Barrel & Boar - Canal Winchester
After Golf sitting on the patio. A young lady playing a guitar & singing. She did a good job & we did tip her. I ordered ribs, they were dry & tough. My husband ordered wings & just said he wasn’t impressed. It was our third visit to this franchise. The 1st two visits to the one in Gahanna both of those times they did not have any ribs & had run out of a few other items on the menu it was before COVID & during COVID days. This visit was at Canal Winchester won’t
try Beer & Barrel again.
If I could give this place zero stars for service I would. We were really excited to try this place since moving to the area. We weren’t given waters to start. I had to ask a hostess just to get something to drink. Then the first time the waitress came up to the table she right away asked what we wanted to order. She seemed put off when we said we needed some more time. After ordering we didn’t see our server at all. Someone else brought out our food, and then we had to ask the host again for assistance when we needed our check. As someone who works in the service industry I was appalled at the service we were given. Will not be going back.
Great food, staff exhibited great personality. Very nice ice place overall.
This is a good place for a business lunch as it was quiet and the service was good.
Great food & excellent service. Nice patio & location. Lots of free public parking nearby.
Amazing first time experience! The food portions are perfect value for what you pay, we left feeling full and happy! The drinks and food are incredible and the staff is very friendly. We absolutely loved being seated on the patio!
Nice place, food OK, but poor service. 10-15 wait for water after being seated on a quiet Saturday night, c’mon bring your A game. If you have to order your fries al carte they should be great. I’d say the kitchen was slow, but it took another 15 minutes to get beer out. Seated outside which was nice, but when the busboy is pouring out the water while clearing the next table and misses and hits the chairs instead, future problem. Pointed this out to a waitress, saw the problem, didn’t clean it up. Only thing timely was the check. Patio seemed ignored, plenty of waitress though. Won’t be coming back. Won’t recommend.
We met friends for dinner at 5:30pm on a Friday. There was no one to welcome us when we approached the host station and no other staff acknowledged us. Once the host returned, we were seated quickly. Service was okay. Our server was kind, but not prompt with our drink order, though we were one of the only tables seated indoors. Appetizers were good. Drinks were well made, yet pricy. We tried the hush puppies and jalapeño bread. I would order those again. Server recommended ribs to my husband, I chose dry rub wings and a street taco. Our friends tried the Mac and cheese and baked potato. Ribs were tough and hopelessly attached to the bone. Manager kindly replaced the ribs with another entree of my husband’s choosing. His burnt ends were much better. My wings were okay, under seasoned, very little dry rub, but well cooked. The taco was also plain and just unremarkable. The baked potato entree, though impressive to look at, was undercooked. My other friend seemed to enjoy her Mac and Cheese entree. We were not made to feel rushed and enjoyed some conversation before ending our evening with dessert. Highly recommend trying dessert. Our peach bread pudding was delicious!
Overall, a nice place, comfortable ambiance, super convenient to get to and plenty of parking. We chose to sit indoors, but they offer a wonderful patio as well. Customer service from the manager was sincere and our one issue was resolved quickly and without question. The menu is great, even updated from previous visits, and the food presentation was great, yet a good portion of our order was just “okay” when it came to taste. We may visit again and check out other items on their menu... or just order apps and dessert!
Great experience. Wait staff was very nice. Will definitely go back
Our waitress, Stacey, was amazing! She was attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to serve us. The food and drinks were amazing. We got the sausage gravy and biscuits, the brunch hash, and over course - bloody mary's. Everything was perfection! We will definitely be back.
Impeccable service to go with great tasting food! I’ll see you again, very soon!
Great service! love the patio!
Got sick after eating a cold rib. Sweet potato fries were awful and cold.
Our server, Maddie, was very attentive. Thanks!!
When we arrived we were told they weren’t taking or honoring reservations which we had. After waiting for a table, we were seated by the manager who dropped the menus and walked away. It took more then 10 minutes for someone to greet us. When the server arrived she said, “Are you all ready to order?” The food came out timely, however my Brussel sprouts were so hard to chew I didn’t eat them. I honesty couldn’t chew them. My son ordered the kids pulled pork and it was so dry he couldn’t eat it and I tried and couldn’t either. We are locals and have continued to return in hopes things would finally fall into place, but sad to say they still haven’t.
The music was too loud and the food/drinks were expensive. We had good service and enjoyed our dinner but we aren't planning a second visit.
