Father ‘s Day
Love this place. Just had the brunch for Father's Day. Lovely. Will be coming back for more.
They certainly pick out certain p
Our meal was very good and the wait staff were enthusiastic and helpful. The highlight was the Moroccan carrot side dish. It was unusual and delicious.
Love, love this place. Always a treat when we visit Napa. The staff is warm and inviting and the food is always delicious.
A colleague recommended this place. We ordered the pork chop and halibut for our entrees. Both were well over cooked and dry. There were maybe a hand full of other tables in the restaurant. This should not be an issue during a slow night in the middle of the week. The quality of the food was good but the cook times were off. This was a big miss on the kitchen's part.
We sat outside, riverside and were warmly greeted by several staffers. They opened our wine promptly, brought us water, took our order and delivered our delicious meal. It was a delightful evening after a hot day and a long walk to Basalt.
Food and service was excellent!!!! The only negative issue was the music. Too loud and not appropriate for the ambience . We brought this up and the front of the house mentioned they hear that a lot. Obviously, they don't think the change is necessary
Excellent food, the tuna poke was a table favorite but all of us enjoyed our mains. The only thing we found strange is that we ordered a bottle of wine and the food came before the wine.
We travel to Napa from Oregon a few times yearly. Reservation to Basalt is always made before leaving home. Love love this restaurant! Always fabulous!
Enjoyed are time at BASALT. Loved the dinner, and dessert. Loved the atmosphere. Will most definitely go back
Enjoyed the setting and the food very much! We had an asparagus salad as well as a Burrata with artichoke and pine nuts...delicious! As was our entrees of Sole and Angolotti. Unfortunately, the service was completely lackadaisical.. i really don’t like flagging someone down for another glass of wine or to come take our order. And, our check was dropped without word when we had just started eating our dessert. Super disappointed with service because all our previous experiences have been great.
Brilliant and inventive. So delicious and great service. Chef Nick Sherman kills it with variety, freshness, and inventive menu. So many great dishes. Awesome staff, great environment and location. Comfortable. Exciting. Chill. Check it out!
Delicious food. Amazing variety. Super service.
This was the best meal I've had in a long time! We were celebrating a birthday, and Basalt treated us well with exceptional service. All of our meals were delicious, but I especially enjoyed mine: perfectly-cooked petrale sole with black forbidden rice and fresh spring vegetables. Our birthday desserts were a Meyer lemon tart with a meringue border and an apple/pear galette. I am a fan of a unique and festive cocktail, and Basalt has quite a few of these. Overall, we could not have been happier with the dining experience, and we will certainly return for either a special occasion or just a casual group dinner.
We changed our reservations to sit in the bar to catch the Cavs/Rockets game 5 and they were very accommodating.
Very pleasant and positive experience. We’ll be back:)
We shared two appetizer/side dishes: Morrocan Carrots and the Brussel Sprouts. The Morrocan carrots came when expected and were really delicious. The Brussel sprouts, on the other hand, were forgotten by all of the wait staff until we had nearly finished our entrees. If you are wondering why we didn't ask for them, it's because we didn't see our waitress after the entrees came until we reminded her of the Brussel sprouts. That said, this dish was also completely delicious. I had the Snake River Farms Pork Chop (Bloomsdale spinach, mustard spatzle, kumquat marmalade) and my friend had the Roasted Petrale Sole (Forbidden Rice, Fiddlehead Ferns, Spring Vegetables, Coconut-Lemongrass Broth) for our entrees. My friend thought her entree portion was fairly small but enjoyed very much. The pork chop was very well prepared and the accoutrements that accompanied the pork were perfect. The wait staff was very attentive (even overly so) except when no one brought the side dish to the table when expected and then they were very slow with my second glass of wine, which didn't arrive in time to enjoy it with the rest of my entree.
The newest iteration of the space at 3rd and Main in Napa is trendy with high energy vibe. With both inside and outside seating it is a great place to watch the mix of tourist and locals pass by. Inside is a cool bar spaces that was certainly lively during our visit. Food was tasty with a good broad set of menu options. The cocktail list is creative, the wine by the glass off the beaten path, but the full list lite and on the high side of price. Service was pleasant but a little confused (maybe a bad night) but definitely attentive.
Typical Napa touristy foodjoint. Overpriced for the quality.
Everytime we visit Basalt it is so enjoyable. The space is open and clean. The menu is small but every item beckons you to try it. The craft cocktails are fresh and delicious. There are 20 taps with beers, wine and nitro coffee. Delicious and inviting is why we keep coming. Try the chilled asparagus appetizer and the seared scallop entree for a lite meal. Feeling indulgent, enjoy the burrata and the braised shortribs. Bring friends so you can order everything and pass the plates around.
Terrific location with view of the Napa River and local downtown action. Ambiance is great and staff is well trained and attentive. The flavors of the food here are very good and chef has some creative dishes on the menu featuring local fresh quality ingredients. Nice spot to try out downtown.
Nice outdoor seating by the river
Fantastic service and cuisine!
Everything was super good (especially the drinks) but my lobster risotto could have used more lobster.
Basalt is a downtown Napa restaurant with very good service, good ambiance and a great location. The restaurant is somewhat noisy. The food tries to be trendy and inventive and unfortunately achieves neither. I had the burrata. It came with (as I recall) a pistachio sauce, olive oil drizzle and toasted bread. The burrata was bland as was the green sauce. The toast was toast but plain and dry. There was nothing special or elevated about this dish. Compare this to the mozzarella at Brasswood in St. Helena. That is an awesome dish (not on the menu but known to locals from the old Tra Vigne. For the entree I had the Snake River Farms Pork Chop with a mustard spaetzel and spinach. Kudos to Basalt for serving Snake River Farms meat. Great stuff. The meat itself was excellent and although the overall dish was very good neither the sauce nor the temperature at which the dish arrived added to an otherwise excellent pork chop. We did not dessert.
We were disappointed.
Started with the cheese plate -- beautiful presentation, and needed to know where we could buy the cheese. Sole was superb -- a thick cut, with crispy skin, perfectly cooked, on a bed of interesting greens and a Thai sauce (on the bottom of the dish). Chicken was excellent - hearty dish, on grits with bacon and mushrooms. Good cider. Brulee was nice. Excellent wait staff. Great location. Will do it again.
Fabulous food in a fun atmosphere. The sole is phenomenal!
Concluding a vacation in Napa, our final dinner was at Basalt. The service was attentive, the menu selection was terrific and the food was exceptional. A fitting way to end our vacation. Absolutely terrific!
Overall a very good experience. Service was a little slow, but that gave us more time to visit with friends.
Great food and wine selection. Nice table close to the river.
Great location on the river in south downtown. Casual bistro style eatery with a great wine list, knowledgeable sommelier and tasty food at a reasonable price. We were there on a rainy night, but huge windows made the restaurant seem brighter than we expected. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent. We would return.
Food preparation excellent and tasty. Perfect service. Some of the best food in the valley.
Very well designed and beautiful space! Food was excellent and the cocktails were as well. Service was perfect - there when needed but nothing more. We’ll be back!
Great food, some of the worst service I’ve had in a long time. I sat at the bar alone and it took 9 min for the bartender to even acknowledge me. After that he interacted with couples at the bar but checked on me only one other time.
I came up from San Diego to celebrate my daughter 21st birthday. She is vegan and picked this lovely restaurant. I called to make sure they offered vegan choices and they said the chef will fix something special, well that wasn't true, she had to order from the menu which was a bit of a disappointment. I will definitely come back.
Best food and service I have had in Napa!
