We loved Basso56! Everyone from the owner to every employee seemed to love working and being there. The food was excellent, the wine was excellent and the experience was great. We went out of our way to find the Owner and thank him in person.
The service was outstanding and the food...I enjoyed every part of our meal. This is now our favorite Italian spot in NYC!
We loved the service and location. My wife was smart and ate excellent pasta. I was not that smart and the veal was chewy and not quite up to snuff. My fault... will order better next time in Manhattan. Overall nice experience.
Service was great, food was great, prices were very reasonable. Extensive menu with a ton of choices, all of which looked fantastic. I would come again!
ALWAYS great dining!
The food is excellent. The ambiance is very nice. My husband had the brazino which he said was the best he’s ever had. I had perfectly grilled lamb chops. This restaurant is a gem.
Absolutely lovely prix-fixe lunch with many options for both appetizers and mains. Portions were fairly large for a prix-fixe, where often there is some skimping on size. Food was delicious, and service very accommodating. I had the mozzarella app, which came wrapped in a thin slice of speck ham and was broiled - a wonderful combination of flavors. Main was the sliced skirt steak which came med rare, as ordered. My friend and I split dessert, a yummy panna cotta. A real find in pricey midtown Manhattan. Will definitely be back.
the pasta dishes were extremely bland. Servers were delightful however.
Was the first time ever in NYC, found Basso 56 trip advisor. All the comments were positive. We made reservations ahead of our visit. We were very happy with everything. The food, drinks, and waitress were excellent. I loved the homemade beet gnocchi were delicious, gelato and sorbet were very good, and my husband had a mix of seafood with pasta was delicious. When we visit NY again we will definitely done at Basso56 again!
Excellent food and service!
Great Italian food. Low key place which focuses on food and service. No pretense . Good for theatre evening.
Went for dinner before theatre in the neighborhood. Good food, brought promptly. Service very attentive and courteous. Would just ask that they have the specials printed. They were numerous and it's simply impossible to remember them all when they are stated so rapidly. They should also provide prices of the specials. Overall it was a good experience and I would return for pre-theatre.
Great food and atmosphere!!
Enjoyed it immensely!!
Basso 56 never disappoints. The staff and food are excellent and authentic. Plus the location takes you a bit away from the theatre district restaurants which is wonderful.
Our anniversary and my birthday. Basso56 never disappoints with its quality, creativity and attention to detail, and customers!
Took our grand daughter for her Birthday. Food was great . Service was great. Enjoyed it very much.
Basso 56 is a quaint basement restaurant. Upon arrival you feel a bit cramped with very limited waiting area. Seating is not intimate or roomy, BUT, despite the lack of spaciousness, it is well worth the wait and closeness to other folks. The service is very good, plenty of staff on the night my wife and I went. The wine list is good, and all Italian (brush up on Italian wines if your not too savvy with those wines). The menu has nice choices and the specials were very appealing. I got the trout with mashed potatoes and spinach. The sauce was excellent. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and would recommend for a nice night out.
My 3rd time there. My favorite hotel is walking distance so this has become a tradition when I visit NYC. Haven’t found a better authentic Italian restaurant then Basso56. A must eat!
We went to Basso56 for dinner after walking along Fifth Avenue to look at the holiday windows. The restaurant was full, but we had a reservation and didn't have to wait long for our table. The waitstaff was helpful, friendly, and prompt with our orders. We all enjoyed our dinners, and were so glad to be in a warm and cozy place, after walking around in the cold.
Great food great service. Must make reservation because its always popular and packed!!
We had a great meal while in NYC for the night. I had the beet gnocchi and my husband had the veal. Both were superb and cooking is one of my hobbies. Excellent wine and yummy gelato!
Great experience! Our friend Rick and Susan recommended and did not disappoint! We loved it all!
Beet Gnocchi were as good or better than I had hoped for after looking at the photos on line previously
We will be back !
Absolutely the best Italian meal I've had. This was my first time at the restaurant and will definitely make it a standard for each trip to NY.
Fantastic Italian food at a surprisingly affordable price. The service was outstanding and we were there at 7:30 on a crowded Saturday night. Tables are tight but not at all unusual for New York City.
Main courses were excellent. Appetizers were not that great.
Every year, we come to NYC for girls weekend and a show; Basso 56 is a fantastic part of this tradition- fabulous dinner!
Service was great, food was priced appropriately and tasted phenomenal!
I've been going to Basso 56 for around 8 years..sometimes once a year, sometimes twice. I am never disappointed. The staff is friendly, the food is outrageous and there is an feeling of eating in your grandmother's kitchen, with the offered fare being better than any other I have been to in the city. THANK YOU BASSO 56 for your continued amazing service l, great food and amazing atmosphere.
Excellent dinner! We started out with the burrata special. It was outstanding. For the main course I had the crepes stuffed with lobster and my husband had a seafood pappardelle special. They were both delicious. Would highly recommend the restaurant
Service and food was very good
Fabulous little place with great service, scrumptious food and a lively atmosphere.
Wonderful restaurant-food, service, value...fantastic!
As always, the food and service was excellent!
Restaurant was very crowded, but we never felt rushed
Always excellent pasta specials--very tasty and beautifully presented.
This was the second time for me and I was neither disappointed or embarrassed to have recommended Basso56 for my friends get together.
The calamari appetizer was amazing. Tender and lightly breaded with a touch of sauce. I had the risotto with seafood and my wife had the ravioli with spinach and mushrooms. Both were on the special but not overly priced. The portions were more than enough and cooked beautifully. The thick crusted bread was on point and the wine from Tuscany was perfect.
Our friends enjoyed their meals as well and the bill was reasonable for anywhere never mind Manhattan. I would come again and highly recommend Basso56.
We had a wonderful meal. We had a group of 8 but our waitress was terrific and helped with suggestions. The barrata appetizer was to die for and the homemade pastas were excellent.
I love this place. It’s consistently good.
Basso56 was incredible! This was the closest thing we've had to the actual food they serve in Italy! This place is DEFINITELY worth checking out!