Everything was great restaurant was nice food was great service was good. One small problem we reserved patio seating when we got to the restaurant we were informed that they did not have us down for patio I don’t know if the restaurant or opentable is to blame, if we could have sat outside this no doubt would have been a home run so whom ever made the blunder make it right
As a side note we took care of our server she got a 85% tip if you can you should do the same.
Very good! I love the hush puppies. They remind me of my favorite place in South Carolina.
We were a bit disappointed in some of the menu changes—no more platter options, no more fried okra, no more peanut butter and jelly option for the kids menu.
Food was very good and the service was excellent.
Our first time here. Food and service was mediocre at best. The ambiance was nice. Definitely over priced, probably wouldn’t visit again.
Wanted to order pulled pork and the burnt ends but they were out. Ordered ribs instead and although the flavor was good, the ribs were extremely fatty.
We were seated near the kitchen and heard profanity coming from the kitchen. A waitress also heard it and went into the kitchen to let them know that patrons could hear them.
They were out of Ribs and Steak , we ended up just going to Texas Roadhouse they had both.
We were seated right away with great service. The food was delicious and big portions.
Had reservation but still had to wait 45 minutes. Our waitress was busy socializing with fellow employees rather then bring out all our food. We had to wait 20 minutes for our check. When she finally brought it over my husband had to wave her down 15 minutes later so we could pay and leave. By then the restaurant was not even busy. One of the forks still had food on it. Asked for new silver wear, it never came out. Had to share a fork with my husband which is completely unacceptable. This is the second time we had her as a waitress not pleased. The other waitresses we have had there were always attentive. Our favorite is Bridget. Just disappointed also all the other women received a carnation for Mother’s Day. I did not. Not sure why.
I ordered their brisket. It was very fatty. The garden salad was not a typical garden salad and I didn't care for the orange vinaigrette. The only thing I enjoyed was the mac and cheese. Their wine (white Zinfandel) tasted like juice.
We loved it! The food was amazing, and loved the custom craft colas, we will definitely be back with even more friends!
Great food and great service! Perfect place for a casual dinner
My wife and I both enjoyed our experience. Service was good and food came quickly. We thought the food was great.
Dawn is an excellent service professional; lots of personality and very conscientious! NO Jelly!!!!!!!!!
A really cool restaurant...certainly a hidden gem and the best of the three B&Bs that we've eaten at. We went two weekends in a row! The service from Jordan was awesome...we will always try to get her. Then there's the food...OMG...THE FOOD! The salad greens feel like they were just picked...the orange balsamic dressing is yummy. We had burgers, crab cakes, burnt ends, fish n chips, rib eye, and sides which were served in small ball jars...everything was delicious! The loaded potato soup is a meal...it's soooooo filling! I could go on forever. I love this place!
Great food as always and for Columbus' Restaurant Week, Barrel & Boar of Canal Winchester to it to the next level with their special menu of plated entrees and sides with special desserts. Servers and owner/manager are very friendly and pitch in for each other to provide exceptional service. You almost feel like you are at their home by the warm reception they give! Excellent smoked meats, desserts and cocktails. Love the collard greens-- just like my Southern friend makes! Many of the meats come with a house dry rub and then you can eat as is or select one of four sauces-- all delicious.
Excellent Food and Very Nice Server with Excellent Atmosphere!!!
Great food and service, great vibes inside as well!
Good food, but had a dirty wine glass with lipstick on it that was not mine. Informed the waitress and they did nothing about it. Other then that it was a good experience.
I have already referred one friend to this place. Food is a subjective thing, and I rarely give 5 stars across the board, but for me this place tick's all the boxes. I will be back. the food was delicious, they had a varied beer selection, and the service was prompt. What else is there?
Service was poor, food was just okay, felt like we were being rushed out:((
The shrimp and grits was excellent. I usually don't trust grits made by Yankees, but the Boar and Barrel were exactly the right combo of creamy, salty, and salty with little chunks of tasso (?) ham.
My husband had The Big Pig. He ate half and we took the other half home to make hash for breakfast the next day.
This is a good alternative to the corporate mega-chains or the other restaurants that think tomato based sauce defines barbecue.
Was a perfect, friendly spot for a christmas eve dinner. Real good food. Wasn't there long enough to take in much more, but we found it a terrific find.
Birthday for my husband.
Staff was friendly and the food was great! I’ll definitely & already have recommended it to friends.
