Great craft beers created by this establishment. We all ordered different food for dinner and everyone at the table was very happy with their choices whether it was the burger, the burrata & strawberry salad or the chicken po-boy. Great French fries and attention to the details in the ingredients used in their food. Friendly service and laid back vibe. This is our third time at this brewpub and we were not disappointed.
Went before the seeing theater production. We were seated right away. Bar and food service was extremely good. Our server knew we were on a timeframe and took terrific care of us. Menu had something for everyone in our group of 5. All meals were brought out at same time and were all fresh and hot. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Beer and wine list had something for everyone. We will be back again. Overall very positive experience.
Great food and service!
Great food and beer choices
Our food was forgotten about. Only 1/2 of it came out within 1.5 hrs. They did comp the food and what did come out was tasty.
Don't think I'd go back, unfortunately.
The staff were very helpful - but the rest of our visit was not so good.
Starters and mains were ordered, both came out together. I ordered a pizza, which really could not be described as a pizza. The concept sounded good, brie and mushroom - but what was delivered a mash up of a fruit salad, leaves and bread - so a mushroom and brie open sandwich. Overall food was disappointing, but then you really do get what you pay for.
The noise level was deafening, and certainly not the place to go if you want to talk with your fellow diners - not a critisism just a statement of fact.
Back to the staff, they really were very good and tried their best to make good of what was a disappointing evening.
Went to Bartlett Hall for the first time with a group of friends for a pre-movie dinner and I would definitely go back. The menu was diverse, the food and overall service was quick, and the prices were not bad for the union square area.
Convenient place to dine before catching a show at the Curran or ACT Theaters on Geary (only a 1 1/2 blocks away). I recently went to Bartlett Hall as part of a group of 7. I was unimpressed by the hostess (who forgot I was at the bar, after she promised to come get me when my table was ready) and the bartender (completely unfriendly; practically threw the drink menu at me). Our wait person was fine. The pizza and salad were good. The pork chop was only ok. Our tab included a service charge but also included a tip calculator that didn't factor in the service charge (i.e., calculated a 15% tip on the entire bill, ignoring the fact that tip was already included in our bill). Still... not a lot of table-service, sit-down options in this neighborhood, so I'll probably be back.
I like this place. The food is pub food and well executed. We went pre theater and our waiter was excellent. It is loud, but sitting next to your companion does make conversation easier. The management took care to give us the table we desired in our reservation. They make their own beer and it is pretty nice. TVs are on but no sound.
The beer was good but food and service was sub par at best. Menu is not up to date on open table.
Fun environment but subpar food. Undercooked pizza, mediocre salads. The shishito peppers were good, pretzel terrible.
Horrible service. Not friendly and all food including appetizer, salads and mains came out at the same time. Inattentive server. Not recommended
Food was excellent and the service too. Just happened to be in the area and found this gem.
On Open Table it states that they were having a Mother’s Day Brunch but there was not one. When we asked our server he said rudely “this is what we are serving” pointing at the menu that showed “lunch”. He didn’t even explain or ask if we were expecting brunch. Instead of just leaving we decided to order a drink and when we asked for a Tito’s Bloody Mary, he “snorted” and said we only have “blah blah blah”. When we asked for the check he didn’t say anything just dropped off the check. Even if their food is good, I won’t know or try because he was the rudest server and put a bad taste in our mouth for this place. Terrible!
Chicken was a little heavy.
Over priced, poor service, mediocre food, would never go back
Bartlett Hall is a favorite in spite of the neverending staff turnover.
Two bartenders Monday evening did not speak English very well and ordering a glass of wine was too much for either of them to comprehend.
Server Martha was very good and attentive and could possibly train the deadbeats behind the bar.
My husband and I booked a table for our pre-theatre dinner last night. It was one of the least memorable meals I've had in a long time! Drinks we just adequate, food was bland and boring. The menu lacked fresh and healthy choices and anything even a tiny bit innovative. There are so many other good choices in the area, we'll be sure to go elsewhere for our next night out.
