Basalt Restaurant @ Dukes Lane Market and Eatery
BASALT is a Waikiki restaurant that embraces our local Island culture. We salute our life-long heritage of multiculturalism. And yet, we love to introduce unique ways to look at local cuisine by introducing International flavors and unusual pairings to intrigue and delight our guests.
BASALT’s aim is to involve you, excite you, and captivate you. Our Asian-influenced Global cuisine will consistently remind you of why the Hawaiian Islands are a special place of Aloha… to be, experience, and love.
It's the first time to have a dinner there. The dishes, especially beef tenderloin was so delicious. I came to know Basalt is managed by ABC Store in Hawaii.
Food was good but I was starving afterwards, just not enough food for cost
Food was delicious. They made drinks as we requested. Agreed that the charcoal buns were wonderful!
Great food & service at a great price on Happy hour
The food was great. The charcoal rolls are not to be missed! Prices are average for Waikiki. Parking is validated. The service was better than many places in the area. We will be returning.
Food was delicious, service was great! Great to see a 'hands-on' manager (Sang) helping out, too! The musician that evening was awesome. Will definitely be back!
Food is great. Waitstaff needs better managers
Awesome food and service!
Basalt has both a bar and restaurant menu and they have inside and outside seating. The service was efficient and attentive to our table. It is next to some other food places and a market. They had live music, which added a lot to the ambiance. I tried the Mahi Mahi market selection, which was prepared on rice and was delicious. The Portuguese "charcoal" rolls were unappetizing in color and they were tasteless. They were the only downside of the meal. This place is a good value compared to other Waikiki restaurants and has a good vibe. I would go back again.
Prime rib was exceptional! Two thumbs up for the dinner rolls! Kudos to Max (our waiter) and he is a true professional!
I really enjoyed the brunch menu and food. Luan was a great server, very attentive and personal. Being seated outside was lovely, however the drone of the AC for the building next door was noticeable. I will eat there again.
Great as always. This time we sat outside. It was a Mon with deliveries with lots of trucks and diesel. Much better inside. Food and service is always wonderful!
Fantastic food and music. My wife and I had a great meal, sitting outside while there was an eclipse. Harry (guitarist/singer) provided added ambiance and it really made for a special night. Mahalo
We shared an order of scallops. They were excellent. Our server, Juan, was attentive but not obtrusive. We did have to wait for our entree but it was worth it. We have dined at this location in the past and it has always been good. Keep up with the high level of quality for the price.
Arrived in time for Sunset Special which was $39 for Lobster bisque or salad, prime rib or scallops, and chocolate mousse or lilikoi creme brulee. the food was excellent and the price was too! Primate rib was perfectly medium.Place was busy, but wasn't very noisy. Server was attentive without hovering. Water glasses were kept filled. Will be back!
First of all this restaurant is in an open market area next to a grocery, a burger joint, and other shops. It's not a romantic intimate area. The 'live music' is a lady playing a ukelele on the patio area. The food was abysmal and wayway too salty. Extremely poor for the price. Our waiter didn't introduce himself or seem to care that we weren't pleased with our food. We saw him being much more professional to an older couple next to us. Would never go again. You'll probably have a better time at the lava tube across the street.
Good small plates. Wide assortment to choose from
Wait staff was attentive
Fantastic cuisine, very pleasant atmosphere and perfectly attentive service. My favorite restaurant in Waikiki.
The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the menu had great options. Servers were very nice and didn’t rush us. The seafood was well-prepared and very tasty.
Our server was friendly and accommodating. Since this was our first time at Basalt, my friend and I wanted to share a variety of dishes: kalua pig quesadillas, corn chowder soup, house salad, and peppered turkey and bacon sandwich.
All of these were delicious but way too much food for us for lunch. We'll go back again but will keep in mind that the servings are generous.
Second visit to Basalt. Not disappointed. Good ingredients, put together beautifully and deliciously.
Went while on vacation. Good live music and food. Have the dinner seafood special which was well executed and reasonably priced. Wine flight options were fun
Lobster bisque tasted like turtle soup everything else was okay
Great early bird prix fixe menu!
Amazing service and knowledge of menu
Our host mike was very good!
