Pasta Bella Mare
A seafood medley of hearty pieces of lobster meat, jumbo shrimp, and fresh sea scallops sautéed in a pesto cream sauce, tossed in pappardelle pasta with sundried tomatoes and Kalamata olives
(Highly Rated in On-Line Reviews) Pan seared Scallops with Portobello mushrooms, red Pepper, Gorgonzola Fig sauce
Rigatoni Bolognese* **
"Best of Boston - Boston Globe" Homemade rigatoni pasta tossed in a slow cooked sauce of tomatoes, ground sirloin and red wine. Topped with shaved Parmigiano Reggiano.
Inexperienced wait staff; bartender using inappropriate glassware; food highly salted.
Matteo was amazing
Calamari was crispy, tasty. Very good remoulade to accompany.
The lobster mussels entree was bland, not much flavor
The carbonara was delicate, flavorful with buttery noodles
The service was slow. Waited 45 minutes for main course to arrive.
The service was truly excellent - attentive and quick but not overbearing. Cocktails very good, I didn’t love the wine but I should have chosen differently. Food was great.
They need to remove “Fine Dining” from their name. There is nothing Fine about fining here. The good is mediocre American Italian food without any resemblance to fine Italian dining. They served a Carbonara and left the plastic wrapping on the pancetta before they diced it. Every piece of pancetta had its plastic wrapping still on, not a pleasant taste or experience. But at least to make it right they.... oh they didn’t do a thing. No discount, no removal from the bill, no comp’d dessert.. nothing.
Noise level is marked loud because there were very loud patrons that were never addressed by the restaurant.
Overall very good. Service was spotty. Appetizers were just ok. Main pasta and steak were very good.
Best overall restaurant experience in Boston!
Booked for a birthday dinner. Wonderful meal.
We had a lovely time and will certainly return! The patio is great for dining and the interior is gorgeous as well; you can’t go wrong either way. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful! Delicious food.
Fantastic food and a great experience as always. Excellent service from Matteo. Looking forward to returning soon!
This was our second time dining at Basile. We went to celebrate some important milestones in our lives. The hostess even added a nice touch of putting confetti on our table! Food was outstanding, service was excellent. Ambience and music were on point! They played Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. They opened the doors to the outdoor seating area which gave a nice breeze to those indoors like us. Can’t wait to go back again!
We had a very lovely time! The wait staff was great, the food was fantastic, and would very much recommend Basile.
They played fly me to the moon a lot
We are from Florida and visiting Boston. We found Basile in our google search. We were pleasantly surprised to discover this great place for authentic Italian food. Service was great and wine selection was extensive. We will recommend Basile to all our friends. When in Boston go Basile.....
Great restaurant. Both food and wine menus have lot of great options. Wine flight of BASILE signature wines was a unique. All the four signature wines from Tuscany were great and the food was delicious. We will not be going to North End for Italian food anymore. Will be back !!!
Service was terrible. We were seated, given bread & after 20 minutes we were not even offered a glass of water. Finally had to get the manager to take our order. There was a large table with about 20 people directly behind us with just a sheer curtain in between. They were extremely loud & kept banging into my chair. Very unpleasant experience. Crab ravioli was delicious, but the Bolognese tasted like pasta with jarred sauce. Will not return. Too many other great restaurants in the area.
Excellent Italian cuisine with a cozy yet vibrant setting.
Was quite surprised to learn about this I believe 5 year old restaurant. This was one of our first ventures out with friends post vaccination and we were hesitant at first but they have managed the pandemic well. The food was superb. In addition, I had the sorbet and forgot to ask if it was homemade - it is to die for.
An interesting decor for an Italian restaurant, but the servers were great and the food even better. Interesting cocktails with an excellent wine list.
Everything was fantastic !
There were six of us.
The staff were helpful, accommodating and attentive.
I called in the morning to change our reservation and it was not an issue.
The owner was so kind and patient when we were choosing wine.
Everyone raved about their meal.
We will definitely return...very soon !!
First dinner on a group trip to Boston. Food was very good and the wait staff was exceptional. Food was plentiful and we had roll out after dinner. There is better food, but this would definitely be a repeatable dinner location for us.
Amazing food, ambiance and service! Beautifully presented outside dinner area.
When we arrived they told us they did not have reservation. Showed them the email confirmation and they sat us at a less than great table despite there being other open tables. Would have appreciated a bit more of an apology and accommodation. Felt our age was against us. Much younger couples who arrived after us were seated.
Food was decent. Waiter had too many tables (about 10), service was slow. Drinks needed to be sent back twice as their espresso martini ended up having coffee grinds floating in the top. Then the reservation was canceled after arriving which is “standard” practice on the weekends, so needed to reach out to Open Table to get my points.
