Basil Thai Restaurant - Short North
This was our 1st visit, but it won't be our last. We took advantage of happy hour, $4 small plates, to try a couple different dishes. What a great experience and awesome food. The only hiccup was, the restaurant did not have our reservation........ they said they never got an update from open table. Luckily, it was not busy and was not an issue.
It was "just ok." We got everything we ordered all at once...even the appetizers. I'm not sure if the menu made it clear, I didn't see the upcharge for Brown rice and shrimp on the menu. The restaurant was empty and the initial person at the hostess stand couldn't have cared less to work with us. With the plethora of amazing short north food, this was just "meh" for us...
Great décor, excellent food, friendly and attentive staff. Perfect for a full meal or a quick appetizer pre/post theatre! (Note to window washers- you're not)
Absolutely wonderful and authentic food. The tempura is one of the best in town. Great curries and can adjust heat to your taste.
We went to this restaurant because of proximity to our house and a Groupon. Despite there being only about 6-8 other patrons in the restaurant, our appetizer and main entrees (Which were mediocre) took a very long time to get to us to the point that the server profusely apologized.
Had vegan options of veggie soup, veggie egg roll and red curry entrée. All amazing, and was too stuffed to finish my entrée by the time it got to me! Also have Blue Moon on tap! Reccommend greatly!
We were there during restaurant week. We ordered from the restaurant week menu so I am not sure if this made a difference or not. We both had the traditional Thai order - vegetable roll and pad thai. Vegetable rolls were extremely greasy. Yes, they are fried in oil but this was way beyond the normal oil/grease levels. My pad thai had been sitting for a while. The chicken and noodles on top were dried out to the point of being crunchy around the edges. No real taste to the meal either. The drinks, however, were very good - not watered down. I was always curious about Basil, now I can take it off my list.
Great place. The food and service was exceptional. There was a little mildew smell when you walk in but only by the door. The sweet potato fries were outrageously delicious.
Excellent food & service, with many vegan & gluten-free options!
The chicken and shrimp in the Pad Thai was over cooked. Sauce was great though.
Our server was super sweet and very kind but, he was taking care of the whole restaurant at lunch alone and I think it was too much for him to handle. It would have been nice to see the hostess or management going out to pre-bus, fill waters, check on table etc. Other than that, food was excellent and timely.
The food was horrible. I did not think you could ruin a salad. Not fresh or pleasant tasting. Nice atmosphere.
Server was very accommodating. I ordered a Great Lakes and the keg ran out after they had poured 9/10's of the beer. She gave me what they poured and another beer and just charged me for one. The food was delicious and we had a great time!
Went with family in town...great meal and good service.
The cocktails left a lot to be desired, and most of the food as well. The egg rolls and sweet potato tempura were rather good, but my entrée was disappointing and tasted rather bland despite me getting a level of three spiciness.
As always, the food was creatively prepared with small plates reasonably priced for happy hour. Our server was disinterested and inattentive and generally seemed confused.
