About Barrio - Capitol Hill
Barrio is a restaurant that combines Mexican cuisine with innovative craft cocktails in an energetic urban environment.
Our menu takes a modern approach to Mexican Cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients. To deliver the highest possible quality, we make most of our ingredients on-site, from our fresh tomato salsas to our handmade tortillas to our slow-smoked pork.
Our cocktail and spirits program has been recognized as one of the strongest in the Puget Sound. In addition, we offer an excellent selection of beer and an array of wines (both by the glass and bottle).

Barrio - Capitol Hill Ratings and Reviews
Had 6:45 reservation so we got there at 6:40. The host said we would have to wait 10 minutes for a table. We were not seated until after 7:00 (20 minutes later). Once seated, we were not greeted or served for another 10-15 minutes. Great food but poor service.
Barrio is an excellent choice if you're looking for amazing drinks and probably the best nachos in capitol hill. The lighting is superb, with the entire space being lit by wall candles and low light from above. The general architecture is cozy yet surprisingly spacious and the crown piece of the room is most certainly the cracked marble countertops that adorn the bar, which is further accentuated by a rather large collection of both traditional and more contemporary modern tequilas. A 2 person dinner with drinks should run around 50-60 dollars, making it an excellent choice for either a first date or a just another night out on the town. If you skip this stop in Seattle, you will be sorely missing out.
We went for lunch on Halloween and had the place to ourselves. The food was delicious and abundant. We were very pleased - and the view of fun costumes strolling by were a highlight. The service was a little lackluster. It would seem that our server was in a hurry to be somewhere or just not excited that we weren't hipsters? You would think that he would take a little time (since he only had us to take care of) to talk about the menu, the restaurant, how our day was...it was Halloween, plenty to talk about! That was the only downer.
The food was delicious and our server was friendly. I was a bit disappointed however with the brunch menu as my friend and I chose two different entrees to only find out they were out of both items. Also we had come for Restaraunt Week and were told they did not offer that on the weekend. Overall though we did enjoy our loaded steak nachos and ambiance. Definitely will be back!
I thoroughly enjoyed my brunch visit. The impressive large wooden door opened into warm-feeling interior with lots of natural light from large windows. The ambiance was cozy - we were in the back with a nice hearth motif. Our drinks were well made and tasty (Blood Orange Margarita and Vampiro). The food was excellent - the chicken chilaquiles were flavorful with the right amount of spice and crunch, and the pancakes and carnitas was a delicious combo and a very generous portion. The service was fast and the staff were friendly and efficient. I absolutely will make a return visit to try more of the menu.
Reserved a table for 5 for a business meeting which ended up meeting earlier than expected, but the host quickly put together a table for us. I thought it took a little time to have our orders taken at first, but our drinks and food flew out of the kitchen. Our appetizers were ok, the grilled shishito peppers we're a hit at the table, but the crispy cauliflower was pretty bland and not very crispy. Everyone at the table raved about their drinks, especially the blood orange margarita.
Our entrees were even better though. We all ordered a variety of tacos, which I'd recommend for any other first-timer. I had the braised lamb and the prawn tacos with a side of vegetarian beans, all of which were fantastic. The lamb taco was piled with the most tender, flavorful lamb I've ever had. My partner and I now have a new favorite place for date night.
Our server was very quick in getting us drinks and our order taken, however not overly friendly or interested in talking. The food came fast and was delicious... my boyfriend grew up with authentic Mexican food and he was pleased with the quality of his carnitas. However they did not bother to ask us about desert, which was disappointing.
This was our first visit. Making a reservation was easy online. We found street parking right in front of the restaurant. We were seated quickly. The ambience and decor was great. Loved all the candles. Our server was friendly and attentive. We arrived during happy hour which was a nice surprise. You don't have to sit at the bar to enjoy the happy hour menu. We ordered appetizers and they came out super fast. The grilled corn was amazing! We loved all the food we sampled. The only thing I found odd was the food items are all ala carte. To pay $6 for a taco and only get one taco and nothing else was a bit expensive. I don't think I'll come here on a regular basis because of the cost.
Hadn't been here in over a year. The last time I was here the drinks were spectacular but the food was meh--last time I went with the tacos and I felt they were not very inspired. This visit we went for a couple of the house specials and they were fabulous. Drinks were outstanding and they pay a lot of attention to detail with fancy glasses, large ice cubes and proper garnish. Where you sit is important, they have some very nice booths but a couple of the tables are right in the middle of the restaurant so you have servers passing you on both sides. Lots of activity at 6pm, this is definitely a local hotspot.
I went in for lunch with clients, and food was amazing! Wait staff was friendly and helpful. I even appreciated the gentleman who sat us down and noticed the table was not level and he quickly put a wedge under to stabilize it without me asking. Superb. The only negative I had was the music was louder than I would have liked since I was entertaining clients, but overall, great place.
First, the GOOD: The food here is always amazing. Always. They also change up the menu so there is usually something new and creative to try, but the appetizer nachos are a MUST. Seriously THE BEST nachos you will ever have. You will see why when you order them. This visit I loved trying the goat cheese empanadas with beet pico de gallo. So balanced in flavor and texture, not at all greasy, and incredibly delicious. I hope they keep it on the menu. As for ambiance, I appreciate that they now have screens to shade out the full sun that beats down on the open front side of the restaurant. Sun still manages to get in between the individual shades, so you still need to bring your sunglasses (yes, to wear INSIDE the restaurant), but it's not as bad as it used to be. Now, the NOT-SO-GOOD: While the food is stellar, I have not enjoyed any cocktail I've ever ordered here. Since it is a Mexican restaurant, I was shocked that they served my margarita in a half glass. What? It was nothing special and still cost $11. This time I ordered a strawberry basil margarita in a coconut for $3 more, and it was so thick with strawberry syrup and not a taste of basil. I really should have sent it back. Another time I ordered a cocktail with I think orange soda but did not like the addition of tamarind. That may have just been a matter of preference in flavor, but in any case, I've learned my lesson: Pre-dinner cocktails somewhere else, then dinner at Barrio.
Barrio lives up to its reputation. We arrived 10 mins past our reservation time and were courteously shown to a nice spot. The table was removed from the crowd but not too much so we still felt like we were in the hustle and bustle of the place. The food was spot on and the music just right. The non-alcoholic beverages we ordered were a pleasant surprise. I would definitely revisit!!
