I think one of the kitchen staff was the only waiter working the lunch rush. He tried hard but had to leave without getting my meal. My appetizer was good though.
Basil is one of our favorite places to go for dinner. The food is excellent, and it is never too crowded or too loud. The restaurant also has a nice patio for outdoor eating.
My friends wine choice was not on the list however the bartender made her a pomegranate martini which she enjoyed. Would recommend happy hour. Two of us split a meal and it was delish.
Waited 40 minutes upon arrival for wine and then the waitress brought out the wrong bottle. She was the only waitress there that night and was walking around in workout clothes. When we expressed disappointment in the lack of service she did not offer any solutions and reported there wasn’t a manager available to discuss concerns. Will not return there.
Service was poor, food seemed dry and reheated, entryway not really marked so originally we were unsure if we were at the right place. Waitress seemed irritable and kept correcting us.
Basil is one of our favorite restaurants. All of the curry recipes are delicious and the appetizers are great too. I strongly recommend the pineapple chicken curry.
Went on Valentines Day and food was very good but the spice level was over the top- order 0 or 1 on scale 1-4. Liquor inventory was terrible.
Great food and good service
It was hard to find. No valet or on street parking. No obvious signage. When we entered , no hostess to greet us. Stated some food items shown on menu were not available, because the owner took them off because he Thor soup was causing back up inFood was pretty good and server was excellent
We were visiting Columbus for Red, White, & Boom and knew restaurants might be crowded in town -- so we made reservations via Open Table and received a confirmation for Monday, July 3rd at 7:00 pm. Walked to the restaurant only to find they weren't open. Seems to me if a restaurant is going to close, they at least ought to have the courtesy to the public to not take reservations. Not an example of competent customer handling, in my view.
I had eaten at Basil Thai in the SN, and, while I loved the food, I disliked the loud, frenzied atmosphere. I was thrilled to find that Basil in the Brewery District has the same delicious food and a much quieter atmosphere.
We were the only people in the place; mid-afternoon on a Saturday. Weather was beautiful and we ate on the patio. Nice experience.
They had a party so there was a wait for our service but luckily not too long to get our food since we ordered a lot. Food was all great and I'll definitely be back!
The food was exceptional and our server was awesome, however getting there right at 4:00 we were the only guests in the place. The bartender was bickering and arguing loudly, cussing/f-bomb with her boyfriend and another man that was there, which was an uncomfortable experience. That alone would deter us from returning to Basil, which is too bad because the location right near the Shadowbox is great, our server was great as was the food!
Took longer than average to get our drinks and food.
Very poor service. It took our waitress 20 minutes to even greet us and bring us waters. We have to hunt her down in order to find silverware napkins, she didn't ask us once how our food was or offer us more cocktails. However, the food was decent. I wouldn't return to this establishment or recommended it to a friend.
My fiance and I enjoyed our evening at Basil Thai. We had great drinks, a nice meal, and lovely service. The menu had a small variety and the kitchen was very accommodating to our vegan and nut allergy restrictions. We went on a weekday day and the ambiance was perfect - friendly and upbeat without being overly energetic or too dull. There were other patrons, but it was not over crowded. I would recommend Basil Thai to friends and family.
The food was good and service was excellent. But, the pricing strategy was too high for the menu this restaurant has to offer.
I thought Basil delivered on every front. Clean and complex Thai flavors, with careful spicing to order. If you like it hot, you are in the right place but if you like it not hot, then that is there as well, while still delivering on the fun Thai flavors. Good happy hour menu, though we were there for dinner. The Eggplant Basil was outstanding, with deep rich tones, and a hint of sweet to compliment the Asian eggplant. The Grilled Vegetable Salad was also a hit, nice smokey grilled flavor with basil and a Thai lime dressing. Really not a salad in the conventional sense, more like a quick grilled vegetable saute, it can stand as a full on entree. Definitely worth trying! The Tom Ka Coconut soup was satisfying and still light, with the coconut milk, lime, lemongrass, and fish sauce married perfectly. We ordered the bowl and had enough for 4 adults to have more than a full cup of soup. The Red Curry Salmon was good, salmon clean and cooked to perfection, but served on a rather straight ahead Thai red curry, it just didn't stand out compared to the other dishes. This is not to say that the dish was bad at all. In fact, it was excellent in terms of presentation and execution. Just that the flavors weren't as interesting in contrast.
The ambience is....a little strange. The space was obviously a brew pub before Basil took it over, and it has no noticeable decor that would identify the restaurant as Thai, and definitely had the feel of a brew pub as you were sitting in the space. Still the space was well laid out, with a beautiful bar, and nice hardwood tables and seating that was simple, but elegant, laid out to be cozy without being tight. The floor was a treat of hardwood end grain tiles, unique and very pretty. It appeared as if there was a wonderful covered patio for dining outside during the summer. The patio is open on a walkway only, so diners will not be subject to traffic noise or emissions.
Overall, the experience was definitely 4+ stars.
We went for my moms birthday and when we got there at 6:15, the restaurant was empty. We were concerned but then the waiter took great care of us and made great suggestions! We had a great time and the place was decorated perfectly. I would definitely recommend Basil!
Really good food. Restaurant was empty, but takeout orders still made it so we had to wait 30+ min for food. Music was too loud given the place was empty.
Even though there were only four other people in the whole restaurant, service was terrible and the food was not prepared as requested. The biggest issue was the bathroom. It was disgusting. Truly gross. When we left we all worried about having eaten the food there.
Food and cost was good. Service was horrible especially since it wasnt even that busy. My girlfriend and i ate the apps with only set of silverware and napkin that we shared. We ordered a bottle of wine which the waitress didnt even pour for us. Disappointed with the service.
This had to be my worst OpenTable experience. Let's start with service. The waitress came to the table no fewer than four times to make sure she had the order correct. I ordered Lad Na and hot Jasmine tea. My waitress forgot to bring the honey and didn't remember to bring it to the table until eight minutes after she dropped off the drinks. Entrees took 20 minutes even though there were maybe six tables seated in the entire restaurant.
The food was awful. My tea was either improperly or the diffuser was defective. The bottom of my tea cup was completely black from the amount of loose tea leaves. The aforementioned honey came in a plastic bear bottle that was extremely sticky to the touch, hadn't been cleaned and the honey inside was mostly crystallized -- it couldn't be poured requiring a portion be cut off using the serving spoon included with my silverware, which was as large as the tea cup. I had requested my Lad Na be served spicy -- it wasn't. The chicken was tender. However, the noodles were bland, overly thick and stuck together. The vegetables were unevenly cooked. The American broccoli was undercooked and crunchy to the bite while the Asian broccoli was overcooked and wilted. Everything was slathered in an abundance of flavorless, brown, gelatinous gravy.
The ambience was fine for a rustic brew pub serving beer and burgers. There was nothing reminiscent of Thailand.
The restaurant was picked based on location for a business lunch. I now know why there were so few patrons during lunch. I couldn't pay the bill and leave fast enough.