We chose this restaurant for our pre-theater dinner for two reasons: (1) it is close to the Union Square theaters and (2) it is inexpensive for the area. The food was fine, nothing super-special but nothing horrid either. Wine prices were reasonable, a great Amador red for only $8 a glass, which was a surprise to find.
We really enjoyed our fish & Chips lunch. The fish was crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside, perfect. I had the sweet potato French fries which are the best I ever had.
We had a great waiter, very attentive.
A great lunch. We will be back.
Always a good choice in this area where there’s too many tourist traps for food.
I've been here a couple of times, super convenient downtown location without being full of tourists. Buffalo Cauliflower is great, not over cooked and falling apart. The burger meat is tasty, but medium is really medium rare.
I went to Bartlett Hall on a Saturday for brunch with a group of girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. Everyone's food - including my French toast - was quite good, and we were able to reserve a table for a large group and stay for a while without being bothered or rushed out. BUT, the service overall was rather poor. Two friends ordered coffee. One came out right away (before the meal) while my other friend had to wait until the very end of the meal to receive hers, despite asking numerous times for it. Two friends had also made changes to their dish when ordering, but the food they received did not reflect those changes. All in all, good food but poor service.
Great food, good choice, very noisy on St Patrick’s Day. Good beer , enjoyed the visit but would have preferred less noise. Good for every day and friends, not a romantic venue
Food was ok. Seemed a bit overpriced for the overall quality. We had the wings and the bratwurst sandwich. Both were decent, but nothing special. The beer on the other hand was delicious. I had the chocolate porter, and my wife had the saison. Both were very flavorful and enjoyable.
Delicious and an excellent value!
The service was fairly bad and the so was the food. The noise level was also ridiculous, making it almost impossible to hold a conversation. But the booze was good.
Good food, excellent service.
Arrived 5 minutes early to be told they can not seat me until my reservation. Really? Just dumb is all that was. I have never had that happen before. Way to incentivize your patrons to show up late. Not going back.
A good place for lunch. Food and service were both good.
The best "non-meat" burger I've ever had! Usually veggie burgers fall apart. The "Impossible Burger" stays together and if I didn't know better I would have thought I was eating a regular burger. Also wonderful sweet potato fries. Our server Patrick Coleman was stellar!!!
Came here on a Tuesday at noon for a team lunch, where they were able to seat our group of 8. We ordered several appetizers to share (buffalo cauliflower, so good!) and entrees for ourselves; everything was delicious and came on time. Their beer and cocktail selection was also very good. Would recommend!
Good downtown, especially before a show at one of the nearby theaters. Great food, good drink selection. Takes reservations, which a big plus when trying to make a show. Highly recommend.
Fine. It was food. We needed to eat. Expectations are low this close to union square.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere of Bartlett Hall! We were seat at the window to the left of the fireplace. The back part of the restaurant appeared to mostly be high tops and community seating. Even for having the football game on, we were still able to have conversation and hear background music.
As far as food goes, the portions were huge! Our server was kind enough to split our salad and entree. We ordered the cauliflower buffalo wings, fries, kale salad, and salmon. All were delicious.
Cocktails seemed a little sweet but very tasty.
Would definitely go back!
Went there on a weekend for a late breakfast meal and had no complaints. The food and service were good and timely. Would go back again.
I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years, but always thought this was a tourist joint. Finally went to check it out with some friends, and we really enjoyed ourselves! Some locals, some tourists. Had exceptional and friendly service, and our table was ready right at our reservation time!
We were offered a booth which was nice of them. We ordered a couple of their entrees, the blackened salmon and the po-boy, as well as a couple of beers and a cocktail. Food was really good, the salmon exceeded my expectations. Service was good, despite it being a busy Friday night. There were some loud patrons nearby spoiling the atmosphere but I cannot fault either the food or the staff. The best thing is the beer and cocktail list, something for everyone. I would also recommend their fish & chips.
Server was awesome, kept our drinks full and was super friendly—as was the host! Great ambience
