Basque Boulangerie Cafe
We decided to try this restaurant because of its menu. It's located in a bakery, which threw us off. There was no one there on a Saturday night and it was odd. The food was ok, but not exceptional.
My new favorite restaurant!
Wow, what a find. The combination of food quality and price is unbeatable. While the decor is plain and simple, there's a style to it and the hospitality more than compensates, making this a true neighborhood gem.
Having lived in Brussels (think Paris) I've been missing places like this where simple yet sophisticated food is prepared with artistry and love at casual places. The Basque Boulangerie Cafe is like a Michelin starred restaurant, without the fancy accoutrements or high prices.
Everything we got was special and delicious. I can't wait to go back.
We are new to Danville and are trying a new restaurant each Friday night. This has definitely been one of our favorites! It’s a hidden gem in Danville in the restored Danville hotel. It’s clean and very cute inside. The staff were friendly from the moment we arrived and seated us right away. They are kid friendly and had the regular kid favorites like chicken fingers & Mac & cheese. My husband and older daughter and I loved the small plate options and shared a variety. Everything was delicious and arrived in optimal time. I highly recommend Basque as a great spot for dinner in Danville and I look forward to trying breakfast and visiting their bakery in Sonoma!
The Beehive cake was incredible and the bread pudding was superb...both warrant a visit. Rest of the food was OK, but I may be biased over the wait times (see below). You might want to check with the server on expected preparation times for each order if you are in a hurry.
Unfortunately the service on the one night we went left much to be desired. There were five of us, including kids, and we went there on Feb 14 for a family tappas dinner. Long story short: we left 2.5 hours later after finally getting our bill and playing at least 20 games of fruit ninja while we waited in between each food order. The owner did his best to apologize at the end of the evening but the reason (busier than we thought, etc) just didn't fly and we left feeling not so happy about the lost time. To top it off, my wife was still hungry and pretty annoyed. And no new high scores on fruit ninja.
It was our first time, so we decided to try quiet a few items on the menu! And we were impressed. The presentation of tapas and flavors were great. We sat in the back room used for large parties—added plus—big screen TV. Of course, we ordered and took pastries home as they are known in Sonoma as one of the best! Again, we were pleased. Two favorites—the Gateau Basque and The Beehive, but the other desserts were just as delicious. We want to try dining again and have a family paella night.
Low key, comfortable atmosphere. Very good to truly excellent food (and I’m a hard grader). Very accommodating staff. Very good wine. Far better food and wine than any other Iberian restaurant I’ve tried in the immediate (10-15mile) area, including Walnut Creek. We’ll definitely be back.
My husband and I had a nice, quiet dinner at this restaurant. At first, it was confusing to locate the entrance since it looked like a bakery that was about to close for the day (lights were dim). But once inside, we were greeted warmly and the food and service were excellent. The steak chimichuri and tuna entrees were flavorful. The wine list prices and variety were on point. We even enjoyed live music by a jazz duo out front. We’ll definitely be back!
This restaurant is trying to offer "current fare."
The food is an amateur effort at best. Completely disappointing.
Great location, ambiance and food. We came with a group of eight adults and had a casual dinner in the back dining room. Would also love to come eat outside with our family.
Fast service and excellent food. Very friendly and helpful. We'll Be Back
This was a great find in downtown Danville. Excellent lunch and great pastries.
We had a surprisingly tasty dinner here on our visit. Flavors were vibrant and it was better than we expected given the very casual environment. A small but nice wine list and very friendly folks. We had the lamb meatballs (nicely spicy sauce!) and the tombo tuna. With a salad to start this was plenty for a reasonable price.
I thought this place was just a bakery until I noticed you could reserve for dinner on open table. I’m so glad I did. My husband and I loved it! I got the salmon (which was under $20- bonus) and my husband the sirloin burger. We also got an artichoke appetizer and loved everything. Service was exceptional. We went home with a free loaf of sourdough :) Can’t wait to go back for brunch!
Wonderful find for dinner! I had the tuna — it was great; my daughter had the lamb meatballs and my wife the salmon, and they both enjoyed it. Casual atmosphere , delightful service, we will be back
Found this place on Open Table. Our reservation was for late Saturday 8:30pm for dinner so they were nearly at closing time and not crowed. Super nice people, no rush, available to answer questions about the menu. A good assortment of choices on the menu. Would definitely recommend it. They have a bakery in Sonoma that prepares all of the desserts and they are YUMMY.
excellent food and the owners are awesome! Ask your server who they are they are likely one of the owners?
This feels like a hidden gem. Great food, attentive owners, great pricing. I'll be back! We went for dinner because of Open Table and are very glad we did.
We go to this restaurant quite often for coffee and pastries in the morning, but recently tried it for dinner because it just came up on Opentable and we were glad we did. The setting is enjoyable, new and clean. The dinner menu had many great options that looked flavorful and fresh. We had a hard time choosing. All of our food was delicious and well priced. We will definitely go there again for dinner! The food here is much better than several downtown restaurants.
