This is a belated review for my dining experience from JUST BEFORE comrade DeWine shut everything down.
There were 6 of us and I don’t remember much about what we had except the fried eggplant appetizer. It was so good we ordered a second!
Service is always friendly and prompt. The food is good (though I could stand a little more Asian authenticity!)
Best bar staff in town. I love this place and I can’t wait for them to open up again.
Service was good. Water and drinks regularly checked on. Food is always excellent.
Wonderful experience. Great food. Comfortable surroundings
Excellent food! Best sushi around. We frequent Basil as one of our favorite places.
Food was fantastic as usual! The service though, was very bad. She left is sit forever. Never came to check on us and refills took forever to get.
As we were sitting there eating the smell of cigarettes became overwhelming. We thought they allowed smoking inside. However, the employees were standing at a door behind us smoking!
The food is wonderful, the service needs mass improvement.
Absolutely loved the food! The waitress and staff were awesome. We'll definitely be returning visitors.
Attended with 3 vegans. 2 ordered dishes and were very pleased: fried eggplant and tofu stirfry. 2 of us ordered sushi and sushi rolls. Both of us were disappointed. The special order vegetable roll was puny. So much so another was ordered. We should have sent it back with instructions to fill it with as much vegetables as a roll can hold, but we had an event to attend and didn’t have time to wait for the fix. The sushi platter fish wasn’t a pleasant texture, the rice was not formed well to support the fish, and the rolls were the size of a taquito, filled with the minimum. Overall, 2 felt the portions were fair and delicious. The other 2 felt disappointed. It was my second visit, but first time ordering sushi there.
Delicious meal and attentive service.
The food is consistently good. Basil is our "go to" restaurant that never disappoints. We tried a sushi roll from the new sushi chef and were very pleased. We look forward to trying new rolls and sashimi in the future.
The food is always good but the service is worse every time we visit. There were 4 of us dining this time and 3 of the meals were wrong. There was no sushi available because the sushi chef had walked out and quit. The server was very apologetic. It just seems to get worse and worse. It’s a shame because their food is really good and the ambiance is great. It’s a great addition to downtown Hamilton. Management just needs to get a handle on the service issues/order accuracy. It’s been every single time we’ve been there so sadly, we won’t return.
Great as always
Great service great food every time
First of all, the service was fantastic & the food was great! However, I had a reservation for 6:45, but wasn’t seated until 7:30. Waiting nearly an hour with a party of 8 was and is unacceptable. There were other smaller parties with reservations that had to wait as well. Then, when we were seated, we were put in our own room, which smelled disgustingly like the bathrooms.
I was close to cancelling our table, and wish I had. Between the long wait, the bathroom room we were in, and the fact that it was not a cheap meal—I wish I would have changed my plans.
We usually love basil. Last night was awful.
We came in and they(staff) were upset they had to seat us with reservations before the people that were waiting.
We sat for 15 minutes at a table before anyone noticed us, and then finally someone asked if anyone has helped us yet.
We went specifically for sushi and their chef had left so they didn’t have any. Don’t get your hopes up for it.
It was ridiculously loud and we counted how many dishes they broke while we were their . (6) a coffee cup actually came flying out of the kitchen doors at a table and broke.
It was a mad house, the staff was running around like crazy!
We literally couldn’t wait to leave.
Great food and great service.
Nobody came to table for 15 minutes after we were seated. We had to get up and ask who our server was. Table was too large for 4 of us.
As always, the food and service at Basil were excellent! The pad thai is an absolute favorite; it's consistently fantastic and the portion leaves plenty for leftovers.
Food good, but slow.
Server acted like he could remember orders without paper, then messed it up. Had to wait over 20 minutes for my burger to be cooked the way I requested it the first time. They did comp it, but server couldn’t care less- no apology. He almost had an attitude because I was upset that I couldn’t actually eat with my family at the same time.
I have eaten there four times.
The service alway has been very good to great. The food is very good and always seems to be served in a very timely manner. Considering the restaurant is not what I would consider to be expensive, I feel one gets an outstanding value for their money.
This was our 5th visit to Basil and we were not disappointed. The food has always been excellent. Austin, our server, was very good - attentive but not hovering, and I enjoyed his wine recommendation, the Joel Gott Cab. The Spicy Peanut Curry remains my favorite thing on the menu. All four of us had something different and were very happy with our choices. I will continue to dine here and recommend it heartily. My only complaint is the noise level. It seems the least noisy areas are the booths on the left as you enter. The atmosphere is lively - just a bit too loud.
Made a 6:30 pm reservations for a table of 4, Friday night. We waited 25-30 minutes to be seated. Once seated, we received great service. Our server was Austin. He checked back in with us every 5-10 minutes. The bill was under $50 for each couple! We were all full when we left. Amazing food. (Worth the wait.)
Food was very good Sashima was excellent! Service was fair but OK for a busy Friday evening.
Very good meal. Our server was great
Great food. Good local place to eat !
Getting together with family
It was good
Amazing! Service was top notch and food was delicious!
Great food, great service and fantastic atmosphere.
Great! First time and won’t be the last
I have had the hibachi fried rice many times it tasted good but lacked the amount of vegetables it normally has. My husband's brown rice was severely under cooked so bad it was crunchy. The hostess said she would bring us menus and never came back. When our waitress came she said we are out of menus and I will find you some. I know restaurants are busy on New Year's Eve but I feel they couldn't handle the crowd. The food did come out quickly but not up to the standards it usually does. And yes we did have reservations. WQe have eaten here about 12 times
Bar area hopping
Always pleasant experience!
We got to basil at 6:05 for a 6:15 reservation. We were told that our table was ready but a few minutes later were told that they sat another party by accident. We were finally sat at 6:35 and placed in the corner of the restaurant with a table almost touching ours. Our server did promptly get our drink order but then took quite some time to return to bring them. It should be noted our drinks sat at the computer docket for a long time before it was delivered. Our servicer asked for our orders however didn’t write anything down. Roughly 5 minutes later he came back multiple times asking for clarification on our orders. At 7:25 our food arrived. One of the members of our party received the incorrect order but was told by the server “I got it wrong because 99.5% of the time people order with steak”. There was no apology about the order nor offer to compensate for the order. At 7:46 that members food (Hot Pepper Chicken, no steak) arrived. It was handed to this member over another member of our party’s head and no apology was given for then. The server never came to check back on the order. At 8:15 the server came back to ask if we’d like a check. There were multiple plates that needed boxes. Thankfully some of the other staff asked if they could take the plates away and asked if we needed boxes. We were given our check with no apology about the wait, long wait time for food or even the incorrect order. We frequent Basil almost monthly but it looks like we’ll be going somewhere else for the foreseeable future.
Service was very slow
Service was outstanding. Food was great. Only comment is heat level (spice) on food was a little more than advertised. Prices were good. My wife was able to find gluten free options.
My first time AND it was my birthday choice. Not disappointed. Excellent food and service.
Everything was delicious! Can’t beat the wine deal on Wednesdays! Monica is the best!
We were celebrating a family members birthday and it turned out to be a wonderful experience!
A huge menu that the servers indicate everything is good. The quality of food is good. It is evident they want to be a cut above with the quality of food for the Hamilton community. Sushi was very good as well as our main dishes.
Must have caught them on an off-night. Waters were always empty. My entree portion was half of my significant others. Service was slow and not mindful of our table. Perhaps she had too many? Definitely didn’t feel like the special night with our friends that we wanted. But we’ve had good experiences in the past. Will try again. Just not for some time.
seating was a little tight only 8 of 10 people were present would not have had enough room for 10 at the table. Other wise was a very enjoyable experience
