At Barshu we want to bring you the best of the authentic flavours of Sichuan. So look out, among others, for the seductive 'fish-fragrant'combination of pickled chilies, ginger, garlic and spring onion, the addictive fieriness of 'numbing-and-hot' flavored dishes, and the refreshing tones of a 'ginger-juice'sauce.
We hope you enjoy your food.
In a area full of dozens of Chinese restaurants Bar Shu stands out. Well worth a visit for a really good and tasty Chinese.
We have recommended it to friends and no one has been disappointed.
Great food and service. One of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in London
I love Barshu because I really enjoy a place which makes me sweat with the delightful one-two punch of numbing Szechuan pepper and powerful chillies. Service is average, it is expensive, but that kind of goes with the quality and the area...
Poor service, too salty food
Food ok but I lived in hk and China so for me food was average and for London taste maybe.
It might not be the fanciest of places, and not necessarily a place you’d bring someone you’d like to impress (unless it is with your badass skills in picking out great Sichuan food!), but it delivers where it needs to. Service is friendly (if a little shambolic at times), and the food is just perfect if you’re looking for the real Sichuan down-home eating. The mapo tofu is nigh perfect, the vegetables are cooked with real skill, and it brings the numbing heat just like it should. Really enjoyed my meal here.
I rarely write reviews but the food here was awful. 'Beef' looked like it had been made from offal. Chicken was tasteless and fatty. Waste of money. Very disappointing. Would never ever return.
Excellent food and even better service. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I accidentally ordered something that was a bit too spicy. They saw my suffering (sweating) and offered to switch it out. I politely denied (it had four Chili’s on the menu - clearly my fault) and they insisted on taking it off my bill. The food was very flavorful and came out piping hot. Highly recommend the fried rice and dry fried green beans. The stir-fried chicken with peanuts paired perfectly with the rice. FYI, the super hot dish was the Thin Sliced Beef. Very tasty though! Restaurant ambiance was really nice. Good date spot - not too loud. All around great dinner!
It's probably the best Sichuanese restaurant in London. Atmosphere is fine and even a bit stylish on the ground floor. Reasonably priced. Not cheap but not expensive. The food is fantastic.
Bad service, got the check rushed, food was not spicy at all
Delicious. Sechuan specialities particularly delicious. Meat ball and spring rolls too - and usually find spring rolls dull. Not here though. Excellent service too
Excellent food and prompt service. Good value too. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
The place is nice and different to the usual buzzing and cramped Chinese restaurants.
Delicious food! Sooo tasty and can be very spicy depending on the dish.
Surprised that I was able to book quite last minute for 6 people on a saturday evening. I came with friends who were visiting for the first time London and they loved it.
The food was by far not the best Chinese food
Best Chinese-Szechuan dining I know of, as the waiter lad said, it's addictive. An excellent restaurant.
Great service, food. Atmosphere lacked a little as we sat upstairs with only one other set of diners and no background noise!
We have been at Barshu's several times on our visits to London.
This time however we here disappointed: although this is a spicy quisine we found the taste without much character.
Great, spicy szechuan food with slight;y unconventional service
This was my first visit here after a recommendation from a colleague for a date and I couldn't fault it. The food was excellent and the helpful service with the menu from our female waitress was even better. I'm looking forward to going back to Barshu very soon. Thanks,
I come here every time I go to London. Those pepper and vinegar potato slivers! Plenty of veggie options, too.
Disappointed restaurant - the food is B A D !!! oily , too hot (spicy) - not tasty !!!
As usual outstanding authentic food - prepare to have your taste buds go on a roller coaster ride of delight.
Food was not as spicy as I thought it would be but still delicious.
This is a very superior Chinese restaurant specialising in food from Szechuan province. Excellent dishes, really tasty. Maybe next time I will try something spicier!
I remember Barshu as a good Chinese restaurant worth a visit years back. It is no longer worth a visit for good Chinese food. I have eaten Chinese and Asian food around the world for many years. At Barchu for instance, the meat in the gong bao Chicken had no taste other than the light source put on it. The other dishes has the same problem with the meat.
Nice restaurant in Chinatown./Soho. Grabbed a bite pre-theater and wait staff was very accommodating. Good food, generous portions, good cocktails. A bit more upscale than the many restaurants around.
Delicious and spicy food including classics like mapo tofu. Especially love the dan dan noodles.
Unique and delicious
Great restaurant, been going for years and will continue in the future.
Definitely recommend it if you like spicy Chinese as close to as authentic as it can be being out of China.
I ordered Dan Dan Mian to see how it would be in one of the higher rated Sichuan restaurants in the city.
The food was edible, though nothing like the dandanmian I've made myself, or eaten in other restaurants. Very little 花椒 / sichuan peppercorn could be felt in the dish. No 榨菜 could be seen, nor tasted. Nor was a replacement vegetable used.
Service was prompt, but far from nice.
The presentation of the food was below average and looked extremely "thrown together". On finding this out I elected to make this my only dish to be purchased during my visit. This made the staff even more grumpy.
I'll stick to Lins Restaurant & Bar in Southwalk. It's great every time.
Great Szechuan cooking. Spicy and tasty, eating with a 13 and 10 year old. Staff really helpful and provided some good tips on what to watch out for! Really enjoyable experience.
The food was amazing. Will definitely come back for another perfect meal soon.
First time trying it and is our new go-to Szechuan restaurant.
This is one my favourite restaurants for Sichuan Chinese food in London! The food never disappoints and is always very authentic! Would recommend to anyone who loves proper Chinese!
The sweet & sour sea bass was terrific! Fast service, no frills. Big portions, decent casual style food quality, A little too pricey for the quality of the food.
Very fragrant food and nice staff! We will come back for more.
If you like hot spicy food, this is the place
Our first time at Bar Shu but we’ve often wanted to go. It’s quite small but in a good location with a very good menu. It helps that there’s photos of most dishes, particularly if you’re not familiar with the cuisine. Three dishes and rice was enough for us because the portions are quite big. All we had were really nice with just the right a amount of heat and spice. The house wine by the glass was just about OK. Service was fine and it’s not expensive for Soho. We’d go back.
