Everything was great except the food could have been a bit better. Some of us thought the food was a little too salty. One of us had the hen and thought it was super boney. But the cocktails were fantastic!! I would definitely come back for the drinks and the appetizers, hands down. The atmosphere was great and the server was so helpful and delightful!
Went here because it was listed as quiet conversation. If you are the only people there sure you can have quiet conversation, but there were very loud people all around us and the noise carried badly - fun bartender and wait staff though
Very cool, small little place. Food is absolutely delicious - the entire party loved their meals. Vibe was laid back, servers had beautiful accents and while it was pretty noisy we could still have a nice candlelit conversation.
You can't beat the drinks and appetizers. We sampled several of each and they were all frrsh and flavorful. Had the salmon and pasta dishes for our meal which were modestly sized but just as delicious. Ordered the pineapple cocktail for 2 for dessert and shared it between 3 people. Won't change anything. Great ambience and lively to appropriately crowd on a Friday night.
We were a group of +15 women celebrating a friend. We had booked last minute for such a large group and the owner was especially accommodating. He proposed a set menu which was delicious and varied. I had the tagliatelle ad they were amazing. Although we had not paid for any deserts he surprised us with excellent churros and to top it off shooters for the group. The food was high quality, the service outstanding and the atmosphere top notch. We will be back.
People there were very nice, but it was unbelievably noisy on a Friday night. I chose the place only because it was tagged quiet on Open Table, but that was dead wrong--
Loved the menu for Valentines Day, would definitely come back to try regular one. Nice wine list.
We went here for Valentine's Day. The food was great, the server (I think he was also the manager?) was very attentive and friendly. The Valentine's Day menu was well thought out and perfect for the holiday. I've never been here except for V-Day, but while we were there the ambiance was quiet enough to talk but loud enough to not be overheard, which is a plus in my book.
Honestly the only suggestion I have is to get stools for the high-tops that have backs on them, but this is just a personal preference because I have a spinal cord disability and my back was hurting by the end of dinner. But I have no real complaints. We had a really good time.
They used to have the most delicious and juicy beef skewers and that was the reason I was going there, they were incredible. Now they removed it from the menu! I am super curious to know why.
Friendly staff, good food, and great wine.
It was my first time there and it was nothing fancy or impressive, just normal.
The food menu doesn't have many varieties, and the food was just okay to me. I think it's good for friends gathering or happy hour.
One of my favorite places to go for dinner with friends!!
Barrio 47 is a really cute, convenient spot in the west village. Had a really good ambience with plates my friends and I shared.
Went for New Years Eve and the food was decent but extremely overpriced for the value.
Just don't sit towards the back of the restaurant...very breezy!
Table was over 1 hour late!!!
On a rainy day back from Miami with absolutely no idea where I wanted to chow down in a city with nothing but options, I opted to finally test it out. After all, what was the worst that could go wrong? Let's just say, a month later and I have already frequented it about 4 times. I suppose it was love at first sight. It is all about consistency! Every time is just like the initial spark of going the very first time.
The menu is not vast, but they don't need it. In the Barrio they are very unpretentious, and what they do have, they make exceptionally. The food is without a doubt, one of the bigger reasons that I completely fell for this place, but the super-skilled bartenders who make some out-of-this-world cocktails are also a plus. However, what makes both myself and even friends and family who I have brought along to this little secret hole-in-the-wall stay, is the service, and my personal favorite waiter of all, Antoine. Great energy, laughs, and attentiveness is the secret. So I am sorry Barrio 47, you will have to keep me for life.
*** Shout-out to owner Alex Volland for making sure are visits are perfection!
What to Order:
* Grilled Salmon with Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Shaved Fennel Salad
* The Octopus with Quinoa Risotto
* Leg of Lamb
"The Raspado Mojito." This is definitely not your typical mojito. It is super colorful with a hint of passionfruit. I call this one a, "Happy-Ending."
The service was very charming and informative. Cocktails were interesting and tasty.
I did my research and I wanted to go somewhere different for Thanksgiving in New York City. I was attracted to Barrio 47 and called to make a reservation.
I was early, and asked when could I be seated. I could take a table or sit at the bar. I chose to make it easy and sat at the bar. I ordered a "Bramble Smith" initially. It was very delicious, but I wondered how much ice goes into a drink like that. During dinner, I ordered Sangria and I do wish I had ordered this for the first drink. No reflection on cost or taste; the Sangria was delicious.
My choices for Thanksgiving dinner here were quite traditional, and I was likely at an advantage being the first customer in for turkey. As appetizer, I ordered the braised short ribs, which were flawless, delicious and just the right temperature. A meal of these would be great.
I had their heritage turkey, stuffing and carmelized Brussels sprouts. Not adventurous, but a good comparison for what can be done. Everything was great: the turkey was moist, not
overcooked and becoming dry, the stuffing also moist and delicious with gravy and the Brussels sprouts exactly like I have cooked at home. Any chef could be proud.
For dessert, I choose their pumpkin pie, which was perfect for any homestyle meal.
