Convenient downtown Napa location. Restaurant has open floorplan and great natural light. Service was accommodating and friendly. Menu is farm to fork with wonderful fresh vegetables and seafood. The scallops were delicious. Would recommend the Brussels sprout side.
I love everything about Basalt, it’s my favorite local spot to bring out of town guests for a brunch or cocktail. The ambience and service combined with fresh, delicious food seal the deal for me every time. I LOVE sitting at the bar, so if you’re on a date or with a group of 3 or less, I recommend it! But any seat is a good one. Check them out!
I made a reservation at Basalt to meet with a client over lunch. Our server-GRANT was so great and very attentive, yet not too aggressive. We loved his style! Major Kudos to Grant! Thank you!
Over priced. It was a weeknight, very few customers but for some reason the hostess chose to seat us all right next to each other. Not a fan.
We had a great at Basalt. I recommend the best salad and the chicken sliders. We sat outside and the ambience was relaxing and lovey.
Basalt is another excellent Napa restaurant along the Napa riverfront. It has a great outdoor seating and some relatively unique cocktail and wines on tap offered. Their risotto is excellent as is the buratta as an appetizer. The pot du caramel is an outstanding dessert.
All servers ignored the table for 20 minutes while serving everyone else around. Got up and left.
Hands down the best short ribs I've ever had. My husband had the halibut and it was incredible. The food was fresh and the attention to detail was superb. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Fantastic service and great price.
We went here for my wife’s birthday dinner. The ambience was amazing. We sat outside under the stars with a view of the river. We were right on the boardwalk and it was not busy this time of year. They had the overhead patio heaters running which kept my wife happy as it was a little chilly. We had an appetizer, the beef carpaccio, delicious and light. Then, the main course was the scallops, which were delicious. We had a couple of martini’s since we tasted wine all day and those hit the spot.
Overall, very nice place to eat and great spot to people watch and close by everything downtown Napa has to offer.
Excellent service and great flavors. Would definitely return!
Located in downtown Napa, the food was fantastic- try the ahi tuna tartare, lobster risotto and carmel pot de creme. The service was great and had the perfect combination of being knowledgeable and friendly.
BEST BURGER AND AHI TUNA TOSTA EVER!!! SERVICE WAS SOOOOOOOOO ACCOMODATING AND THE CHEF TOOK CARE OF FOOD ALLERGIES WITH PLEASURE, SO REFRESHING! SITUATED RIGHT ALONG THE NAPA RIVER THE VIEWS WERE BEAUTIFUL! FOR SURE I WILL BE BACK!
We had drinks and small plates. Beet salad was excellent. Lobster risotto was very creamy.
Location of the restaurant is nice. It is on the river. Outdoor seating is enjoyable.
The food at Basalt is delicious- very fresh and flavorful. The restaurant’s ambience is nice- bustling bistro-like. Our service this evening was spotty, despite it not being particularly busy. It took maybe a half hour to receive our cocktail. The location of the restaurant along the Napa River is inviting. We dined on the patio along the promenade, which was lovely, except for the yappy dog that was at the next table. The dog barked every time waitstaff passed the table or people walked by along the promenade. This presents a difficult situation for the restaurant; it is the dog owner who should have known their dog’s behavior well enough to not include the dog in this outing. We will return- but I’d be on the watch for dogs if seated outside!
First time visiting and it was great! The Easter brunch menu was limited, as expected, but very flavorful food! Desserts, drinks, ambiance...all were great.
Lovely patio with heaters; thoughtful service; delicious food.
Basalt is a hidden gem in Napa. Their food and service are very good and the staff is very friendly. They also have great locals night once a month. It's a great place!
Food was phenomenal, but they could use some space between tables and sounds baffling.
Service seemed slow and had to ask for something one or two times before it arrived. There was a charge for bread and it was regular sourdough, given the high prices I thought there should not be a charge. Food was excellent so might come back. As a local Napa resident the prices are astonishing in all the good restaurants and cater to tourists.
From start to finish, this was an excellent evening. Our waiter understood the menu and explained the special with care. The pork belly and hamachi crude seemed an odd combo but were fantastic together. Both our entrees the halibut with chorizo special and pea shoot agnolotti were cooked perfectly with each their own unique flavors.
Terrific spot, we will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed the restaurant overall, especially due to the friendly staff. It took a while to get served after we were seated, but the server apologized (as it was a misunderstanding and she didn't know we'd ben seated in her section). From there on, the staff was kind, friendly and attentive. The tables are very near each other, so while it was just the two of us, the neighboring table had a loud person and it felt as if we were sitting with them; not really ideal for a date night. Once they left, the atmosphere seemed to improve. The dining room is loud, due to high ceilings, and overall the room is bright. I think we'll try to sit outside on the deck next time, as there is an inviting fire table there. Overall, it was a really nice evening with great food and service.
