Basta Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Excellent dinning, great service, delicious food. The ambiance is very pleasing. We sometimes go and enjoy dinning at the bar. Very relaxing, you’re not rushed and everyone is very pleasant. We have not been in a while but we certainly will try to dine there more often.
A favorite place when we visit relatives nearby. Service has a nice aura of professionalism, food rarely disappoints. Menu is more comfortable than creative, but that's an observation, not a criticism, and there is usually some interesting fare along with the red sauce standards like veal parmigian (which is very well done here, and fills a large dinner plate). Moderate to higher priced all around, but dishes and portions all feel generous, the execution eschews the usual shortcuts found in less expensive places, and we always leave happy and full. My one personal recommendation - bring some Peru into your pizza and have Mike make you a Pisco Sour.
Last time we ate here we really enjoyed the food and the service was pretty good. This time we were all pretty disappointed. The staff was all over the place. We all had drinks from the bar when we were seated at our table and we had to ask them to clear all the extra wine glasses that we didn’t need. Ok maybe not a big deal. But then the busser kept coming over to the table the entire time to clear plates when we weren’t even done with our food. We had the buratta appetizer special that was really delicious. Calamari was a little chewy for my liking. My husband and I did not care for the marinara sauce. It had way too much sugar in the sauce. Which was a shame because the gnocchi’s were delicious. Overall disappointed.
Great night!! We had a reservation set for 7:30 but our table was not ready so we had to wait about a hlaf hour. While waiting we grabbed a drink at the bar and Basta later paid for our drinks for the inconvenience of waiting. Then the manager, hostess, and waistress personally came by to apologize for the wait, great service and attention! The food was fantastic, which made the night that more special :)
I've been to Basta many times over the last 15 years. My expectation is always high for good food and service. I was disappointed Saturday. The food was good but the service was poor. The server was slow, forgetful and brought a wrong dish. Also, mangement seated us in the "back" room which was heated only by a gas-fired fireplace. The heating was uneven and eventually the room got uncomfortably cold and reeked of natural gas. I almost called the Cranston Fire Dept.
The prices of entrees are also high for what you get.
Been eating here for years came once again to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we sat The restaurant was feeezing we didn't get menus our waiter was completely absent never gave us choice of specials. We had to ask for bread he never came with it . I had to flag someone down to get bread. 5 adults and needed more bread which he didn't bring again. drinks were slower than pond water. the ravioli was surrounded by short rib meat which completely ruined the entire ravioli dinner. The gravy "red sauce" on eggplant was overly sweet . The waiter exuded a very hurried energy when taking our orders that anyone in the party was not feeling they could ask him anything it was as if he stood there twitching as someone who had to hurry to the bathroom. BUT this was anytime he came to our table. We suspect Basta changed hands since our last visit. Everything about this experience was not good. Dropping 275.00 for a dinner one expects better service better food and a better overall experience. At the very least we would have expected our waiter to serve us as if we were there as paying customers. The food was another story all together. Basta always served great food always offered great service by excellent waiters. The new owners must get back to Basta basics.
Very disappointed. Basta was recommended to us by an excellent Italian chef in DC (who will be hearing from me!) so we were looking forward to an excellent meal. It was unimaginative, mediocre, basic Italian fare. And there were NO SPECIALS. None! Incredible. Way too much $$ for boring food.
The service bordered on amateurish. Our waiter, and others, repeatedly, continually, attempted to remove plates before all diners were finished although we asked them EACH TIME to please desist. Just inattentive and unprofessional all around.
Also, the place was mind-numbingly loud--terrible acoustics! We had to shout at one another across the table and still couldn't be heard. Very unpleasant.
We skedaddled as soon as we were finished with our entrees (and I didn't even finish mine). No desire to stick around for coffee or dessert. Borderline awful experience. Won't be back and will tell others not to bother!
We hadn't been to Basta in quite some time. The food, drink and atmosphere were all outstanding--just as we remembered. We'll be adding Basta back into our regular core group of restaurants. Two minor complaints--we did wait more than 30 minutes past our scheduled reservation time. Also, the restaurant is pretty loud, both from background music and the large crowd. I think the next time we go back we'll schedule for a non-weekend night.
The food at Basta is very good, however somewhat overpriced in my opinion ($27.00 for chicken with small amount of butternut squash). The dining room is very nice, however the acoustics are not so good. A party of two can just about hear themselves talk to each other. I think this is a nice place to sit at the bar and/or in the back at the fire, but for me I would not have a full dinner here again.
Our experience at Basta was beyond excellent. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Wait staff allowed plenty of time for us to enjoy our cocktails prior to ordering. The food was amazing -- best we've had in a long time! The service was extraordinary. Wait staff anticipated our every need. I highly recommend Basta. You will not be disappointed.
Basta has delicious Italian food and atmosphere is great. Unfortunately, the service, only when I don’t order alcohol, is less than average. I do not drink and often times go with people who also don’t drink. On almost every occasion once we say we don’t want drinks, the service is noticably worse - our table is visited less often than those around us drinking, we aren’t asked if we want more of what we are drinking, they don’t come to ask how the food is, don’t ask if we want bread, etc. I understand this is where waitors make their tips, but it is still unacceptable and in response I don’t leave the normal 20%. Basta is one of my favorite restaurants and I always second guess going because it makes me uncomfortable when I don’t order an alcoholic drink. Again, food is so good, atmosphere is excellent for a night out, but the servers make me feel terrible for not drinking!
