agreed the Meeks were only average in flavor and presentation. I would neither return nor recommend.
Restaurant incorrectly indicated to Open Table that we did not honor our reservation.
Great mussels and frites. Restaurant week by calendar but not in our decision to eat at Bastille. Salads, escargot and gazpacho were all delicious, too. Cheese dessert was good. Raspberry chocolate dessert was just ok. (Chocolate cake layer was good but raspberry ice cream was lacking.) NoAmy was a great server. Unfortunately kitchen sent the wrong food and it disrupted what was a good evening out. Champagne apology helped.
Excellent food and service, but pricey.
Always great! Everything about it is great. Best place in Old Town. Just wish they had a little wider menu selection.
Food was absolutely perfect, very creative cocktail list and very hospitable service from entire team...host, server, busser..everyone.
Great vslue for RW as well....rock shrimp beignets and scallops w/ 5 large scallops - best RW menu this year by far.
Cannot wait to return...thank you
Excellent, as is usual at Bastille. Given that it is Restaurant Week it was a little more crowded and louder than normal, but the food and service were uniformly excellent.
Great spot for restaurant week! We really enjoyed everything, particularly the fried green tomatoes/watermelon appetizer and the cocktail selection. The restaurant was a bit dark for my liking, but overall everything was excellent.
We went during Restaurant Week mainly because of the several gluten free options offered including frite which they do in a separate fryer. The food was excellent - generous portions and not over sauced. I started with the salad nicoise which was well balanced and absolutely fresh greens. I followed that with the mussels which were done in a traditional white wine broth. They were meaty and perfectly cooked. My wife had the escargot which she really enjoyed and the duck, again excellently cooked and she raved about the herb barley risotto. On top of all that, the wine paired wonderfully with our food and was offered at a reasonable price. We may become regulars.
Haven’t been here in awhile but wanted to bring friends from Richmond since the wife loves all things French. They and we loved everything, though we weren’t aware that ONLY the Restaurant Week menu was being served. No matter, ultimately. Loved being able to skip a dessert to get an appetizer and salad.
Food is wonderful, people are friendly, atmosphere is low key. A great restaurant to dine at and especially great during restaurant week!
As usual, a lovely & delicious time was had by all!
Went for restaurant week and will definitely be going back again! All the food was excellent, and the staff was very nice.
Noise level very very high. Waiter was very friendly and professional. Need to reserve early or you might not get your perfect time.
My seating and server request was also met.
My brother was in town from out of state.
Always a treat to dine at Bastille. Cannot say enough about all aspects of this brasserie - a gem of the Alexandria culinary scene.
Went during the summer restaurant week event. Amazing food. Amazing staff. Did I mention great food... 😁
The food was very good and an excellent value when we attended during Restaurant Week. We appreciated the option of a side and appetizer with the entree in lieu of a dessert. However, we were forgotten for long periods and had trouble getting a spoon for the soup, etc. While cheerful, there was not adequate staff, so no refills of water, long delays clearing the table, etc.
Bastille is always a treat, but especially so during Restaurant Week. We enjoyed fine food and wonderful service. Steak Frites was delicious and creme caramel was the perfect ending to an outstanding dinner!
The service was attentive without being obtrusive. The starters, a charcuterie plate and salmon pate over salad were both fresh and delicious. My colleague said the pate was one of the best he had ever had. The chicken pillared was perfectly cooked as were the mussels - the white wine broth was completely slurp worthy. We were too stuffed for dessert!
Delicious meal, but service a little slow. Restaurant was busy.
brilliant food and service: large portions of excellent salads and generous portions of fish; service with a smile. Great place.
We have been to Bastille several times, always for lunch. The food is consistently excellent, the service is consistently good, and for lunch it is never too crowded. Plus, on street parking is always available, which is another plus, especially in Alexandria. This is our go to place for lunch, and the desserts are always excellent as well.
Been here multiple times and enjoyed every single time. But tonight, food was off. I usually order the same thing every time which includes meats/cheese selection and wings. The meats/cheese board was really disappointing. When it first arrived, the color of the meats didn't look too fresh but when I tasted it, it was gross so I spit it out. I love their wings but tonight it was overcooked and crunchy. Just a bummer when it's an off night at your go-to place.
We are so sorry for your experience! Please accept our invitation to stop in and let us treat you to a replacement of charcuterie and wings! When you stop by, ask for the manager and we will get you taken care of right away! Sincerely, Michelle Poteaux Chef Owner
Good value for the food's superior quality. Excellent service.
Because of the balmy early evening, decided to dine on the outside deck, not anticipating a distractive invasion of aggressive flies, one of which fell into my spouse's wine glass. Yes, we could have asked for an inside table, but decided to remain outside anyway.
Eventually, as the sun began to set, the flies surprisingly disappeared. The staff were quite accommodating, even giving us bar menus to place over our wine glasses!
Notwithstanding the fly incursions, the food, as usual was quite good, in both taste and presentation.
This is the third time we have been to Bastille, and every time we go, the food is phenomenal, the wait staff is perfect (it was commented by a guest how the waiter was always present when you need him without hovering). I cannot say enough how much my wife and I love this restaurant. We will be back for sure! Strongly recommend
Friday night out--- a great meal, at a comfortable place and one where you can have conversation with your fellow diners. Very nice, hope to be back soon!
Great gluten free options.
We enjoyed so much that I want this to be the locale for my retirement dinner.
Love this place
We had an excellent meal on Saturday evening. The food was spot on, the plating gorgeous, and our server, Julio, was knowledge, friendly and efficient.
I ordered a Midsummers Dream cocktail. It was beautiful, but bland. It really didn't taste good. (Not complaining though, you gotta try new things.) So I sent it back and got a different drink that was really tasty! I expected to pay for the first. But, without my asking, they graciously removed it from the bill.
I'll be going back soon! And asking to be seated in Julio's section...
Excellent food excellent service, a really good restaurant experience
Always a joy
The lunch special of
Great food, friendly staff, reasonably priced. We had a "capeese-like" salad, scallops over corn risotto and crepes for dessert. All well prepared and presented, decent sized portions.
Sunday brunch was delicious. They had live music that sounded terrific but was too loud for the small dining room. Maybe if it was moved to next room it would be more enjoyable for diners.
