Started with the cheese plate -- beautiful presentation, and needed to know where we could buy the cheese. Sole was superb -- a thick cut, with crispy skin, perfectly cooked, on a bed of interesting greens and a Thai sauce (on the bottom of the dish). Chicken was excellent - hearty dish, on grits with bacon and mushrooms. Good cider. Brulee was nice. Excellent wait staff. Great location. Will do it again.
Fabulous food in a fun atmosphere. The sole is phenomenal!
Concluding a vacation in Napa, our final dinner was at Basalt. The service was attentive, the menu selection was terrific and the food was exceptional. A fitting way to end our vacation. Absolutely terrific!
Overall a very good experience. Service was a little slow, but that gave us more time to visit with friends.
Great food and wine selection. Nice table close to the river.
Food preparation excellent and tasty. Perfect service. Some of the best food in the valley.
Very well designed and beautiful space! Food was excellent and the cocktails were as well. Service was perfect - there when needed but nothing more. We’ll be back!
Great food, some of the worst service I’ve had in a long time. I sat at the bar alone and it took 9 min for the bartender to even acknowledge me. After that he interacted with couples at the bar but checked on me only one other time.
I came up from San Diego to celebrate my daughter 21st birthday. She is vegan and picked this lovely restaurant. I called to make sure they offered vegan choices and they said the chef will fix something special, well that wasn't true, she had to order from the menu which was a bit of a disappointment. I will definitely come back.
Best food and service I have had in Napa!
Best complete dinner we have in a long time
Very pleasant and friendly.
Basalt is a really nice venue - good views, nice interior, professional service, and a really good location. The salads, scallops, and pork chop were all properly prepared. That’s just it, for roughly $120 you get good, nothing jumps out to say, special. And with so many options serving similar food, why go back?
Loved the greens salad! Food was all ver good. Nice location and ambiance!
We were all excited to try Basalt for our Easter brunch. We were seated by a lovely, polite young woman. Great start! We waited for 30 minutes and never met our server. No one asked for our drink order. Nada. Or if we had questions about the menu. Zilch. A couple was seated next to us and was approached by a server within minutes. My fiancé caught his attention and asked him to our table to inform him we’d been waiting over 30 minutes. Kyle introduced himself, apologized for our plight and went to get our server. He came back and told us our server’s name was Alex, asked us if he could take our order in the meantime. He, we thought, had salvaged the experience. The food was a mixed bag. The French fries and ahi poke appetizer were the star of the table but the short rib hash was almost inedible, the deviled eggs were meh, the salad was wilty and the smoked salmon toast didn’t seem completely fresh. The last straw was when the Eggs Benedict came way over cooked. My sister told the server, Alex, the problem who went to retrieve the manager. I don’t recall her name but she was very nice. She apologized, wished us a happy Easter and comped our entire bill. Alex returned to our table and told us we were welcome to leave anytime. Really? On my way out I tipped Kyle and thanked him for being the shining star of our horrible experience.
While the Easter Brunch menu was limited (3 options for each of the first two courses and 2 options for dessert), the food was very good and reasonably priced for Easter in Napa. Service was very attentive.
Really loved every bite. Bread was terrific. Soup was beyond good. Scallops awesome. Wine good.
Been coming to Basalt more than two years and I must say that last night’s dining experience was the best so far.
As always started the evening with bubbly, the Roederer Estate was dry to the palate.
The first dish was the young leaf lettuce salad. The feta cheese, creamy dressing with a hint of lemon and the sliced grapes gave contrast and texture. Delightful!
Then the carpaccio with an almost-creamy cheese and plentiful arugula was delicious. Paired with the Petite Syrah the result was exceptional.
The third plate was the grilled octopus, the hint of burned wood gave just enough contrast. Also paired with the PS.
Finally the yellow fin and pork belly plate. Who’d have thought that these two go well together? But they do!!!
The chef at Basalt must really be a lover of what he does because the time he dedicates to creating creative dining experiences shows.