Food was very good.A glass of champagne or wine should be part of the New Year’s Eve pre fixed dinner.
Amazing dinner. Loved everything, menu is well thought out and good value. The live music really makes for an entertaining night, only wish is that it would last past 9pm. Have been for both breakfast and dinner. Both are exceptional. Try the charcoal pancakes! Delicious.
Excellent restaurant. Fun environment but stay inside. Outside seating is on a side street looking at a garage.
Prime Rib is so good you will want to return just to try it again. The black salt buns are unbelievable. Out of our 5 meals all were great. Shrimp were a bit over cooked and not overly exciting. Wine list really nice.
Always great! Just Love Shayna...great service!
Very centrally located in Waikiki area and lots of people watching.
Best meal in Honolulu! Food was spectacular. Flavorful and delicious!
Live music was wonderful!! It felt so nice to sit on the patio and listen after a long day in the sun and walking around. And the food was great, all 7 of us were satisfied with our choices.
First of all, we waited 35 minutes past our reservation time which already annoyed me. Second the TWO hostesses clearly didn’t know how to handle the guests. There were 2 then 3 then 4 open tables while we waited. She suggested we sit at the bar and wait so we did. Bartenders were pretty fast in serving us. When our table was finally ready, the hostess said we have to close our bill at the bar first before she would seat us, I told the rest of my party (2 of them) to go sit down while I did this. I was already annoyed having to do this and asked why they couldn’t just add it to our bill. The hostess said “Sorry, it’s 2 different servers”. So. WE are accommodating THEIR servers when it should be the other way around!!! When I asked the bartender for our tab he said “Gimme a minute” and ignored me for 4 minutes. I left and sat down with my party which was at a table closest to the bar area! I figured he can find me right?! It took him 15 minutes to come to our table and then we cleared our tab. Our server and the food was the only saving grace in this restaurant. I wished I got his name because he was really great - he had a slight French accent. The food was almost worth the earlier issues we had to put up with. I’m not sure I would go back because there are so many other restaurants that have great food AND great service. This is not one of them.
Great menu and very fresh, excellently-prepared dishes.
Keep in mind that this is a typical tourist place with less than average tourist food and average to less than average service. Kudos to the maitre d at the entrance: personable, friendly, and helpful with selecting a table. The dark bread was warm, but bereft of any flavor. The presentation of the beet salad looked great, but lacked any discernible flavors. Even the goat cheese was flat in flavor. Salt and pepper helped. My companion judged the heirloom tomato salad as OK with too much dressing. I had the roasted half chicken, which was overcooked - I didn't finish it. It was served with roasted corn (good) and fingerling potatoes (undercooked, bad). My companion had the lamb chops and judged them as good and cooked as ordered; and undercooked potatoes, as well. Service was glacially slow and repeated requests to "where is the food" was met with "it's coming." Numerous times I had to flagged down the primary waiter. Once you get past the chaotic entrance of the market and further in the space where the restaurant is located, the interiors aren't so bad. After I saw someone use a cart to transport about 4 or 5 roasted chickens [uncovered] outdoors toward the patio, I knew food handling might be an issue. Would I return? No. There are a lot of places in Waikiki with average to bad tourist food and bad service. Why return here?
Food was good as always but I was hoping the tasting menu would be available again. That would have gotten 5 stars!
Excellent fish preparations. Also good attention to gluten-free request. Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. We would definitely come here again when in town.
Basalt has delicious meals and sources local ingredients. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Location in Duke's lane has easy parking, and this is a hidden gem in Waikiki.
Celebrated a birthday; complimentary birthday cake to honoree. Ordered the Restaurant Week complete meal $45: lobster bisque (excellent, lots of lobster); green salad (lightly dressed and fresh); top sirloin steak (cooked just right, tender and tasty) served with fingerling potatoes and sauteed greens; goat cheese cake (light and fresh tasting). Basket of rolls, jet black, like lava - delicious. Excellent service; very attentive. Everything, including dishware, glassware, bottled water, was well planned to match their name, "Balsalt". Ask the server for the explanation of the name. Validated parking right next door at Hyatt Centric Hotel. Great new experience; a new venture from ABC stores. Smart casual, is the recommended dress code.--very appropriately matched for the food, wine and atmosphere.
