We invite you to celebrate refined Thai cuisine and an invigorating dining experience in the heart of Charleston, Mt Pleasant and Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC. Basil is the realization of the lifelong dream of Henry and Chai Eang, brothers who immigrated to the United States from turbulent 1970s Cambodia. From speaking not a word of English, to creating award-winning dining experiences throughout the Carolinas, the duo has married hard work with passion to bring authentic Thai cuisine to their new home. Since opening the first Basil in Charleston to rave reviews, several trendy locations have followed over the last dozen years. Basil’s infectious atmosphere centers around a dynamic kitchen as the sound of heat to metal, blade to board and liquid to flame resonate throughout the restaurant. Each space stylishly appointed to reflect the culture and energy of the noteworthy Southern cities they inhabit.

One of my “go-to” restaurants in columbia. Reservations on OPEN TABLE were honored including our seating location choice. The food was hot and flavorful as always, though we miss the 5 levels of spice that used to be on the table. Our server was knowledgeable and professional. Overall a good experience.

Our waiter was amazing! She made great recommendations and told us about the specials/new items coming to the menu. She was very attentive and provided excellent service. The food was delicious and I’m looking forward to my next visit.

Food as always was excellent. Unfortunately restaurant had no hot tea nor did they offer decaf coffee (strange). Offered no gluten free accommodation in preparing entree. Waitress seemed uncaring

I eat there pretty often. The food is always tasty and prepared with just the right amount of”heat” for me. Last night was special as my guests were my daughter, celebrating a birthday, and her wife. I made reservations through Open Table so the hostess was aware of my seating preference and that this was a special occasion. Our server, Michelle, was attentive and professional but not intrusive, and the courses were served exactly at the appropriate times. All-in-all, this was another great evening at Basil Thai.
