Barrio Star Ratings and Reviews
We came for restaurant week and had a great experience! We appreciated the pace of the meal- we were in a relaxed mood and really taking our time but the courses came out at appropriate times- no rushing through. I had a margarita flight which was awesome. Loved our date night!
We were seated about 30 minutes after our reservation time. We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer, but our food came out first. We didn't eat much of the chips and salsa but still had to pay for it. Overall it was an expensive dinner for not that great of service.
We decided to give Barrio Star one more try. The first time we ate there it was so delicious and the service was great - this was a couple of years ago. After that we had been back a couple more times with the last time having a horrrendous meal/service. I purchased a groupon and thought ok one more time. We were very happy - the service was great - the margarita flight was so yummy. My husband had the 3 taco plate and I had the pollo diablo. Both were great. It wasn't crowded so we think they've lost most of their clientele - but we will definitely be back hoping the meal/service stays spot on!
Our server was absolutely outstanding AND we found out it was her birthday at the end of the night. She gave us great recommendations of chile relleno for my boyfriend and I got the taco plate with the salmon, steak and spicy chicken options. We loved both and she was so kind! I wish I could remember her name... but her birthday is August 30! :)
Tried this on a whim because Open Table offered it up as a suggestion. Overall, it was pretty great. A couple little quirks keep it from a five-star experience (i.e. Undercooked rice in the side dish and an uninspiring tortilla soup), but everything else was great. Chips and salsa were just different enough from traditional to be notable. My husband had a carnitas torta and I had fish tacos, both of which were excellent. And even with undercooked rice, the flavor on the rice and beans side dish was great. The blood orange margarita was yummy. Service was spot on.
Had a friend in town and wanted to find something unique. Found this restaurant on OpenTable and never heard of it before but it seem to have great reviews. Amazing dinner. The customer service was awesome. They treated us like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was good and I would highly recommend it. We will definitely be going back again in the future
We love going to Barrio Star. It is a regular spot for us. This time, however, it wasn't as fantastic. Service was quite, quite slow, even though the restaurant wasn't really full.
I ordered the chile relleno. I appreciate a chef's twist on ethnic cuisine, but did not like this at all. A chile relleno should be filled with cheese , maybe with a bit of meat, lightly battered with beaten egg whites, pan fried and served with a nice sauce. This version was a plain chile poblano with some cheese and a huge glop of carnitas on top.
I have always enjoyed the tacos. Will go back to ordering those. My husband loves the torta and tortilla soup. The queso fundido was tasty, but should really be served with tortillas, not chips.
Barrio Star is a family favorite for us. We will continue to go. I just didn't enjoy this visit as much as usual.
Overall our experience was great. Our server, Paolo, was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. This place, however, can get pretty loud when fully occupied. So it wouldn't be a great place to have a relaxed conversation. Despite that, I would still recommend this place.
Service, food, and fun atmosphere!! Barrio Star has all of the three ingredients for a great restaurant! At first glance, you might get the feel of a hole in the wall to pass up. I'll say, we didn't want to eat inside because it rather dark and it has a smell to it. REALLY needs some scrubbing and brightening up inside!
Once you are greeted by one of their staff, you are in for a treat! They can't do enough for you fast enough.
The menu has variety and the staff knows every item on the menu. My husband said the tacos were the BEST he's ever had! He had the salmon and spicy chicken. I had the beef and spicy chicken. Great flavor! The rice and beans were unique and excellent!
Eat outside and enjoy the passersby and a pleasant neighborhood with little art galleries and boutiques.
Went for Cinco de Mayo, so it was packed. Our server was great even though she was super busy. The place was very loud but it was packed. Get the queso fundito!!! It is amazing. I also got the tamal de pollo which was tasty. I really like this place. Good Marys, too.
A few friends and I came to Barrio Star for the Dine Out For Life event. The atmosphere was great! Lots of energy, friendly staff and the food was delicious! The combination made for an amazing evening. We definitely will be back! Thank you Barrio Star for participating in Dine Out For Life!
We were greeted with a smile and the server told us his favorites. The chips, salsa and guacamole was a great start. The margarita was good and the bloody mary was seasoned perfectly. I had the rosemary potatoes from the brunch menu and my friend had the steak tacos. The tacos were a bit small, like a street taco, but was filling due to the side dish of potatoes and rice. My potato and egg dish was very filling. The food was visually appealing, tasty and fresh. I will be going back to try other items. There is something on the menu for everyone - vegetarians and those with gluten sensitivities.