I can give him no greater compliment then to assure him I will be back.
Grossly over-priced for what you get - $5 for seven half slices of bread. $25 corkage was an insulting ripoff especially after consuming a very pricey round of cocktails!!!
Canceled upcoming brunch reservations consequently!
There are too many other far better choices in Napa to spend one's money.
It was my daughter’s birthday. Food was wonderful craft cocktails outstanding
Food was excellent as well as cocktails. We had the Salmon and the Scallops.
We had a wonderful time. The food was fresh and tasty and I loved the ambience.
This was our first visit & it was delightful. It is a very neat looking space & the menu is varied. We shared the Moroccan Carrots as well as the Meatballs for our appetizer then between the 4 of us we had the Lobster Risotto, the Short Rib, Burger & Strip steak. Everything was delicious (except the steak was cooked rare/medium rare instead of the medium as ordered so they had to cook it a bit more). It’s nicely situated on the Napa River with convenient parking in the area.
We were there on Saturday night. Great place! Menu is short but very though through. From the appetizers to the dessert , everything was very delicious, the chicken dish and scallops were very well cooked and so flavorful. Next time in Napa we’ll be back and by the way the waitress was also perfect, big smile and very attentive to our needs.
Go there , you won’t regret it!
Nice menu, great service. Portions were a bit small for the price. Great location.
Our first time at this restaurant and we were impressed with the quality of the food. We had a Maine Lobster Risotto which was very good. We also had the King Salmon which was excellent and , I think, the best King Salmon I have had in the Napa Valley; I would say, though, that the portion was small for a dinner entree'. We also enjoyed a Roasted Beet Salad (very good) and the Rock Shrimp Fritto Misto (good). The Wine List is very limited as is the Wine By The Glass selections. There is one thing that we found to be very TACKY and that is- no bread is offered at table. It is offered on the Menu for an additional $5.00. I have dined throughout the Greater Bay Area and this is the first time that I have encountered this.Reminds me of fees that Airlines like to add onto their ticket prices. For this reason, I hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
Everything was wonderful with one exception. The background music didn't fit the general vibe of the restaurant and was loud and distracting. The food was great, the service was prompt and attentive.
Overall a very good experience, good service and food. Only drawback was that they had run out of certain drinks.
I went for brunch and the menu had such great selections that both my guest and I had a hard time deciding what to order. Service was so professional that when you ask for more coffee, the server doesn't top off the cup, s/he brings a newly filled cup! I had the shrimp and grits which had a poached egg on top - really delish. Desserts are good too but almost too much after the great meal.
I ordered the chicken breast that came with one of the best sides that I think was a mix of Risotto spinach and ham. Perfect flavor balance. Wife ordered the Lobster Risotto which was very good my daughter had the kids meatball and pasta which she loved. Daughter wasn’t on the best behavior but the staff was pretty patient. She’s only 20 months.
Will be back again. This was my fourth or fifth time here and the food has been great every time.
So much fun on a Sunday night! Phenomenal / fun meal. Can’t wait to return
Consistently delicious food. Good atmosphere, great bar
Really enjoyed Sunday brunch. Cocktails, wines by the glass reasonably priced.
This was my 2nd time at Basalt, previously for dinner and this time for brunch. The food is excellent and the house cocktails are worth the trip alone.
Consistently great service and culinary creativity here. Menu changes often depending on seasonal veggies, etc. - chef keeps it fun. One of my most favorite restaurants in Napa. Of course will be back, as always.
Great place. Delicious food, well stocked bar, and great service. Everyone in our party was impressed.
Great food but I think we got the B team for service. The views of the river are great. The drinks are unique and good. I'd try it again for sure.
A fantastic Valentine’s meal with friends.
This was mine & my fiancés first visit to Basalt. We went for valentines dinner & weren't dissapointed. Our food was delicious & wait staff was attentive. I didn't give 5 stars because I thought our waiter could of been a little more upbeat. He wasn't rude by any means, just a little blah.
