Barrel & Ashes
Guests can enjoy chef driven traditional American BBQ at Barrel & Ashes seven days a week. The restaurant’s bar program includes a tap driven program with specialty cocktails, cold brew, teas and an eclectic list of local beers, all on tap. The restaurant occupies the former Spark Woodfire Grill space and has been stripped back to its original 1940’s structure and creatively designed to bring family style southern hospitality to Studio City.
What Insiders Are Saying
The great, lively BBQ joint that the Valley desperately needed.
Awesome food & service! Always a pleasure to come to this spot!
Good cocktails. Good basic bbq food, delicious. We all enjoyed the food, even our kids. The only disappointment was the ribs. They seemed tough over cooked, definitely not juicy. I’m sure it varies depending on cook that day. I would definitely go back!
One of the best barbecues in LA
This is one of our go to places, the brisket is to die for. Usually the service is great super attentive etc. but this time it was a bit off, but we'll still go back! It's a noisy place but very lively and everyone is having a great time. We also love their special cocktails and love to sit at the counter and watch what's going on in the kitchen. Still one of our favorites!
Everything was perfect for our small gathering. We will happily return as soon as possible!
I think we caught this restaurant on an off night. We have eaten there before and the food was better - the ribs were overcooked and the brisket dry. The sides and appetizers were better than the main course. The beer and whiskey selection, however, is great.
Menu item we chose online was not available on site. Fryer wasn't working so other choices also not available. Our server was terrific and kept a positive attitude to try and please us.
Basically go there is you like BBQ. The food was good and the Hoe Cake (cornbread) was amazing. As for ambience or vibe, try another place. it's just a cool, little BBQ place. Drinks were average. My biggest complaint was the service. Despite there only being 2-3 tables being served when we were sat, it took almost 15 minutes for our drinks to make it to the table. The food literally came 5 minutes later so we did not get the chance to chill and talk and drink before the meal was served.
Outstanding food and service
It’s been a while, but we were glad to be back at Barrel & Ashes. Everyone was so nice and attentive from the front staff to the chef. We ate @ the Chef Bar and enjoyed watching the magic of great BBQ and sides. The food is great, cocktails inventive and employees happy & competent.
Not the place for strict dieters, but the menu has good salads and sides in addition to amazing BBQ meats. I like the sample BBQ for 4. Great price for a group.
Service was great, as it's been our previous 2 or 3 visits. This time, we weren't so jazzed on the food as previous times. The collard greens are overly sweetened, the kale salad overly dressed, and the rib tips were very fatty. The chicken sandwich was awesome as usual, as was the brisket. For the cost, we're gonna not go back for a while.
Hi, I liked everything about this restaurant but the temperature. We moved to a table away from the front door because of the breeze but it was just as cold in the corner. The hostess wasn't too pleased with our request and didn't offer to bump up the heat.
Fried pickles are tasty. Tips appetizer is hard to chew... a touch less firing might be more diner-friendly.
Great food & upbeat atmosphere. Smaller than I expected but cozy & it looked like the tables were turned quickly to accommodate people coming in. I’d recommend reservations if you definitely wan in. We booked with reservations. There was no problem gettin is in at the time we requested. Kid friendly & good menu even though there is no kid menu. My kids are teens & are Mac & cheese & pulled pork. We would go back for sure!
This was our first time to Barrel and Ashes. The only negative for the entire experience was that the music was pretty loud making it difficult to sometimes be able to hear.
Everything else was PERFECT! The service was great. When our server was busy, another server would check on us. The food was some of the best BBQ that I've ever had. The brisket was able to be cut with a fork! The chicken was also delicious with simply a dry rub of salt and pepper. And so on with the brussel sprouts, mac and cheese and slaw.
As I said, this was our first time, but definitely not the last.
We had a reservation but shuffled off to an upstairs bar area and told the service would be the same. It was basically just a bar. When ordering from the bartender he said you can't order from the main menu. He seemed very inconvenienced. The food was good but not easy to enjoy when you don't feel welcome.