Though Barrio 47 is French/Spanish in its style, I ordered something very traditional. The quality, service, taste were exceptional. I'd be prepared to order something else on their menu next time.
As I posted noise level was high where we were initially seated. The hosted was very accommodating and moved us to a quieter space. Service was excellent. Very attentive. Between the four of us the food ranked good to excellent.
I would return to Barrio 47 again.
It was just my friend and I -- we shared a 1/2 dozen oysters, the shishito peppers, the kale salad, and the mushroom flat bread (I don't eat meat...so we kept it vegetarian). All the food was great as was the service!! The restaurant is very small, worth getting a reservation when possible...but definitely still try for a walk in if you're in the hood!!
Very nice service both at the bar and at our dining table. We had a variety of appetizers to share as well as cocktails, which were exquisite. We always had service checking in with us, which was great. A must for oysters and cocktails.
Delicious and accommodating. Last minute group reservation and we had a great time, ate well. All good!
Amazing cocktails with so many fresh tapas and bites to share ! Great music and energy, definitely a bar you want to go back to.
Barrio has always been one of my fav in NYC. And I am so happy they brought back signature dishes they had in the past (especially the salmon, served with a lemon beurre sauce, delicious!). The cocktail list has also doubled, I tried the bramble smith, amazing! Definitely a great cocktail and food destination in the West V.
Great ambiance run by french waiters. Very good food and cocktails to die for.
Great atmosphere with a small but perfectly formed menu of sharing plates. Recommend the octopus!!!!!!
Would definitely recommend for a group event! We had an 18 person group dinner and did the prix fixe. Food was good, the drink orders came quickly, and overall the service was great.
Hot! No air conditioning and we were here for a work team dinner in early August. Not recommended
The last time I visited Barrio 47 (Feb '16) this place was much better. Now they've got giant TV screens inside which kill the ambiance (They could have had these up before, but they must not have been turned on because I never noticed them). It also seems like they've made some changes to the menu which makes it more expensive, i.e. with the fish taco order, you now only get 1 fish taco per order, before you used to get 3.
Great main dishes but a bit overpriced. My friend asked for lettuce on her burger and they said they didn't have any which was a bit strange. $1 Oysters were not so fresh. We didn't even finish them.
This was by far absolutely the worst dining experience I've had. I made my reservation for 15 people on Open Table and confirmed on the phone with Barrio for Friday June 24, 2016, 6 pm. Around 6:45 the hostess sheepishly came up to me and said that the next party would be arriving at 7:45 PM and claimed that she had already informed me when I spoke to her. There was no mention of the reservation being for only an hour and 45 minutes when I confirmed my reservation. No time limit was mentioned. Who in their right mind would agree to a 1 hour 45 minute reservation for a group of 15 friends?
The party was just getting warmed up around 7:30 and after several rounds of drinks and food, the waiter came up and informed me that they would not be serving us any more food or drinks since the other party was already there. I asked to speak with the manager and tried explaining the ridiculous situation they were putting me and my large group of friends in - asking us to leaver in the middle of a meal when we already had reservations. They insisted that would no longer serve us and we needed to leave. The owner came along after I insisted on being served and towed the same line. In the end, we just left to avoid making a scene.
This is a greedy owner with no concept of customer service. They booked 2 parties back to back without informing either that either party that they would be constantly hustled, pressured and rushed by the wait staff during the meal and be ordered to leave while they are still ordering.
The food was mediocre at best and the oysters were stale. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this restaurant.
Was a little smaller and a bit more cramped than what I expected. We went out with another couple for the first time and it was a little difficult to talk as the night went on. It was quiet when we got there on a Saturday shortly before 7:00, -and were able to take advantage of one round of drinks and $1 local oysters, which were exceptional, and the server was very nice and let us put in an extra order of the $1 oysters for happy hour even though it was past 7:00. The menu is a little limited but everything they do is good. Small plates and you have to work to make a meal out of them, but the cocktails were very good. Even with the drawbacks, we all enjoyed very much
Can't beat $1/oyster during happy hour. And $4 per taco. The portions can be a little bit bigger. After $175 bill, I was still hungry. Otherwise, service was great. Not too loud. And everything was very tasty!
Fantastic dinner! The staff is beyond kind and the cocktails very original. I'll keep this one in my go-back list.
This is a gem. The food is consistently delicious, even if they often change their menu items. The wait staff is friendly and the drinks very enjoyable. The noise level can be a little loud during peak hours but Barrio 47 is always a very nice experience.
I came back after having my birthday dinner 2 weeks ago. Staff didn't forget about me and the warm welcoming made me feel special, once again. They know how to treat their customers at Barrio 47. Thank you thank you!!!
Friendly staff in a beautiful small venue. Small plates are a good opportunity to try different items. Very good food and cocktails.
5 stars well deserved. Service was amazing. Guacamole and Tacos fresh.
AMAZING! We did their Suckling Pig feast last night, it was so delicious. We will come back and do it again!