Second visit. Service and food were very good and consistent with our last visit. We will return!
Basalt continues to shine. This visit started with the Ferrer brut rose, a delicious appetite opener. We then shared the Little Hearts salad with parmesan, apple and balsamic, a delight. After, the burrata was creamy and went well with the crostini. Finally we enjoyed the grilled salmon. I gave five stars for service because we were sharing plates and John, our server, had to bring half of the plate for a glutton-free diner, and half of the plate for me. So for the burrata he recommended sliced cucumber for my date, and the crostini for me.
For the grilled salmon my date wanted it well-done while I like my salmon seared. He divided the filet in two, made sure the chef prepared them according to each preference, and was amiable and detail-orientated in his service.
Why go anywhere else in Napa?
This was our first time at Basalt and we loved it! Great food. Very creative preparations. The tomato soup with fried cheese curd and basil oil is amazing as is the roasted beet salad. Great variety of specialty cocktails. The staff is friendly and efficient. Can’t wait to return.
Best Brussel sprouts ever !!!
My two best friends and I had a wonderful girls’/moms’ getaway weekend in Napa, and this was a meal to remember. I had the salmon, and my friends had the New York steak and scallops. We shared the tuna tartare and beet salad appetizers and the caramel pot de creme and tarte tatin desserts. Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! Thank you for a great night!
They seated us at a very quiet end of the dining area. It was perfect for our group of 6. One of our guests has food allergies, and chef made sure her dish was tasty and safe. LOVE this place!
The Farm Lettuces was so amazing, I would go back to this restaurant just to have that. We also ordered the Short Ribs & Lobster Risotto. We couldn't finish the short ribs because it was such a large plate but yummy. The food was very good, but we sat out back on an enclosed patio with heaters. When they kept the door from the restaurant open it was perfect, when they shut the door it got super hot. The enclosed patio space was really loud and you sit close to one anther (along with wobbly tables). The service was good but the servers were always dodging your tables trying to get to the other ones. Wine menu is fair - just over priced. You'd be better to bring your own bottle and pay for them to uncork it. Wines by the glass paired well with the food, but again - not a wow. Being from Minneapolis where we have one of the strongest restaurant scenes, this restaurant held it's own. We'll be back, but probably just for lunch and that salad!
This is my first time visiting Napa, and Basalt was close to my hotel.
It's a very interesting restaurant with a tight menu. For appetizer, the Artisan Cheese place was very satisfying. It's an appropriate size for 2; but if your party is larger, you will need additional orders.
For dinner we ordered the Braised Short Rib and Maine Lobster Risotto. Both were VERY GOOD, although the short rib probably won. There wore flavors in that dish, but the risotto was wonderfully rich too.
Dessert was a little bit of a let down after dinner. The Meyers lemon sorbet was tart without much flavor to accompany the tartness. I had high hopes for the Caramel Pot De Crème; but this too didn't have much flavor. Maybe my palate is too unrefined to appreciate the desserts.
I'll try the restaurant again for sure. BUT I'll skip dessert.
The food was phenomenal!! Best we’ve had in Napa. Every dish was artfully prepared and perfectly balanced. The servers were really busy so we waited a bit for our water etc, but it was worth the wait. Be sure to get chocolate mouse cake with peanut brittle for dessert, it was Devine!!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, thank you, Ronnie, our server was fabulous!
Great service from start to finish. Timing on appetizer was almost immediate but a little slow on entree. The dessert course with coffee and dessert cocktail were superb. We're locals and will certainly be dinning again soon.
Food and service was amazing. All 6!of us liked our meals and all the appetizers we shared!
This was incredible! The food was amazing and bartender mixed us creative cocktails that we loved. The wine on tap was also quite fun and the ambience was beautiful. 😊❤️
Chef Sherman is extremely talented and an amazing chef! He is truly James-Beard-worthy!!!
After seeing Basalt on Instagram, this was one restaurant I wanted to visit while on vacation in Napa. I was not disappointed. The restaurant was amazing, the server was the best server that I have ever had, and the food was amazing. It was one of the best places that I have eaten in a very long time. I was also serenaded unexpectedly for my birthday....and was made to feel very special. It was a very great experience.
Friendly team, nice views and excellent food.
Server was super!! Service was very fast and the food was nice and hot!! The Food was good but a little on the salty side for us. It was a very nice restaurant but it would take a lot for me to give a 5 😀 Overall very good.
Wonderful Napa Valley restaurant with yummy everything.