We really wanted to like this place. The restaurant was cute, the ambiance was perfect for a hip BBQ place and the service was good. Unfortunately, the food was not good. The Hoe pie was incredibly greasy and runny, the Kettle Beans were ridiculously sweet, the BBQ sauce had a horrible after taste and the mimosas were NOT mimosas because they had a weird sweetness that was not from orange juice. I'm pretty sure they were NOT using champagne but some sort of sweet sparkling wine. Not one of the three of us enjoyed the food.
Great brunch, stay away from coffee, order alcohol instead
The brisket and hoe cake is to die for!!! Everything else is pretty wonderful as well!
Great barbecue place! Tasty food, great quality meats, fun cocktails. Would recommend.
I've been to Barrel & Ashes several times. It is consistently good. The staff is friendly & attentive. It's fun to get a bunch of menu items and share them. Recommend: the brisket, pulled pork, mac & cheese, brussels sprouts.
Always have wonderful time there. Food was amazing so are the drinks. Never disappointed.
Outstanding friendly and delicious experience as always
We called the Restruant to been at table and they told us they didn’t have anything available at our time request. We went on open table and booked.
Had to wait on busy Ventura blvd as the valet parking was backed up!
Our food arrived cold so we had to send back two dishes and overall all the meats were really grease!
Not a great experience!
Their food is consistently delicious. Favs are pulled pork, Frito pie, hoe cake, and kale salad.
The food and drinks were great! Fun environment to have BBQ and some drinks with some friends. Will be back.
We were recommended by some friends. Best first meal in LA ever! The ribs and beef we ate were amazingly good
Amazing customer service.
Chicken was too salty the staff responded positively by giving a credit on the Chicken the Ribs were also too salty but we ate the ribs because we wanted ribs
Great food. Not great Mac n cheese. But, give it a shot. Just not to my liking. I will say the staff is great and the biscuits are very good. I would definitely return.
Very nice neighborhood barbecue joint. Super friendly service and atmosphere. Food is a little more sophisticated than run-of-the-mill barbecue and consequently a little pricier, but overall decent value. We'd go again. Brussel sprouts and fries were excellent.
Great food.
Amazing food!
Try food was delicious and they let us linger for a Saturday lunch.
Great service and meat-centric bbq!
Awesome BBQ in the valley. The HO cakes are a must! Everything was Delish!
Hi, the quality vs the cost of the food is very poor. The food was served cold and out of order.
The meat trio was served cold and extremely greasy and plated so terrible (like a stop kitchen plated it) it was ugly unattractive that it was one giant mess of a plate. Who puts pickles in with the meats? Ugh. Sent it to the kitchen to be reheated and it returned even more greasy and sloppy. Pickles wilted and totally swimming in grease. disgusting. The pulled pork tasted old and reheated several times. The brisket had large veins of fat and gristle.. the ribs weren’t bad but they lacked in appeal. Maybe it’s because it was all slipped in together garbage style? I dunno but this was a giant waste of $100 dinner!
The sides (which I could not substitute) was the greens and the beans. Beans were hot and Ok. The greens were sweet and weird. A laurel or bay leaf almost choked me. Did anyone consider removing it? Ugh.
I don’t know what eclectic type of nonsense they are trying to achieve here but it is not working!!
Gross on a level I’ve never seen before. I’ve eaten here in the past and it’s no where near the same... not happy not satisfied
Busy and loud, with tiny tables or communal tables. After being seated outside, I had to go inside to tell someone to send a waiter, after waiting 10 minutes. Baby back ribs were delicious! Brisket was unsauced and not great quality meat. Mac and cheese was rotini pasta and not rich and creamy. I'm from Chicago and know authentic barbque. . .this is LA barbque--trying hard to be tasty and authentic--OK not great.
Love the food and drinks at Barrell and Ashes! The meat is fantastic, and the barrell burger is one of my favorite burgers out there! I chose this place for my birthday dinner!
Chicken wings taste like ruber, mac and cheese taste like chalk. Potato salad had no flavor
