Have eaten here on trips to NYC at least 4 or 5 times. It’s always great food and service. A small yet cosy atmosphere.
Our group truly enjoyed our dinning experience at Basso56. The service was great, and the food was truly outstanding. I would highly recommend Basso56 to my colleagues as dinning experience that they should try! I have no doubt that they will have a great experience. Thanks so very much for a wonderful dinning experience!!!
Had been to the restaurant 2x before, 10 years ago.... still an amazing experience, we enjoyed it very much.
It was a bit loud, but the food was very delicious.
The spaghetti with clams, had a small amount of grit in it, but far better than other places I have had it. That would be my only feedback
This was the first time here and I had notes in Open Table we were not in a rush to see a show or anything. It was great when we checked in they had notesed that next to our reservation and we had a great meal leisurely and the service was excellent! We definitely will return!!
Our favorite Italian restaurant on the west side. We always go here before theater or Carnegie Hall.
All the pastas are fantastic. Lots of interesting starters. Good wine list.
Excellent service. Alex is everywhere, doing everything.
yes would definitely recommend Basso 56 ....it was a nice "find" for this native NY girl and her posse'!
Paolo is a terrific host. I always feel welcome.
This is a wonderful lunch spot for us. They have gluten free options and a fabulous wine list.
Nice friendly place. Good Italian flavors. This place will not let you down
Delicious meal. Outstanding burratta with proscuitto and tomatoes warm. An appetizer special. Duck breast excellent and beautifully presented. Great calamari fritta appetizer. Three pastas ordered. Two excellent. Unfortunately I did not notice the Saffron ingredient in my clams with pasta. I had my expectation of the usual with garlic and olive oil but it was bitter. I hate saffron. They asked to replace it but I didn't. No desserts.
Excellent waitress. This is a "local" but high end restaurant with comfortable environment. Always reliable. Good drinks.
Friendly greeting at entrance. Very attentive server. Food always reliable with allergies attended to. Our go to neighborhood estery
It had been a while since we visited this restaurant, but the food was as delicious as I remembered it, and the service, and attention to detail was excellent. Thank you for a lovely meal!
Fantastic !! Our first time. Best chicken parm I ever had. Excellent service. Let us taste the wine before we ordered. Easy location. We will be back
I recommend Basso56 to people I meet on the train, on the bus, on the street! If I think that they might be looking for a terrific NY experience for lunch or dinner, Basso is my recommendation! I was there with friends and family the other night. We share several appetizers -- my favorite artichoke/parmagiana salad, grilled calamari and fritto misto. All were perfectly cooked and presented. I decided to splurge and order my favorite pasta, the Papardelle All'Abruzzese Con Ragu Di Cinghiale (papardelle with wild boar ragu). It was perfect as usual and the order is big enough that I ate half for dinner while taking the rest home for lunch the next day. Everyone enjoyed their entrees that included the branzino, the trout, the Rigatoni Alla Bolognese and one of the specials of the day. What a great meal!
The Caprese appetizer was excellent The entrees were good. Service was awesome, the wine glasses and water glasses were continually refilled without asking.
We were seated next to the kitchen when many other tables looked available. Too noisy. Our waiter served my appetizer. I waited to eat until my husband received his. It never came after 15 min. Finally I asked about it. He said we never ordered it when we did. Saw him write it down. Waited 10 more minutes for it to arrive. He apologized. My pasta with mushrooms lacked flavor and something in it Had a uncharacteristic slimy feel and turned me off. Finally, when finished, my plate sat in front of me for awhile. Waiter refused to take it away. Just wanted to finish our bottle of wine without the dishes. Oh well.
I will give kudos for the beet salad however, was delicious.
Food was mostly very good. Service started out promising, with prompt water, drink orders and menu recitations. But no follow up after the food was dropped off, no offering of cheese/pepper until the waiter was flagged down, difficult to get anyone's attention for more water. Felt rushed and impersonal.
The food and service were wonderful! Our guests from our business meeting were very pleased.
Great raspberry martini. Great appetizers. Great entrees. I had the orecchiette with sweet sausage and rabe. The rabe was so tender. We shared a couple of desserts which were outstanding. Would highly recommend.
Love this restaurant. Every visit to NYC includes a night at Basso 56.
You cannot go wrong at Brasso56. They do not disappoint. The lunch special is perfect for the theater matinee attendees.
Nice, cozy, quite place. The food is average-high quality, nothing sophisticated but good!
We were hoping for some good Italian food that wouldn't break the bank, but instead got some great Italian food that was reasonably priced. We leaned heavily on the specials, all of which were delicious. The gnocchi with a braised beef sauce was cooked perfectly, and the spinach-ricotta ravioli was on a bed of delicious browned butter sauce (just the right amount). Service was great, too, and the wine list had nice options.
Always great! Been coming here for years. We love it.
Great food and great service! We will certainly be returning.
Beet Gnocchi is to die for. So good!!! Alex was very attentive and kind. Highly recommend.
Service was professional and friendly. Menu was varied but not overwhelming. Salads were fresh and well seasoned. Entrees were good sized with choice of sides. Dessert was very good. Price point was fair. Would definitely return.
This was a evening to savor, and we will definitely return. Toni led a team that provided truly outstanding service (and he generously brought us complimentary limoncello and sambuca for an anniversary toast). We also appreciate the restaurant holding our reservation on a busy Friday night, as our flight into LaGuardia had been delayed. The sea bass melted in your mouth, and the pasta with wild boar ragu was simply phenomenal. Thanks Toni and thanks Basso56!
The food and service is consistently very good.
Comfortable atmosphere with reasonable prices and good food. Good for business lunch
I have dined at Basso56 several times and it never disappoints. The ambience is intimate, the service is excellent and the food is always fresh, delicious and beautifully prepared. The wine list is extensive and impressive. I have brought multiple people of all ages to this restaurant and they have always enjoyed their dining experience.
We’ve been to Basso56 several times and always have enjoyed our meals.....service is friendly and prompt.
Food consistently very good!
My friend and I had their prixe fixe 3 course lunch special. We both had calamari over arugula for appetizer that was generous and sublime. She had skirt steak with fries and I had rigatoni bolonese. We were both happy with our entrees as they were yummy. For dessert, she had panna cotta and me, three flavors of sherbet. Service was excellent, the kind you’d expect at a four star restaurant. The entire experience was excellent, as well as the value of the meal. It was the first time for both of us and it won’t be the last. Basso 56 is truly a hidden gem!!
We’ve eaten here several times and it always pleases! The wait staff makes good recommendations and the food is familiar, but with personality. It’s a good place to bring guests—able to have a conversation and the menu is sure to have something that suits picky eaters.
We have eaten at Basso56 numerous times, especially when going to Dizzy’s at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Food always delicious. Service always impeccable. Highly recommend.
Always reliably excellent! Good place for business lunch or personal.
Perfect for our reunion of old friends who wanted to chat.
We had a delicious and civilized lunch. Great place for a quiet, relaxing meal.
Excellent service, pleasing decor, a menu that is varied without being overwhelming (though I still had problems making a final choice), wonderful food, good wine and value for money. I would happily book again (but live in the UK) and have already recommended to a friend
Food and service are always top notch
