Basso56 features numerous glowing reviews on websites like Yelp, Foursquare and TripAdvisor. It has an extensive wine list and a contemporary, yet casual setting. This restaurant welcomes reservations and also hosts private events.
The perfect Sunday night supper with the perfect chilled straight up martini. Sorry we didn't know about this gem years ago.
Basso56 is very good Italian fare. Quality is high throughout. The dishes are traditional rather than extravagant, and without a lot of fanfare but it is what makes it more 'homey' for me. Been coming for years.
Our third year in a row dining after the theater for girls weekend; we plan on being back next year too. Absolutely delicious!
Extremely pleasant experience! Food was fantastic, staff was very friendly. This establishment wasn't anything out of the ordinary but the staff creates a very positive atmosphere!
The food was exceptional, great wine and good service. Genuine Italian restaurant with great pasta. Went there with my Italian friend which made the experience even more genuine.
Good italian menu, although I believe most workers at the restaurant are from Albania.
Portions are generous, reasonably priced for a good venue in Manhattan , a bit confined given small premise.
This was my second visit, and I didn't regret it!
They were especially accommodating when traffic delayed our arrival and still hustled to let us make our curtain time without feeling rushed at dinner
Excellent food and service! I will definitely go back!
Delicious food! Great service! Very accommodating! Highly recommend.
Outstanding service and outstanding food! I would recommend to all!!!
Delicious cuisine in the shadow in Carnegie Hall. Nice variety on the menu and attentive staff.
We're in New York City about 3 times a year and most times we end up at Basso56. Love the atmosphere; it's cozy, friendly and the food is excellent. We've never had a disappointing meal, and their specials are amazing. At our most recent stop I had homemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta and spinach; my husband had the Lamb Shank - it fell off the bone.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Hosted a small business dinner for 7 people on a Monday evening. Hostess and wait staff were attentive and professional. Drinks and wine selection was fine and appropriate for the venue. Ordered three appetizers which were good but portions were quite small. Waited over 1 and a half hours after the appetizers were served for our entrees to arrive, no explanations, no apologies, no offer of a complementary anything for our extended and frankly embarrassing kitchen service ... food was just OK, there are much better choices in the area and we will certainly not return.
We have been here quite a few times. My favorite italian restaurant!! The food is Delicous!!!!
We loved it! We had a party of 9, none of us from NY, some used to dining out and some not. All of us agreed the food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. Every meal was absolutely delicious. Staff was also really helpful hanging up wet coats, graciously managing our large party as subparties drifted in, and even taking a great family photo for us. Thank you!
We come here every year from out of town and Basso 56 is the first restaurant we eat at everytime. We are never disappointed. Great food, great staff and wonderful service
My dear friend Ann and I go to NYC once yearly for a day trip at Christmastime. We were looking for a nice Italian restaurant with special offerings instead of the same old dishes one usually has.Basso 56 had it all: great food, great service and ambiance.
I've been going to Basso for nearly 12 years and it never fails to please me! The service is very personal and the wait staff is very professional and friendly. I was on time but my guest were an hour late because they were delayed by an accident. The staff was very pleasant and didn't rush me or us after my guests arrived. I ordered the duck breast rare and it was served exactly as ordered. It was delicious. My favorite salad, carciofa with parmegiano and truffle oil was perfect as usual.
This was our first visit to Basso56. The food was outstanding as was the service. Mikaela was our server and she could not have been better. She was very personable and readily helped with all of our inquiries. We will definitely make Basso56 a regular stop when we visit New York City.
Excellent restaurant with outstanding food, especially given the prices. Would book again without hesitation.
A very good choice for pre-theatre dinner with both very good food and location.
Solid food! Quick service! Love the fragili cocktail.
We make this a must do whenever we are in NYC. We love the food, service and ambiance you can't go wrong.
We reserved a table at Basso56 for dinner before a show at Carnegie Hall. The restaurant is just a short walk to Carnegie Hall, and there are a number of parking garages in the area if you plan ahead.
The tables are close together, but somehow they make it work. They menu is quite extensive, with choices for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and we stayed for coffee and dessert. The wait staff was wonderful. and we never felt rushed, even though every table was full and people were waiting. We would definitely return for another great dining experience!
One of my midtown favorites for delicious and unpretentious Italian food (e.g. roasted monkfish with proscuitto and sage or a fabulous spagetti and meatballs) and some beautiful bottles of wine (amarones and brunellos). Make sure to have a reservation unless you are ok with sitting at the bar.
This restaurant is a particular favorite of ours.
We have been going for at least 12 years.
The food is excellent and the service is as well.
There is a welcoming feel about the place...a nice comfort level.
We are already planning to go back to Basso in a few weeks.
Outstanding service all the way. Will be back. Food was wonderful.
The staff were knowledgeable and they could help to describe menu items to us. We ordered a wonderful appetizer and it was adapted so it would be appropriate for the four of us. The complimentary bread and olives were wonderful, and they brought us more olives. Each of the pasta dishes we ordered were delicious. Caution was given if dishes might have a particular taste which may not be to everyone’s liking. We had a leisurely dinner with a shared dessert and had plenty of time to get to the theatre. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Hands down our favorite restaurant in New York City.
Food was amazing, and price was very reasonable. It was my husband's birthday, and the staff was so nice and made our evening special. Would absolutely reccomend this restaurant.
The pastas and salads are very good. I've not tried other dishes. The ambiance is upscale and pleasant. You can actually talk with your companion. Service is very good. I have a walker and transport chair and they are very accomodating
Our "go to" pre-Carnegie hall, pre-city center and pre-theater restaurant. We were an hour early for our reservation (early departure from the suburbs and light traffic) and we were cheerfully seated at the bar until our table was available. Excellent food (try the specials) with good wine by the glass and attentive & prompt service. A short walk from the excellent parking garage straddling 56th and 57th streets just west of 8th avenue.
You can always bet that Basso will deliver a great meal, dining experience and good value. This is a cozy little place that has decent scenery. If all you want is a meal, this is the place to go. For the best in ambiance and decor, perhaps another location.
Made a reservation there for a pre-concert dinner. Nothing special in any way. Very average food, service, etc.
We love Basso56, and try to visit every time we're in NYC. This is a lovely restaurant with excellent food and service. Highly recommended.
I always enjoy Basso56. The atmosphere is very warm, and the food is very good. I had done homemade ravioli in a butter and sage sauce and it was very good.
Went here on our arrival night into the city. My wife loved her Trout and I went traditional with Rigatoni Bolognese, fantastic! Only negative was I asked for anchovies on the side when ordering my Caesar’s salad, and to my surprise they didn’t have any. But the lack of anchovies didn’t stop me from smiling all night as I spend a great evening, enjoying great Italian food, with my beautiful wife.
A perfect way for us to start our 3 day getaway. We will be coming back...... hope they gave anchovies then..lol
Just lovely. The pasta was delicious as was the martini I will go there more often now.
Food was very good as usual. One of my favorite restaurants when I’m in the area.
A warm, inviting atmosphere staffed by a wonderful group of professionals and a wonderful chef.