I highly recommend this restaurant! We found it via Open Table. I can’t wait to go back!!! The ambience, the food, the service, the drinks were all above and beyond. They played Sinatra music and it was so romantic. Perfect date night in the city! I already told my family to go there tonight.
Great overall. Too bad more people have not yet discovered Basile. It stacks up with the very best of the high-in-demand fancy restaurants of Boston, all of which we have enjoyed too.
Their minestrone is unique as a very special, light not heavy, Italian specialty, filled with wonderful tiny vegetables.
On the meat side, its rack of lamb is as good as it gets. For fish, its salmon entree is very tasty. Both come with the right full accompaniments of potatoes, vegetables and sauces, so no need for searching for other side orders (although they are there).
The manager is there in the background, but his apparently well-trained staff do their jobs well.
The food was great! Service was exceptional!
Very disappointing on all fronts.....Not Fine Italian by any stretch. Average........
NO idea why this place gets 4/5 stars, our evening was awful, appetizers of PEI Mussels, the smallest we have ever seen, broth was tasteless, Figs wrapped in Prosciutto, tiny and flavorless.
Our waiter took the order and we clearly explained to him in which order we wanted our food, salads then Entrees, the wait was not to long for the food to be brought out, however, the food runner brought our Dinners out, NO salads beforehand, the waiter came over as we stated to explain to the runner that we wanted our salads first, we had them take the salads off the bill and just had our Entrees.
It looked like the owner or the manager for the evening was standing by the door, we were sitting outside, he could clearly see and hear that there was an issue.
AT NO time did he come to the table to see what was wrong or even apologize, very poor customer service on his part, or embarrassment, it seemed that several of the tables outside had issues with their orders, the waiter was clearly overwhelmed, he needed help but none was there for him, bad management, poor communication, the Manager/owner seemed to be more interested in taking pictures of folks eating outside and the musician, even though at several times during the evening a hostess was also taking pictures.
At no time did anyone ask if we needed more water, had to ask twice, even though they walked past our table several times, customer service is severely lacking......they need to be more observant, and preempt needs of the customer at these price's.
The Entrees were ok, the Rigatoni was good, nothing to write home about, the Lamb Chops, cooked to order, were ok, small, and one was completely mangled, Fingerling potatoes were just that, potatoes, no seasoning, Spinach was spinach, flavorless.
We will not be going back, or recommending it to anyone, its a shame as we were seeking an alternative to the North End.
Basile could have been a perfect 5 stars evening. The ambiance was great, the food delicious and the service efficient even if it was not that friendly. It was just efficient. The shrimp salad appetizer was great and the mushroom gnocchi and cod was cooked to perfection. So why only 4 stars? Because of a highway robbery performed by the restaurant. My wife ordered a mocktail to the discretion of the bar tender. They mixed 4 kind of juice (orange, apple, cranberry and grapefruit) and it was not that great but at least they tried. What really irked me and left a bad taste in my mouth: $14 for mixed juice. I thought that it was outrageous but we did not say anything. We ordered it without asking for the price so we were responsible for it. I trusted the ethnic value of management and I was wrong. This was a case of being penny wise and pound foolish because there are plenty of great Italian restaurant in Boston and next time I would think Basile, I will remember the highway robbery as the defining experience so will likely never go back. I hope management is happy with their highway robbery policy.
The bolognese is amazing!!
Loved our dinner. Fresh ingredients and home made pasta. We ordered a wine flight, which is unique to this restaurant. Good service.
Lovely restaurant with intimate setting. They decorated our table with rose petals for our date night. Romantic ambiance with great Italian food and wines.
All around great restaurant. No need to go to North End to get great Italian food. Good to see that restaurant was busy and everyone was enjoying. Good job BASILE, we will be back!
Basile experience was great. The combination of the signature dish Basile Crabmeat Ravioli and the signature wine Basile Cartacanta was the best. Dessert took a little longer to come but the Soufflé was worth the wait. Will be back.
Loved everything from the low music, live music, server was very attentive and on point with everything. Was beautiful. Lovely
Absolutely the best and boutique Italian restaurant in Back Bay. Not a typical 'corporate or chain' restaurant. Food and Service were simply great. If you live in Boston and never been to Basile, then you are missing something.....
Again - the best meal ever, Basile delivers on food, atmosphere, cocktails and service!!!! I love Basile's 5-course chef's dinner - AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cod, Steak, Salmon, Scallops, deserts.....and most of all THE PASTA BOLOGNESE....Oh my heavens!!!!!
We will be back very soon!!! LOVE YOU BASILE!!!!
Delicious wonderful food. Smaller portions but allows for complete enjoyment of bothdinner and dessert menu. Visited on a Monday night, service was excellent and the place was quiet. Possibly differs from a saturday
The food was excellent as was the dining atmosphere. The music level just perfect with great selection of jazz instrumentals. We ordered many cocktails and all of them used fresh ingredients. Must go !!
